Thursday,12 May: the 10th day of the Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay began in Naque
(population 8,000). This morning the town was decorated from top to bottom,ready to celebrate
the arrival of the Olympic Flame. Balloons forming theOlympic rings decorated the main square.
Children made paper torches and ranwith them through the streets. The mascots of the Rio
2016 Olympic andParalympic Games, Tom and Vinícius, were painted on the road surface,
ready towelcome the relay. A wall was beautifully painted with the torch. In front ofthe Parish
Church of Santo Antônio, Father Leni Silva blessed the Olympic Flame.According to Military
Police estimates, 4,000 residents (half the population!)turned out to welcome the Olympic
Flame.

CarlosMagno da Costa, 42, set up the balloon decorations in the main square, helpedby
his wife Liliane Sena Silveira, 37. They are both decorators in Naque."It’s gratifying to make
your mark on the history of the town. It took usabout seven hours, but it was worth it for this
special moment," saidCarlos Magno.

LucimarAparecida Moura has already competed in two Olympic Games (Atlanta and
Athens)as a member of the 4 x 100 m relay team. "The feeling of carrying thetorch was even
more moving than competing in the Games. Here we are able tojust enjoy the wonderful
atmosphere instead of feeling nervous and anxious towin. It has been magic,” she said.

CoronelFabriciano was the second town on the relay route. The Olympic Flamecelebration
featured congada dancers,a helicopter fly-by and rose petal shower, two human statues and a
race walkingcompetition. Most of those who came out onto the streets crowded ArthurBernardes
Square to cheer on the relay.

DonLélis Lara, archbishop of the local diocese, carried the torch in CoronelFabriciano. He
is 90 years old and let the public in on a few secrets tostaying in fine physical form and running
the 200-metre relay stretch. “Myparents, thank God, endowed me with favourable genes. To
back up this healthyinheritance, I try to contemplate nature, listen to good music, meditate on
God, live a convivial life with others and eat healthily. The Olympic Torch hasa memorable
history. I see this run as a path that links the places throughwhich the torch passes with a
wonderful message of universal brotherhood, ” hesaid.

Rankedin second place as a race walker in Brazil, over the past few years Rudney
Nogueira has been to Chile, the United States, Spain and England to competeside-by-side with
the best on the international race walking scene. Rudney hasbeen a race walker for 11 years.
He began running in the streets with friendswho wanted to lose weight and became passionate
about athletics. "I’mtrying to qualify for the Olympics. This is the biggest dream for any athlete,
and running with the torch so near to where I live, here in Coronel Fabriciano,is a really
overwhelming feeling," he said.

Today,the Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay will continue its journey to Itabira, the hometown
of the poet, Carlos Drummond de Andrade.

autorização e/ou seus produtos são conectados ou associados ao Revezamento da Tocha Olímpica, ao Jogos

Terms of Use
Rights Holding Broadcasters (RHBs): RHBs may broadcast the Olympic torch relay in Brazil, on a nonexclusive basis, in accordance with the terms of their respective media rights agreement with the IOC.
Non-Rights Holding Broadcasters (Non-RHBs): Non-RHBs may broadcast the Olympic torch relay in Brazil
(with the exclusion of the opening and closing ceremonies), on a non-exclusive basis, for a maximum of 24 hours
after the event. Any such broadcast must be positioned as news only and not to create, or be positioned as,
Olympic torch relay focused programming.
No commercial/promotional association is permitted with the coverage of the Olympic torch relay. In particular,
broadcast of the Olympic torch relay may not (i) be sponsored or otherwise be associated in any way to give the
impression that Non-RHBs and/or any unauthorized entities and/or products are linked to or associated to the
Olympic torch relay, the Olympic Games, the IOC and/or the Olympic Movement and (ii) imply, suggest or
represent Non-RHBs as being official rights holding broadcasters and/or partners of the Olympic torch relay, the
Olympic Games, the IOC and/or the Olympic Movement.
Opening and Closing ceremonies: The part of the torch relay occurring during the opening and closing
ceremonies of the Games is part of the exclusive rights granted to RHBs and any broadcast by Non-RHBs must
comply with the IOC News Access Rules.
