Introduction
Introduction
• Since 1996/7 the adoption of Benchmarking methods has been
developed for Wastewater services in Germany
• starting points were initiatives of corporations to get a management
tool for improvement by learning from other organisations. As a
result confidential „process benchmarking“ got highest priority
- to identify processes to be improved,
- to simplify participation for small organisations and
- to allow a broad overview with a lot of participants in a project
• comparison on organisations level („corporate benchmarking“) has
been added

• Today first steps were made on the level of river basins (according to
the realisation of WFD)
Introduction
• DWA and DVGW committed about „state of the art“
• The german associations ATT, BDEW, DBVW, DVGW, DWA and
VKU committed in a common statement on Benchmarking in the
water sector about
the way how to do benchmarking,
the objectives of benchmarking,
how to deal with benchmarking data and
how to report publicly (Profile of the german water industry)
