Incluem o rigor (accuracy), a exaustividade e a actualidade. A coluna M indica as condicionantes (M=mandatory; O=Optional). Figura 4 - Formulário relativo a Administrative Details. Fernanda Néry (32) SNiRH Figura 5 - Formulário relativo a Data Content. Não é possível acrescentar novas áreas ao Gazetteer geográfico rudimentar cuja lista contains the country names and a three-digit country code (ISO) for all European countries, plus the names of the administrative units at the next lower level for the EU countries (a partir do Help da aplicação). Fernanda Néry (33) SNiRH Figura 8 - Formulário relativo a Spatial Reference System. Metadata format Issues For lack of any other example, the literal content of the metadata as defined in the Standard with the: Element_Name: Element Value form has become the base format for the mockup or presentation of FGDC metadata. Because there may be ambiguities in the creation of this format (capitalization, blank versus "_", indentation) it is not a desirable format for information exchange. Through experimentation it was proven that the encoding of the metadata using this "tag: value" syntax with indentation to enforce the beginning and ending of compound elements was an adequate "minimum" expression of metadata entries that could be used in Clearinghouse. Because of the potential for ambiguities in this format it was noted at the first Metadata Implementors' Workshop in Reston in March 1995 that formats would be required for metadata exchange and presentation to make Clearinghouse -- and any viable metadata entry tools -- succeed. 2. Metadata formats for Clearinghouse Two formatting requirements were defined early on in attempts to implement the Metadata Standard: - a computer-readable format for data exchange and - standard methods of presenting the metadata contents Although there is a temptation to lump form and content into the same bin (e.g."What I see in my database is what I print"), the ability to differentiate the contents of the metadatabase (the columns or fields) from its presentation (writing formatted reports) is now commonplace in desktop database software packages. This allows users to consider more flexibly how to present what information. The Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) provides two solutions to this metadata problem. First, it includes a rigorous markup language (the parent of HTML) with structural rules enforced through a control file to validate document structure. Second, through a companion standard, SGML may be used along with a style sheet to produce standardized presentations of content, allowing the user to shuffle field order, change tag names, or show only certain fields of information. Used together SGML and style sheets allow for a structured exchange format and for flexible presentation. 8.2 Catálogo The Clearinghouse Activity, sponsored by the FGDC, is a decentralized system of servers located on the Internet which contain field-level descriptions of available digital spatial data. This descriptive information, known as metadata, are collected in a standard format to facilitate query and consistent presentation across multiple participating sites. Clearinghouse uses readily available Web technology for the client side and uses the ANSI standard Z39.50 for the query, search, and presentation of search results to the Fernanda Néry (35) SNiRH Web client. [ ...] A fundamental goal of Clearinghouse is to provide access to digital spatial data through metadata. The Clearinghouse functions as a detailed catalog service with support for links to spatial data and browse graphics. Clearinghouse sites are encouraged to provide hypertext linkages within their metadata entries that enable users to directly download the digital data set in one or more formats. Where digital data are too large to be made available through the Internet or the data products are made available for sale, linkage to an order form can be provided in lieu of a data set. Through this model, Clearinghouse metadata provides lowcost advertising for providers of spatial data, both non-commerical and commercial, to potential customers via the Internet. 8.3 Implementação The role of the FGDC in Clearinghouse is to develop prototype software, provide reference implementations, facilitate discussions among Clearinghouse participants, develop and present training materials, and operate a registry service of conforming spatial data servers. It is not the intent of the FGDC to create a centralized data system or index but to facilitate distributed search against multiple, current stores of spatial metadata and data on the Internet. [ ...]To provide search interoperability among different servers of geospatial metadata, the search and retrieve protocol known as ANSI Z39.50-1995 (ISO 10163-1995) was selected by the FGDC Clearinghouse activity. The Z39.50 protocol includes client and server software that establish a connection, pass a formatted query, return query results, and present identified documents to the client in one of several formats. The Z39.50 protocol was initially developed by the library community to discover bibliographic records using a standard set of attributes, that would allow any Z39.50 client to present information from different yet similarly-structured servers. On the host (server) computer, Z39.50 server software typically communicates with an appropriate search engine (data base or indexing software) to process the query and formulate the results. In this way, the Z39.50 protocol can provide an alternative access method to existing geospatial data bases or metadata collections without requiring redesign of existing data systems through use of a single, standards-based protocol. Z39.50 maintenance agencies have the ability to register specific sets of attributes, operators, and rules of implementation as Application Profiles. Once adopted, these profiles are available to the implementor community for incorporation into existing client and server software. The FGDC has developed a profile for geospatial metadata, called "GEO," which provides guidance on how to implement FGDC metadata elements within a Z39.50 service. There can be a high degree of collaboration and re-use of data elements among the existing profiles. Elements from the base bib-1 attribute set are used in the Government Information Locator Service (GILS) profile, which, in turn, constitute a subset of the GEO profile. The Committee on Earth Observing Satellites (CEOS) has developed a Catalog Interoperability Profile (CIP) which includes the GEO attributes as well as those used by other spatial catalog systems.(Nebert, 1997) Existem várias aplicações disponíveis para gestão de metadados de acordo com a norma americana (sem que seja obrigatória a disponibilizaçãoda metainformação na Clearinghouse). Adicionalmente será testada a Metadata Extension for ArcView do U.S.B.R.. For example, Attribute includes Attribute_Domain_Values which includes Enumerated_Domain which includes Attribute. The bottom line is that you can fit FGDC metadata into a relational database only if your database schema is a restricted subset of the syntactical structure of the FGDC standard. This means you cannot create a program that can ingest every possible FGDC- conforming metadata record. Exemplos: Texto livre (Purpose) List domain (Progress) Valor numérico (inteiro > 1 - Source scale denominator) Fernanda Néry (40) SNiRH 9. 35 s_usmarc; s_subj_add_entry_top_term; s_t_t_gen_subdiv; s_t_t_geog_subdiv; s_t_t_chronolog_subdiv; s_subj_add_entry_geog_subdiv; s_g_n_gen_sub_div; s_added_entry; s_corporate_name; s_personal_name; s_variant_title; s_c_ratio_l_h_scale; s_system_com_num; s_local_call_num ; s_extent; s_c_dim. Sobre a aplicabilidade da norma USMARC à informação geográfica digital transcrevem-se os seguintes textos: The USMARC formats (U. S. Machine Readable Cataloging) are standards for the representation and communication of bibliographic and related information in machine-readable form. A USMARC record involves three elements: the record structure, the content designation, and the data content of the record. (Mangan, 1997). MARC, MAchine Readable Cataloging, has become the basis for resource sharing among libraries. The hard line proposed by some excellent librarians is that digital spatial data ought to be cataloged using the MARC format so it, too, can be shared. Because MARC was originally designed to create catalog records for books and textual materials, it had to be adapted for the cataloging of hard copy maps by acknowledging cartographic data attributes, such as scale, projection, and coordinates, with their own fields. The excellent librarians have backed their proposal to catalog digital spatial data in MARC format with a lot of hard collective work tweaking MARC structure once again, this time to accommodate the attributes of GIS data (Mangan, 1995). There is now a crosswalk for catalogers to link the fields of the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Metadata with those of USMARC. What this means for libraries is that they can now catalog GIS data more or less the way they catalog other formats. What it means for the GIS community is that you can let them do it. (FELL & HANSEN, 1997). 10.1 Metadados Tabela K - Correspondência entre a norma CSDGM do FGDC e a norma USMARC (Mangan, 1997). Descrição dos produtos tipo catalogados no âmbito do GDDD. Standard Product Type Descrição Digital Cartographic Model Simple digital maps having a "flat" data structure, e.g. digitised maps. Digital Cartographic Models (DCMs) are suitable for display and plots purposes. In the context of GIS the DCM may be used as background information. The geometric form of the DCM is vector. 31 Digital Cartographic Model plus raster data Hybrid of Digital Cartographic Model and raster data. 3 Digital Elevation Model The Digital Elevation Model (DEM) only contains elevation data. Normally, the height data are arranged in a matrix. Also vector based contour lines and spot elevations are considered as DEM. 24 Digital Landscape Model A Digital Landscape Model (DLM) is an object orientated topographic database. The data structure facilitates spatial analysis and linkage of geographic objects to external data. The geometric form of the DLM is vector. The DLM often contains explicit or implicit topological information. The objects, their attributes and the relations between the objects are referred to in terms of real world entities. 56 Digital Landscape Model plus raster data Hybrid of Digital Landscape Model and raster data. 0 Gazetteer A catalogue of toponyms (place names) assigned with geographic references. 13 No information available The product type is either unknown or is not included in the classification. 10 Orthophoto map Digital or digitised aerial photographs where the pixels are geometrically rectified and given geographical references. The data structure is raster. Orthophoto map may include details of topography and names. 4 Register of geodetic points A catalogue of geodetic control points, e.g. trignonometric points and levelling benchmarks. 7 Register of land A general term used for the designation of registers for ownership of land, e.g. cadastre and registers of territorial rights. 4 Scanned map Analogue maps digitised by scanning. The data structure of scanned maps is raster. 52 Space map The map is based on data acquired from space, e.g. remote sensing data. The data structure of space maps are raster. Space map may include details of topography and names. 1 Fichas Tabela P - Data Capture Technique Definitions. Formas de aquisição de informação do produtos catalogados no âmbito do GDDD. Aquisição Definição Census A census is na official survey of the population of a country. Census data are alpha/numeric data. The geographical references of census data are often indirect. Field survey The geometry of the geographical features is determined by using terrestrial measurements, e.g. polar measurements and levelling with reference to the geodetic network. The geometric form of field surveyed data is vector. The geographic features are identified at the source by field observations. Manual digitising The base data for manual digitised data are analogue maps (paper maps). The geometry of the map features is digitised using a digitising tablet and geographically referenced by coordinate transformations. The geometric form of manual digitised data is vector. The identification of the geographic features relies on the method used for capturing the original analogue data. Photogrammetry The geometry of the geographical features is determined by digitising (aerial) photographs. Usually the geometric form of photogrammetic data is vector but raster data might also be produced by photogrammetry, e.g. digital orthophoto maps. The geographical features are identified by their appearance in the photograph. Remote sensing Remotely sensed data are usually acquired from air or space borne sensors, e.g. multispectral scanners and radars. The remote sensing dataset consists of a set of raster images where each pixel represents the intensity of the reflection/echo of a geographical area in specified band of the electro magnetic spectrum. The geographic features may be identified by image interpretation with or without ground control data. Scanning The base data for scanning are analogue data (paper maps). The map is decomposed with the aid of an image scanner into a number of adjacent image elements (pixels) forming a digital image of the map. The geographical features may be identified by the user. No information available The method or technique applied for the data capture is either unknown or is not included in the classification Fernanda Néry (59) SNiRH Tabela Q - Keyword Definitions. # Feature Definition 1 CULTURE (category) A general term covering any man-made construction or relict of human activity devoted to the lives of human beings, e.g. industry, transportation and leisure.
