shutdown
This is the process of stopping the Solaris operating system.
It starts from the command line and should finish at the ok
prompt. There are three shut-down commands: halt,
shutdown, and init. The halt command should be avoided
because it could corrupt data. The shutdown command
offers the most features and is the preferred shutdown
command. The init command is faster than the shutdown
command but lacks the valuable features of the shutdown
command. The init command does not inform all users the
system is going down nor does it allow a delay before the
process starts.
