Kooperation mit der gamescom
Die B3 und die gamescom, das weltgrößte Event für Computer- und Videospiele,
setzen ihre 2014 begonnene Zusammenarbeit fort. Das vereinbarten jetzt Dr.
Maximilian Schenk, Geschäftsführer des Verbandes der deutschen Computer- und
Videospielbranche BIU – Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware, dem
Träger der gamescom, und Prof. Bernd Kracke, Präsident der Hochschule für
Gestaltung Offenbach und Künstlerischer Leiter der B3. Im Herbst 2014 hatte sich
die gamescom bereits als Kooperationspartner des B3 Think Tanks sowie des
Nachwuchsfestivals B3 Autumn School engagiert. Als Schwerpunkte der
Zusammenarbeit für 2015 definierten Kracke und Schenk neben gemeinsamen
PR- und Marketingaktivitäten einen umfangreichen programmatischen Austausch.
Themen und Sprecher beider Partner sollen in den Fachteilen und
Businessprogrammen von gamescom und B3 fest verankert werden. Themen und

B3 Filmprogramm startet mit „Live from New York”
Mit dem Vietnamesisch-Amerikaner Bao Nguyen kommt einer der
renommiertesten Kurz- und Dokumentarfilmer nach Frankfurt. Im Rahmen des B3Filmprogramms zeigt er sein jüngstes Werk „Live from New York“ über die
Comedy Show „Saturday Night Live“, die dieses Jahr ihren 40. Geburtstag feiert.
Der Dokumentarfilm war umjubelter Eröffnungsfilm des B3-Partnerfestivals Tribeca
in New York. Der vielfach preisgekrönte Regisseur stellt sich im Anschluss den
Fragen des Publikums.

Eine neue Dimension des Kinos
Zum zweiten Mal auf der B3: „Fulldome“ heißt eine neue Dimension des
Filmerlebens. Dabei verlässt der Film das konventionelle Format der rechteckigen
Leinwand und erstreckt sich über den ganzen Raum: Die Projektion ringsum in
eine 360°-Kuppel ermöglicht den Betrachtenden das Eintauchen in die Bildwelten.
Dieses Medium, bisher eher aus dem Kontext von Wissenschaftserlebnisfilmen für
Planetarien bekannt, wird gegenwärtig intensiv von Film- und Videokünstlern
weltweit erforscht. Die B3 Biennale präsentiert unter dem Titel „Immersionen.
Domefilme, 3D-Sound und VR-Projekte“ vom 7. bis 11. Oktober eine Auswahl
hochkarätiger künstlerischer Fulldome-Filme sowie Soundprojekte aus Europa und
Übersee und diskutiert mit den anwesenden Filmemachern die Möglichkeiten
dieser neuen Medien. Kuratiert werden die Projekte von Prof. Rotraut Pape, Prof.
Sabine Breitsameter, Anita Beckers und Prof. Bernd Kracke.

Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden: „Whatever man built could be taken
apart“: Image / Order
Nichts prägt die Wahrnehmung unserer Gegenwart mehr als die zunehmende
Technologisierung und Medialisierung. Die zweigeteilte Ausstellung „Whatever
man built could be taken apart“: Image / Order nimmt sich jeweils einem
spezifischen Aspekt dieser Entwicklung an und zeigt junge Künstlerinnen und
Künstler, die sich dem Internet und neuen Technologien als Materialquelle oder
Medium bedienen. Das Bindeglied zwischen den beiden Ausstellungsteilen
besteht in der Rekonfiguration von bereits existierendem Bild- und Videomaterial
aus diversen Kontexten als künstlerische Praxis. In der Umformung des Materials
– im Sinne zeitgemäßer Aneignungs-Verfahren – entstehen Reflexionen über
aktuelle künstlerischen Produktionsbedingungen und gesellschaftliche
Organisationsstrukturen.

Zu Gast auf der B3: Dr. Jasmina Kallay
Nicht weniger als das „Ende des Bildschirms“ prophezeit Dr. Jasmina Kallay. Die
britische Drehbuchautorin, Schriftstellerin und Dozentin schrieb 2012 mit Beat Girl
einen Jugendroman, der als Spielfilm und EMMY-nominierte TV-Serie verfilmt
wurde. Kallay ist überzeugt davon, dass wir an der Schwelle zu einer neuen Ära
des Geschichtenerzählens stehen, ausgelöst u.a. durch die vielfältigen
transmedialen Möglichkeiten dank Technologien wie Augmented oder Virtual
Reality. Die Transmedia-Gestalterin wird dazu am 9. Oktober auf der B3 sprechen.

Cooperation with gamescom
The B3 and gamescom, the world's biggest event for computer and video games,
are continuing the collaboration that they began in 2014. Dr. Maximilian Schenk,
Director of The German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software
BIU, which organizes gamescom, and Prof. Bernd Kracke, President of the
University of Art and Design Offenbach and Artistic Director of B3, have just
announced the agreement. In the autumn of 2014, gamescom had already
become involved as a cooperation partner for the B3 Think Tank and the B3
Autumn School for young people. Alongside common PR and marketing activities,
Kracke and Schenk have committed to comprehensive program exchange as a
focus of the collaboration for 2015. The topics and speakers from both partners are
intended to be strongly based in the specialist areas and business programs of

B3 Film Program kicks off with "Live from New York"
With the Vietnamese-American film-maker Bao Nguyen, one of the most renowned
short and documentary filmmakers is coming to Frankfurt. As part of the B3 Film
Program, he will be showing his latest work, "Live from New York", about the
comedy show "Saturday Night Live", which celebrated its 40th birthday this year.
The documentary was the highly acclaimed opening film of the B3 partner festival
Tribeca in New York. At the conclusion of the film, the multi-award-winning director
will answer questions from the audience.

A new dimension in cinema
For the second time at B3: "Fulldome" means a new dimension in film experience.
Film leaves its conventional format of the square screen behind and stretches out
over the entire space of the cinema: projected all the way around a 360° dome, it
allows the viewers to immerse themselves in the image-world. This medium – until
now only really known in scientific film installations in planetaria – is currently being
intensively investigated by film and video artists. Under the title "Immersions:
Dome Films, 3D Sound and VR Projects", from October 7th-11th, the B3 Biennale
presents a selection of top-shelf artistic fulldome films and sound projects from
Europe and beyond, and discusses the possibilities of these new media with the
attending filmmakers. The projects are curated by Prof. Rotraut Pape, Prof. Sabine
Breitsameter, Anita Beckers and Prof. Bernd Kracke.

apart": Image / Order
Nothing marks the perception of our present moment more than the increasing
forces of technologization and mediatization. The two-part exhibition "Whatever
man built could be taken apart": Image / Order, takes on specific aspects of this
development, and shows young artists who are using the internet and new
technologies as a source of materials. The link between the two exhibitions
consists in the reconfiguration of pre-existing image and video material from
diverse contexts as an artistic practice. In the remodeling of the material – as a
kind of process of appropriation – reflections arise around the current conditions of
artistic production and structures of social organization.

GUEST APPEARANCE at B3: Dr. Jasmina Kallay
Dr. Jasmina Kallay predicts nothing less than the "end of the screen." In 2012, the
British screenwriter, writer and academic wrote the young-adult novel Beat Girl,
which has since been made into an EMMY-nominated TV series. Kallay is
convinced that we are on the cusp of a new era of storytelling, triggered in part by
the various transmedia possibilities brought by technologies such as augmented or
virtual reality. The transmedia designer will talk about this on October 9th at B3.
