Herkunft: Die ursprüngliche Heimat der Nachtkerze ist das südliche Nordamerika
und Mexiko, wo sie in etwa 200 Arten vorkommt. Erst Anfang des 17. Jahrhunderts
kam sie nach Europa und ist heute auch in Kleinasien, Neuseeland, Südamerika und
im südlichen Afrika beheimatet. (Roth/Kormann 2000, S. 65; Hager 1993, S. 930)
Provenance: The original home of the evening primrose is the southern North America and
Mexico, where it occurs in about 200 species. Beginning of the 17th Century it came to
Europe and is now at home in Little Asia, New Zealand, South America and Southern Africa.

Beschreibung der Pflanze: Der lateinische Beiname „biennis“ weist die Nachtkerze
als eine zweijährige Pflanze aus, von der im ersten Jahr kaum mehr als eine am
Boden anliegende Blattrosette mit 20 bis 30 Blättern zu sehen ist. Erst im zweiten Jahr
treibt die Pflanze aus. Es wächst ein ca. 150 cm hoher, dicht belaubter Stängel, der
einen behaarten, kantigen, im oberen Teil verzweigten Spross trägt. Die Blüten sind
traubenartig angelegt, ca. 3 cm lang, kerzenartig geformt und hell- bis goldgelb
gefärbt. Die Blütezeit ist von Juli bis September, wobei sich die Blüten erst in den
Abendstunden öffnen. Die Früchte der Nachtkerze sind walzenförmige, aufrechte
Kapseln, von denen jede bis zu 200 Samen beinhalten kann. Die Samen der
Nachtkerze, aus denen das Nachtkerzenöl gewonnen wird, haben eine Länge von 1.2
bis 2.2 mm und eine Breite von 0.5 bis 1 mm, sind dunkelbraun bis braunschwarz
gefärbt und beinhalten zwischen 15% und 20% pflanzliches Öl. (Roth/Kormann 2000,

Description of the plant: The Latin epithet "biennis" identifies the evening primrose as a
biennial plant. In the first year, there is not more then a little rosette of leaves lying on the
ground, with 20 to 30 leaves. In the second year, the plant starts to grow. It grows about 150
cm in height, with densely leafy stalks, wearing a hairy, angular, and branched rung at the
top. The flowers are laid out like grapes, about 3 inches long, shaped like candles and of light

yellow to golden yellow colour. The flowering period is from July to September; meanwhile the
flowers open only in the evening hours. The fruits of the evening primrose are cylindrical,
erect capsules. Each of them may contain up to 200 seeds. The seeds, from which the evening
primrose oil is expressed, have a length of 1.2 to 2.2 mm and a width of 0.5 to 1 mm, are dark
brown to black in colour and contain between 15% and 20% vegetable oil. (Roth/Kormann

Ölgewinnung: Zur Ölgewinnung werden ausschließlich die Samen verwendet. Sie
werden schonend kalt gepresst (bis 50°C Presstemperatur). Danach wird das Öl
dekantiert und fein filtriert.
Für die gesundheitliche Wirkung des Nachtkerzenöls ist hauptsächlich die GammaLinolensäure verantwortlich. Linolensäuren sind als Ausgangsverbindung für die
Gewebshormone (Prostaglandinen) an fast allen Stoffwechselvorgängen im Körper
beteiligt. Da diese essentielle Fettsäure vom Körper nicht hergestellt werden kann,
muss eine ausreichende Zufuhr gewährleistet werden, um Mangelzustände zu
vermeiden. Das Nachtkerzenöl ist aufgrund seiner hohen Konzentration an GammaLinolensäure einzigartig. Anders als bei den anderen Ölgewinnungsmethoden, wird
insbesondere bei der Kaltpressung sichergestellt, dass die wertvolle GammaLinolensäure erhalten bleibt.
Extraction of the oil: For oil extraction only the seeds are used. The extraction of the oil is
done by cold pressing. The oil is subsequently decanted and filtered.
For the health benefits of evening primrose oil, gamma-linolenic acid is mainly responsible.
Linolenic acid is involved as an educt for tissue hormones (prostaglandins), in almost all
metabolic processes in the body. Because this essential fatty acid can not be synthesized by the
human organism, an adequate intake should be ensured in order to avoid deficiencies.
Evening primrose oil is unique because of its high concentration of gamma-linolenic acid.
Unlike other oil recovery methods, the cold pressing method ensures that the gamma-linolenic
acid is not destroyed and is still remaining in the oil.
Verwendung in der Pharmazie: Linolsäuren spielen eine wichtige Rolle im
Sauerstofftransport über die Lungenbläschen zu den hämoglobinhaltigen Erythrozyten, bis zu hin zu den Mitochondrien jeder einzelnen Zelle im Körper. Gemeinsam
mit schwefelhaltigen Enzymen aktivieren die Linolsäuren den Sauerstoff und die

Hämoglobinbildung, fördern den Abbau von Milchsäure und beschleunigen die
Regeneration. (Hager 1993, S. 931f)
Bei Säugetieren wandelt das Enzym δ-6-Desasturase, die Linolsäure in γLinolensäure um. Dieser Umwandlungsprozess wird durch Alkohol, Cholesterin,
Diabetes mellitus, gesättigte Fettsäuren, Transfettsäuren, Virusinfekte und Zinkmangel gehemmt. Um einen Engpass in der Versorgung des Körpers mit γLinolensäure zu vermeiden, der durch eine mangelnde Aktivität des Enzyms δ-6Desasturase hervorgerufen wird, werden Nachtkerzenöl und andere ϖ-6-Fettsäure
haltigen Öle als dietätische Lebensmittel eingesetzt. (Hager 1993, S. 931f)
Durch die Zufuhr von Nachtkerzenöl wird der Belastung des Herz-Kreislaufsystems
und erhöhter Entzündungsneigung effizient entgegen gewirkt. Es wird ferner die
Regenerationsfähigkeit des Körpers verstärkt. Durch die Zugabe von Nachtkerzenöl
kann auch die Qualität von Muttermilch verbessert werden. Ebenso konnten bei
diabetischer Polyneuropathie, die neurologischen Symptome (Kälte-, Wärme- und
Schmerzempfinden) durch Zugabe von Nachtkerzenöl verbessert werden. Ebenso
verbesserte die Einnahme von Nachtkerzenöl (4g/Tag) die Leberfunktion bei
Alkoholkranken in der Entzugsphase. Auch in der Krebstherapie wird
Nachtkerzenöl unterstützend eingesetzt. So wurde durch die zusätzliche Gabe von
Nachtkerzenöl und Vitamin C das Wachstum von Leberzell-Karzinomen gestoppt
und rückgängig z. T. gemacht. Bei atopischen Exzemen, Hauttrockenheit, Juckreiz,
Hautschuppung, Neurodermitis, prämenstruellem Syndrom, kindlicher Hyperaktivität, erhöhtem Cholesterinspiegel, Diabetes mellitus und Multipler Sklerose
wird es äußerlich als Therapieunterstützung erfolgreich eingesetzt. Die Wirksamkeit
von Nachtkerzenöl bei Akne, Psoriasis und rheumatoider Arthritis ist noch nicht
belegt worden. In der Fachliteratur finden sich allerdings Hinweise über die positive
Wirksamkeit von γ-Linolensäure bei den aufgeführten Beschwerden. (Hager 1993, S.

In mammals, the enzyme δ-6-Desasturase converts linoleic acid into γ-linolenic acid. This
conversion process is inhibited by alcohol, cholesterol, diabetes mellitus, saturated fat, trans
fatty acids, viral infections and zinc deficiency. To avoid under supply of the body with γlinolenic acid, evening primrose oil and other ϖ-6 fatty acid containing oils are used as a
dietary food supplements. (Hager 1993, p. 931f)
Due the supply of evening primrose oil, the exposure of the cardiovascular system and
increased tendency to inflammation is effectively counteracted. And the regeneration ability of
the body is increased as well. The addition of evening primrose oil can improve the quality of
breast milk. It was also possible to improve the neurological symptoms (cold, heat and pain) in
diabetic polyneuropathy by giving evening primrose oil. Furthermore, the liver function of
alcoholic patients in the withdrawal phase was shown to be eased by giving’s of evening
primrose oil (4g/Tag). Evening primrose oil is used to support cancer therapies. A liver cell
carcinoma was reduced by a combination of evening primrose oil and vitamin C. It is
successfully used as an external therapeutic support with atopic eczema, dry skin, itching,
skin peeling, eczema, premenstrual syndrome, childhood hyperactivity, elevated cholesterol
levels, diabetes mellitus and multiple sclerosis. The effectiveness of evening primrose oil for
acne, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis has not been established yet. However, evidence about
the positive effect of γ-linolenic acid can be found in the literature.. (Hager 1993, p. 931ff;

Verwendung in der Kosmetik: Nachtkerzenöl verschafft besonders jenen Menschen
Linderung, die unter besonders reizempfindlicher Haut leiden. Mit den zahlreichen
Mineralstoffen, Vitaminen und ungesättigten Fettsäuren helfen Cremes oder
Hautöle, die Nachtkerzenöl enthalten, bei trockener, schuppiger und juckender
Haut. Die hautpflegenden Eigenschaften des Nachtkerzenöls tragen zu einer

Use in cosmetics: Evening primrose oil provides more relief to those people who suffer from
particularly irritating sensitive skin. With numerous minerals, vitamins and unsaturated
fatty acids included, skin creams or oils containing evening primrose oil are useful for dry,
scaly and itchy skin. The skin care properties of evening primrose oil help to calm the skin.

Verwendung in der Küche: Die Verwendung von Nachtkerzenöl in der kalten
Küche ist ebenso denkbar. Aufgrund seines Geschmacks wird es hierbei oft nur in
Kombination mit anderen, schmackhafteren Speiseölen verwendet.

Das Produkt ist GVO frei und unterliegt somit nicht der Kennzeichnungspflicht gemäß VO (EG)
1829/2003 und VO (EG) 1830/2003. Zur Herstellung wurden weder bestrahlte Rohstoffe eingesetzt
noch wurde das Produkt selbst bestrahlt. Das Produkt ist rein pflanzlichen Ursprungs und kommt
während seiner Herstellung, Lagerung und seines Transports mit keinerlei tierischen Materialien in
Berührung. Die Angaben in dieser Spezifikation haben rein informativen Charakter und werden unter
Ausschluss jeglicher Gewährleistung gemacht, insbes. bezüglich der Verletzung von
Eigentumsrechten dritter Seite durch die Verwendung des Produkts. Sie sind nicht verbindlich und
beinhalten auch keine Eigenschaftszusicherung. Sie stammen aus der Fachliteratur, aus den
Spezifikationen von Lieferanten sowie aus Analysezertifikaten und sind nach unserem Wissen das
Ergebnis von Beobachtungen und „In Vitro“, bzw. chemischen oder physikalischen LaborUntersuchungen. Eine bestimmte Wirkungsweise am Menschen wurde nicht getestet. Die Angaben
