RESUMO
Este trabalho foi proposto na intenção de demonstrar os principais aspectos da teoria
Darwinista da evolução, suas bases e a sua importância dentro da biologia moderna.
Apesar da teoria de Darwin ter recebido duras criticas no final do século XIX e no
começo do século XX, após a reavaliação feita por grandes cientistas a partir da década
de 1940, verificou-se que o paradigma darwiniano continua a ser o eixo central de toda
a biologia, constando em disciplinas diversas como a anatomia comparada, sistemática,
zoologia, biologia molecular, ecologia e botânica entre outras. O principal objetivo
deste trabalho consiste em apresentar os principais conceitos da teoria da evolução das
espécies com maior ênfase no processo de seleção natural, considerando a importância
deste conceito para a teoria sintética ou moderna da Evolução. Para tanto, este
levantamento enfocará principalmente o gênero Geopiza (tentilhões de Darwin), devido
a importância atribuída a essas aves na explicação da seleção natural deste a época que
descrita pelo cientista Charles Darwin.

ABSTRACT:
This work was proposed in order to show the main aspects of the theory of Darwinian
evolution, its foundations and its importance in modern biology. Although Darwin's
theory has received harsh criticism in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century,
after the revaluation made by great scientists from the 1940s, it was found that the
Darwinian paradigm remains the lynchpin of the entire biology, consisting in various
disciplines such as comparative anatomy, systematics, zoology, molecular biology,
ecology and botany among others. The main objective of this work is to present the
main concepts of the theory of evolution with greater emphasis on the process of natural
selection, considering the importance of this concept to the synthetic theory of evolution
or modern. Therefore, this survey will focus primarily gender Geopiza (Darwin's
finches), because of the importance attached to these birds in the explanation of natural
selection this season that described by scientist Charles Darwin.
