TCDSB Celebrates Student Success As Graduation Rates Continue to Climb
For the first time this spring, the Ministry of Education has published individual school board graduation
rates on their website. The Toronto Catholic District School Board is pleased to report that according to
Ministry data, 86% of the board’s 2009-2010 grade 9 cohort graduated within five years of starting
secondary school. That is above the provincial average of 84%.
“Our continued focus on student achievement and well-being is evident in the consistent growth in grade
9 and 10 credit accumulation and the rising graduation rates,” says Angela Gauthier, Director of
Education. “This steady improvement speaks volume to the commitment of our staff, and the support and
involvement of our parents.”
This ongoing improvement is due in large part to the Board’s commitment to differentiated instruction to
address the diverse learning needs of individual students, and differentiated supports offered to schools
on the basis of community need.
“TCDSB’s focus remains on excellence in education,” says TCDSB Chair Michael Del Grande. “We will
continue to explore opportunities and new strategies to support student success.”
