Welcome
I am delighted to welcome you to the 9th bi-annual conference of the Iberoamerican
Academy of Management (IAM). As a brief background, IAM was founded in 1997, it is
an affiliate of the Academy of Management, and it has two main goals. First, IAM fosters
the general advancement of knowledge in the theory and practice of management
among Iberoamerican scholars and/or those academics interested in Iberoamerican
issues. Second, IAM performs and supports educational activities that contribute
to intellectual and operational leadership in the field of management within an
Iberoamerican context. To clarify these two points, we define Iberoamerica broadly to
include all of Latin America, Spain/Portugal, and Latino populations in North America.
IAM currently has three major strategic goals: increasing growth, visibility, and
expansion. IAM’s Executive Committee, which includes 15 scholars from North
America, Europe, and Latin America, has launched several initiatives to support these
strategic goals. For example, we have a listserv called IBERO that includes more than
1,100 individuals from more than 20 countries. The listserv allows IAM members to
share information on job, research, teaching, and other types of opportunities (e.g.,
sabbaticals, visiting appointments, exchange programs, conferences). IAM also has
its own program of sessions at the annual Academy of Management meetings—don’t
miss the August 2016 meetings in Anaheim, California. In addition, IAM publishes its
own international journal, Management Research, which is dedicated to advancing
the understanding of management in private and public sector organizations
through empirical investigation and theoretical analysis and receptive to research
across a broad range of management topics such as human resource management,
organizational behavior, organization theory, and strategic management. Note that,
while not being regional in its nature, articles addressing Iberoamerican issues are
particularly welcome. Finally, IAM also organizes a bi-annual conference such as this
one in Santiago, and the next one will be in New Orleans, USA, on December 7-9, 2017.

member-driven organization. Thus, I look forward to speaking with you and hearing
about any ideas and feedback you may have on how we can improve what we do and
how you would like to become involved with existing or new initiatives.

Amorós Espinosa for hosting this year’s conference in beautiful Santiago, Chile.

I want to give you our warmest welcome to Chile and Santiago. We at the School of
Business and Economics, Universidad del Desarrollo, UDD, are very honoured for the
opportunity to host the Ninth Iberoamerican Academy of Management 2015 Conference.
This year the conference has been developed under the main title: “The Future of
Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Iberoamerica” with the aim to facilitate dialog
amongst academics and practitioners regarding these relevant topics for the region.
We at the UDD, have a strong commitment around these topics and we believe that
entrepreneurship and innovation are, and will be, key elements for the further
development mainly in Latin America.
This year homologating the dynamics of our inspiring organization, the Academy of
Management, we have programmed 4 Professional Development Workshops, 2 special
sessions: a Research Methods Workshop and a Panel with Editors, 32 papers sessions
and a plenary panel with top scholars from the region.
Additional to the academic content, we have also prepared social activities, including a
welcome reception, a cultural-gala dinner in a beautiful place in the unique landscape
that the Andes Mountains give us, and a closing tour with cocktail at Indómita vineyard,
located in the famous Valley of Casa Blanca.
I want to express our gratitude to many people that makes possible this conference.
First the IAM Executive Committee, in special our current President Herman Aguinis
and Past –President Julio de Castro for all the support and trust in UDD. Special
thanks to Carolina Gómez and Santiago Ibarreche, members of our Executive
Committee for their great job setting-up and revamping the IAM systems. Obviously
we extend our gratitude to all the authorities and administrative team at UDD’s School

The Entrepreneurship Future Agenda
in Latin America
Friday, December 4th | 09.30-10.30 | Auditorium
In this panel we will have the presence of three experts from different perspectives,
making an assessment of how to develop more dynamic and innovative
entrepreneurship ecosystems. Julio de Castro will give the perspective of the relevance
of education and training in entrepreneurship and the role played by higher education
institutions. David Urbano will discuss, based on his research, how the institutional
context influences the entrepreneurship dynamics. Finally Hernán Cheyre will give
his vision from the public policy point of view of and from his experience in different
pro-entrepreneurship programs in Chile.
Julio de Castro
IE Business School, Madrid
Professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategy, IE Business School, Spain and he is also
the Director of the PhD program. He received a PhD in Business Administration,
University of South Carolina, USA, and a degree in Industrial Engineering, Universidad
Católica Madre y Maestra, Dominican Republic.
His contagious enthusiasm and wry sense of humor makes it easy to become interested
in what he has to say about strategy and entrepreneurship. As someone coming from
the Dominican Republic and who has been a consultant for companies, both in the US
and elsewhere, he has plenty of stories to tell when it comes to one of his main areas
of study - the way cultural variances have an impact on entrepreneurship in different
parts of the world.
Prof. de Castro’s work has appeared in top management and entrepreneurship
publications like Academy of Management, Journal of International Business Research,
the Journal of Business Venturing, and the Journal of Management Studies.
Plenary Session
David Urbano
Universitat Auònoma de Barcelona
Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Department of Business (Universitat
Autònoma de Barcelona -UAB-). He received a Ph.D. (European Doctoral Programme
in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, UAB and Växjö UniversitySweden), a M.Sc. in Social and Cultural Anthropology (UAB) and a B.A. in Economics
(UAB). He is particularly interested in the analysis of factors affecting entrepreneurship
in different contexts, using the institutional approach as a theoretical framework,
and combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies. He has published several
studies in international academic journals and he is participating in Spanish and
international research projects (GEM, PSED, GUESSS). Also, he has been visiting
scholar at international universities (The University of Manchester, University of
Surrey, ESADE-Business School, among others). He teaches entrepreneurship
courses at undergraduate, master and doctoral level at the UAB and at other
international universities. He is working as a consultant in entrepreneurship and
SMEs in many projects of the Catalan and Spanish government, European Union,
OCDE and the private sector. Also, he is co-founder and director of the CIEU (Centre
for University Entrepreneurship - UAB Emprèn).
Hernán Cheyre
Universidad del Desarrollo, Chile
Hernán Cheyre is Director of Entrepreneurship in the Business School of UDD
and also holds the position of President of the Institute for Social Innovation in the
same university. He was the founder and CEO of the consulting company Econsult
in Chile for 25 years until march 2010, when he was appointed as Executive Vicepresident (CEO) of CORFO, the Chilean national agency in charge of the promotion of
entrepreneurship and innovation. He has served in the board of several companies.
He is an economist graduated at the Catholic University of Chile and holds a Masters
degree in Economics at the University of Chicago.

Education
This workshop provides (a) introductory coverage of confirmatory latent variable
techniques, including confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation methods,
(b) discussion of special issues related to the application of these techniques in
organizational and psychological research, and (c) a comparison of these techniques
with traditional analytical approaches.

CARMA Director. Professor of Psychology University of North Dakota
Dr. Williams joined the faculty of the Psychology Department at the University of
North Dakota in the fall of 2014. Professor Williams established and currently serves
as Director of CARMA, an interdisciplinary consortium devoted to helping faculty and
students to advance their knowledge of organizational and social science research
methods and data analysis techniques.
What is CARMA?
Abstract:
PDW focuses on global innovation in Human Centered Management necessary to
foster continuous improvement and sustainability in Executive Education and develop
leaders who can meet the challenges of governance in all kind of organizations, across
cultures and worldwide in the “Internet Era”. PDW is based on a book that integrates
17 research studies and proposals developed by 32 scholars from developed and
developing countries in 4 Continents. The forward looking analyses show unique
assessments of the challenges and opportunities that Executive Education providers
need to address to meet demands of business organizations (from entrepreneurship
to corporations) and public sector institutions responsible for strengthening the
productive sector worldwide. The PDW facilitates interaction between presenters
and participants on the ongoing discussion of critical issues, pressing organizations
to advance from the process oriented Taylor’s Scientific Management to the Human
Centered Management HCM paradigm. PDW is intended to bridge research gap in
leadership training and Executive Education, that contrasts highly with increasing
global awareness that HCM is important at all organizational levels but it is critical at
the executive level. The PDW explains the rapid expansion of Executive Education
(EE) in the last decades, its globalization blueprint and addresses the challenges EE
providers face.
CARMA, the Consortium for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis,
is an interdisciplinary consortium devoted to helping faculty, graduate students and
professionals to learn of current developments in various areas of research methods
and statistics. Our focus in research methods is relevant to the management and
organizational sciences.

Women in Entrepreneurship: Need for Participation
and Innovation to foster Business Sustainability in
the Global Economy

Abstract:
Despite entrepreneurship has been an ancient trade in world history, its formal study,
pioneered by Schumpeter and Druckerer, is fairly recent. So there is still a great
deal to learn. And particularly about women’s participation in entrepreneurship and
economic activity, which has intensified drastically in the last decades with increasing
prospects to contribute to foster change and economic development at global scale.
A global research study conducted by McKinsey shows that women’s participation in
economic activity will be one of the key elements to foster productivity and growth
in the future. Based on this analysis and a surmounting need to information and
knowledge, the authors of this PDW are undertaking the challenge to assess the
past, present and future of women entrepreneurs and their prospect as agents for
positive change required to increase welfare for themselves and their families and
foster progress in their communities and in markets worldwide with a special focus
in Latin America.

Abstract:
Este workshop de desenvolvimento profissional (PDW) se propõe a discutir, a partir
de experiências de diferentes escolas de negócios, a formação de profissionais com
uma orientação para o empreendedorismo social. Este PDW tem como objetivo a
construção de um material que possa contribuir com a formação de empreendedores
sociais. Para tanto, identificaram-se cinco tópicos que demonstram como as escolas
de negócios têm trabalhado esse tema na formação de seus alunos. Cada tópico
constituirá um subgrupo de trabalho, que terá um facilitador, que deverá motivar
sua equipe para a construção de um material que será apresentado no dia do
workshop. Durante o workshop, cada facilitador apresentará o documento, com o
objetivo de obter subsídios do grupo maior. Essas ideias serão registradas pelos
outros membros do subgrupo para possível incorporação. Após as apresentações,
os grupos irão discutir seus papers e tomar decisões sobre a continuidade do seu
trabalho. Estas informações serão entregues ao líder do PDW que deverá fazer a
consolidação do trabalho final.

Legitimacy: Of Whom, For Whom, By Whom And
How?
Abstract:
This workshop is specifically designed for researchers and practitioners interested
in issues regarding legitimacy of individuals, organizations, industries, or activities.
We will explore in depth the practical, theoretical, and methodological challenges in
dealing with legitimacy. Using the specific context of a small number of widely covered
cases (e.g Douglas Thompkins, Chile, Petrobras, Brazil, or GM crops, Argentina), we
will discuss the fundamental aspects that contribute to a better understanding and
management of legitimacy.
We will start this workshop with the analysis of the present state of legitimacy of
the respective cases and then split up in groups to discuss different aspects of the
conditions and processes that encourage or inhibit legitimation. We then consolidate
the findings and review them through an expert panel led discussion that will lead
to developments in theoretical understanding, and guidelines for organization and
management practice. We will finish with the definition of an agenda for further
research.
The goal of this workshop is to provide a lively forum, where people and ideas from
separate but related fields, such as strategy, entrepreneurship, organizational
theory, or public administration, can meet to address the nature of legitimacy and
consolidate an international network with a well-structured research agenda.

Jonathan Doh is the Herbert G. Rammrath Endowed Chair in International Business,
founding Faculty Director of the Center for Global Leadership and Professor of
Management and Operations at the Villanova School of Business. He teaches and

corporate responsibility. Jonathan is author/co-author of more than 75 refereed
articles published in leading scholarly and practitioner journals, 35 chapters in edited

He is a reviewer for top journals (e.g. AMR, AMJ, JIBS) and publishers (e.g. Oxford
University Press, Prentice Hall, McGraw-Hill Irwin), and has served in more than
a dozen journal editorial review boards. He was Associate Editor of Academy of
Management Learning and Education (2008-2011) and Long Range Planning (20082011) Business & Society (2008-2014), Consulting Editor of Long Range Planning and
Senior Editor of Journal of World Business. In September of 2014, he was appointed
as the Editor- in-Chief of Journal of World Business, one of the leading international
management journals.

Herman Aguinis, Ph.D.
Herman Aguinis is the John F. Mee Chair of Management, Professor of Organizational
Behavior and Human Resources and Founder and Managing Director of the Institute
for Global Organizational Effectiveness at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana
University. In addition, he holds affiliated faculty status with Indiana University’s
Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and with the Institute for Business
Analytics. He is the actual President of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management.
He has written about 130 refereed journal articles, about 40 book chapters,
monographs in edited series and other publications. He currently serves as associate
editor of the Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior
and serves or has served in the editorial board of 23 journals including Journal of
Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of
International Business Studies, Academy of Management Perspectives and Academy
of Management Learning and Education.

Chile is one of the most well known wine producers in the world. Getting to know
how wine is produced here is one of the main attractions in the country. Join saturday
afternoon visit to Viña Indómita, which is located in the Casablanca Valley, 70 km
from Santiago and 40 km from Valparaíso, one of the most important export harbors
in Chile. At the top of a hill and surrounded by vineyards, Indómita is the only winery
located in this valley able to give a nonpareil view inserted in a mystical, classic and
modern atmosphere at the same time.

Taxis: There are many taxis in Santiago de Chile. They are recognisable by their yellow
and black colour scheme. Minimum fares start at approximately 300CLP. Although
some drivers might accept payment by credit card, not all of them do, so it is better

In summer time Santiago usually enjoys a warm temperate climate. The average
temperature is between 15-18°C in the morning and 28-30°C in the afternoon,
dropping to 18-20°C in the evening.

Santiago de Chile offers a wide variety of restaurants. Chileans usually have lunch
between 12.30 and 14.30 and dinner between 20.00 and 22.00.

Always keep your bags with you, especially in the city downtown. Santiago de Chile is

so it is always good to keep an eye out.

Management Research: The Journal of the Iberoamerican
Academy of Management (MRJIAM) is an international
journal dedicated to the advancement of management
in private and public sector organizations with an
Iberoamerican focus.
Iberoamerica is defined broadly to include all of Latin
America, Latino populations in North America, Spain and
Portugal. MRJIAM aims to improve the understanding of the
nature of management and what this means across different
contexts, countries and cultures with the overall objective of
providing an international dialogue between researchers.
Although MRJIAM considers itself a supranational journal, it is especially
dedicated to fostering the general advancement of management scholarship
among Iberoamerican scholars and academics interested in Iberoamerican issues.
