Pastor’s Note
Dear Parishioners,
Sacramental Information
Baptism
Two weeks ago we reflected on the Eucharist and we
have said that a “sacrificial” understanding of the
Eucharist is the heart of our Catholic teaching on the
Mass.
The Catechism clearly states that: “When the Church
celebrates the Eucharist, she commemorates Christ’s
Passover, and it is made present: the sacrifice Christ
offered once for all on the cross remains present”
(CCC n. 1364).
In a sense we can call the Eucharist the sacrifice of the
Church. What it means is that united with Christ himself,
we come to the Eucharist to be offered entirely to
the Father.
Our true Christian discipleship should not be understood
primarily as following after Christ or imitating him but
rather as being “in Christ”, being immersed into the
saving person and work of Christ himself. It is in the
liturgy, above all at our baptism (Rom 6: 1-11) and in
the Eucharist, that this is made possible.
If we listen attentively to the Eucharistic Prayers then we
will understand that they get to the heart of the meaning
of the Mass. In the Eucharistic Prayer 3 we ask that Christ
“make us an everlasting gift” to the Father, by uniting us to
his own gift of himself.
We become “a living sacrifice of praise” (Eucharistic
Prayer 4), united with Jesus himself in his own worship
of the Father.
I personally like the special Eucharistic Prayers for
Reconciliation and for Children because they give a neat
summary of why we should come to Mass:
Contact the Parish office to arrange for baptismal preparation. Baptisms are celebrated monthly except during Lent.
Spanish Prep Class: 1st Mon at 7 pm; Baptism: 3rd Sat at 10 am
English Prep Class: 2nd Mon at 7 pm; Baptism: 4th Sat at 10 am
Weddings
Arrangements need to be made at least six months in
advance. Call the Parish office.
Rosary
The Rosary is recited daily after the 8 am Mass and
before the 5:30 pm Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Hispanic Community has a Rosary Hour every
Monday at 6 pm in the Rectory Chapel.
and the cup that saves us.
Jesus brings us to you;
Welcome us as you welcome him”
By uniting ourselves with Christ in the Eucharist, as
Christ’s Body, we are taken up “through him, with him,
and in him” into the heart of the Father: we go where
Jesus goes and we ask the Father to “accept us
together with your beloved Son” (Eucharistic Prayer for
Children 3; Reconciliation 2).
People come to Mass seeking meaning for their lives,
and a sense of value and worth for themselves. The
Eucharist gives new meaning, and value to God’s
creation and to the people: “the lives of the faithful, their
praise, sufferings, prayer and work, are united with those
of Christ and with his total offering, and so acquire a new
value” (CCC n. 1368).

The Social Justice Committee invites you to join
Catholics taking action in our families, parishes, schools
and communities to reduce our carbon footprint, care for
“the least of these” (Mt. 25) and raise our voice on behalf
of Creation and the poor.
The impact of climate change falls heaviest on
the world’s poor. As Catholics, our faith demands
prudent action.
As faithful Catholics, we have a moral obligation to care
for both Creation and the poor.

Sunday Children’s
Programs
Finding God Fait h Format ion Program
During the past couple of weekends 53 children from the parish celebrated their First
Eucharist. We are very, very happy for such an
occasion. Receiving this sacrament for the first
time is not the end of faith formation; it is one
of many milestones along a life-long journey called discipleship. Therefore, Parents are encouraged to enroll their
children every year in our ongoing Faith Formation classes to help them to increase their knowledge and love of
Jesus and the Catholic Church during those important
years of their formation.
Sessions are scheduled on Sunday mornings from 10:15
to 11:30 am. beginning the first weekend of October.
Registrations for next year's children's Faith Formation are now being taken. Please register before
August 17th.
New and Continuing Registration Forms are available at
the entrances to the Church and in the Parish Office.
They will also be available on our website. All new registrations must provide a Certificate of Baptism even if the
child was baptized at Saint Clare’s.
Our thanks for registering early.

D.A.R.E. Graduation
Are you “D.A.R.E.ing” enough to resist drugs and violence? On April 28, 2015, our 5th grade class graduated
from D.A.R.E. The graduation took place at our St. Clare
Church. Many attended our ceremony: parents, D.A.R.E.
teacher Officer Knight, the Chief of Police, the Captain,
the Lieutenant and other officers from our local Santa
Clara Police Department. We even had a special guest,
Daren the Lion.
This year we had two D.A.R.E. essay winners, Emma
Liang and Andrés Ulloa. They both read their essays to
the audience. Then our class received a special certificate for completing the D.A.R.E. program. At the end,
we sang the D.A.R.E. song accompanied by Daren the
Lion, D.A.R.E. mascot.
We are very grateful to Officer Knight for educating us
about the dangers of drug, alcohol and tobacco use and
its effects.

Scripture Readings
for THIS Sunday
First Reading: Acts 1:1-11
Psalm: 47
Second Reading: Ephesians 1:17-23
Gospel Reading: Mark 16:15-20
Today we celebrate one of the tenets of our creed: that
the Lord ascended into heaven. From Mark’s Gospel we
hear the final words Jesus spoke to his disciples shortly
before he ascended into heaven. Those were words of
commissioning, no less real for us today than they were
to the disciples then. We are called to “proclaim the
gospel to every creature.”
For the vast majority of us, this means that we proclaim
the gospel by the witness of our everyday lives. Treating
others with dignity and respect, providing for those less
fortunate than ourselves, being good stewards of the
many gifts showered on us, coming together as God’s
family in worship and praise—these are all signs that the
gospel has taken root in our lives.

~St. Boniface
Ascenção do Senhor.
A Igreja
começa assim com a assistência do Espírito Santo. A
pregai o Evangelhoa toda a criatura” . Pregar o
Coroações do Espírito Santo
Irmandade Familiar do Espírito Santo e no Domingo
seguinte a coroação do Espírito Santo da SES.
-Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
