Press Release 28th July 2010 CISV and Studieren Ohne Grenzen are the winners of the 1GOAL O2 Crew charity competition MUNICH/Germany. Over four thousand O2 Crew members took part in the Telefónica O2 Germany charity competition for the 1GOAL initiative. The two organisations CISV Germany e.V. and Studieren Ohne Grenzen e.V. will each receive a donation of €10,000. Under the motto 'Education for All', O2 issued a challenge in June via the O2 Crew web platform for its members to champion the theme of education and establish a crew of their own with friends and acquaintances. The two biggest crews are to receive €10,000 each from O2 for a charitable education project of their choice. The organisations CISV Germany e.V. and Studieren Ohne Grenzen came out top with 645 and 594 supporters respectively, and can be delighted about the donation. CISV Germany e.V. organises exchange programmes for children and young people with the aim of promoting intercultural communication and peace education. "What is special about the projects is that values such as tolerance and individual responsibility are conveyed in a fun manner through workshops and camps", explains Frank Steffen, captain of the winning crew. CISV wants to use the €10,000 for the 'International Meeting' in Berlin. There, under the patronage of Berlin's Mayor Klaus Wowereit, there will be a week of education and training sessions in August under the heading of Diversity and Cultural Awareness. Studieren Ohne Grenzen e.V. was founded by students who want to support their fellow students from regions affected by war and crisis. With its grants programme in Chechnya, the association enables young people to come to Germany to study a subject of their choice. "With our prize from O2 we can finance a one-year grant for a talented person and offer the necessary prospects for the future", explains Eva Hanau of Studieren Ohne Grenzen. "The basic idea behind our project work corresponds strongly with the objectives of 1GOAL. We would like to thank O2 for supporting this initiative!" Telefónica O2 Germany GmbH & Co. Two of the eight goals involve ending poverty through providing education for all, which ensured that all boys and girls complete primary schooling by 2015. Since then many countries have abolished school fees, spending was increased and an extra 40 million children are now going to school. However, today 75 million children are still unable to go to school. 1GOAL is an initiative to mobilise support to hold world leaders to these promises for 2015 and is run by the Global Campaign for Education and is part of a large global education initiative. 1GOAL is being coordinated by the GSMA, which represents the global mobile industry and is supported by more than 140 of the biggest names in the football world, among them Zinedine Zidane, Alessandro del Piero, Rio Ferdinand, Thierry Henry und Eusebio. From the entertainment world 1GOAL is supported by Shakira, Jessica Alba and Kevin Spacey. Further information: Telefónica O2 Germany GmbH & Co.
