4TH LATIN AMERICAN MEETING ON TREATMENT OF VIRAL HEPATITIS AND HIV CO-INFECTION TREATMENT OF VIRAL HEPATITIS AND HIV CO-INFECTION SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL • 20-21 MARCH 2015 EVALUATION REPORT www.virology-education.com EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The annual Latin American Meeting on Treatment of Viral Hepatitis was initiated four years ago and is recognized as a unique and important educational meeting for caregivers in the field of Hepatitis C. Given the many changes in the field of Viral Hepatitis and the urgent need for education of practising clinicians in Latin America, we have established a Latin American program for scientific exchange and education in collaboration with national and international Key Opinion Leaders. The workshop is focused on the most recent developments in clinical management of Viral Hepatitis and brings together infectious diseases doctors and hepatologists as well as other healthcare professionals involved in treating HCV and co-infected patients. This year’s edition was again a unique high profile educational event with the contribution of key opinion leaders. The Program and Scientific Committee had set up a program for treating physicians to discuss the latest developments in the field of Hepatitis B and C treatment and the promising treatment possibilities of new antivirals that are becoming available. The conference presentations were focused on the translation of these new data and availability of new drugs into daily clinical practice. IMPACT The workshop was very well received, which is reflected by the evaluation results. 89% of the respondents indicated that this workshop has enhanced their professional effectiveness. Lastly, 88% of the clinicians responded that they will improve their daily practice as a result of attending this conference. The Program and Scientific Committee and the Organizing Secretariat highly value the opinion of the participants in order to further improve the quality of the workshop. Participants were asked to complete an evaluation form to share their opinion on several subjects. BACKGROUND Currently, many exciting developments are taking place in the field of Hepatitis C treatment and the new Antivirals that are becoming available provide promising new treatment possibilities. However, it is of crucial importance that the knowledge that is available among the experts in the field is translated to clinical practice. It is therefore that we have initiated a true educational platform for caregivers in the field of Hepatitis C treatment which provides an opportunity to be educated on all aspects of the new antivirals and most importantly on how to implement these new antivirals in daily practice. The mission of this annual medical conference is to provide a Latin American, independent and scientific platform for healthcare professionals involved in treatment of Viral Hepatitis, such as clinicians, researchers, nurses, Post-docs, government employees, industry representatives and other professionals, where they share and discuss the latest developments in the field and the implications for daily practice. FORMAT This two-day international scientific and educational workshop consists of invited lectures by key opinion leaders, clinical case presentations, discussions and abstract presentations. In order to ascertain an interactive workshop setting, much time is allocated to discussion.
