Granite Links ist ein
­fantastischer Golfclub mit
atemberaubender Sicht
auf die Skyline von Boston
und auf die ­Harbor
­Islands. Granite, nur eine
Viertelstunde von Downtown Boston entfernt, ist
eigentlich ein Members’
Club. Aber erstaunlicherweise sind hier auch
Greenfeespieler herzlich
willkommen. Nur ­gerade
der noble Grille Room
und ein paar weitere Annehmlichkeiten sind
den Mitgliedern vorbehalten. Gäste erholen
sich in der preisgekrönten,
sympathischen Tavern.
John Sanford hat in den
Quarry Hills 27 gross­­zü­gige Löcher designt. Die
Qualität der Anlage ist
­beeindruckend, und das
schlägt sich in den
­Rankings nieder: Granite
hat’s bei «Golf Digest»
schnell in die Top 100 geschafft. Wohl auch weil
klassische Links-Plätze in
Massachusetts Seltenheitswert haben.
Das Mandarin Oriental
ist das erste Haus am Platz.
Unspektakulär von aus­
sen, auf 5-Sterne-Niveau
mit sehr zuvorkommendem Service. Die Lage
ist perfekt (Restaurants,
Shoppingcenter in Geh­
distanz). Und: New-YorkStar Daniel Boulud hat
im Mandarin eine ­Filiale.
­Un­kompliziert, Bistro Style. Dazu Boston ­Seafood.
Granite Links is well worth
a visit. Just 15 minutes
from Downtown Boston,
the golf club and course
offer fabulous views of
the city and the Harbor
­Islands. Granite Links is
actually an upmarket
members’ club. But greenfee players are also unusually warmly welcomed.
Only the elegant Grille
Room and a few other facilities are members only.
But guests will find that
the friendly and awardwinning Tavern meets all
their food and drink
needs.
As for the golf: John
Sanford has laid out 27 generous holes among the
Quarry Hills. The quality
is truly impressive, and
it’s small wonder that
Granite Links has rapidly
made it into “Golf Digest’s”
Top 100 – helped, no
doubt, by the rarity of classic links courses in the
Massachusetts region.
For hotels, the Mandarin Oriental is the top
local address. It’s none too
spectacular from the outside, but it offers five-star
service that is accommodating in the extreme. It’s
also ideally located, with
restaurants and shopping
centres all in walking
­distance. And New York
star chef Daniel Boulud
has an eatery at the
­Mandarin, too: simple
­bistro style, with Boston
seafood to boot.
