1. General Information
The City of Arts Foundation is a complex with a lot of theatres, reharsal´s rooms and other spaces. Like: Grande
Sala, Teatro de Câmara, Electroacustic´s Room, Rehearsal Room 1, Rehearsal Room 2 and Rehearsal Room 3.
1.1 Schedule
Technical schedules must be:
 submitted at least three months in advance
 agreed at least eight weeks in advance
 Please include the numbers of theatre crew you require for each call.
Working hours are:
8:00 to 23:00 with break of 1h for lunch and 1h for dinner (hour according the productions)

1.2 Licensing
Information regarding any film or video.
1.3 Health and Safety
Brazilian Law requires the Theatre and the Visiting Company to ensure that certain standards are met. Without
meeting these standard, you may not be allowed your equipment, scenery, effects, etc. In the extreme case, the
production may have to be cancelled.
Visiting Companies are requested to cooperate fully the earliest stages of planning.
In particular:
3 months in advance, please provide:
 A summary document – highlighting anything that may be cause for concern
 Risk assessments – for any hazardous scenery, effects or actions
 Procedures (safe working practice) – for any hazardous scenery, effects or actions
 Effects Plots – for any hazardous scenery, effects or actions
 Certificates of competence – evidence of an operator´s competence (effects, lifting equipment, weaponry)

Material safety data sheets – information regarding safe use, handling, disposal etc. (any chemical including
pyrotechnics, smoke and haze fluid)
1.4 Fireproofing
Sets and Furniture should be fireproof. Spray or paint treatment alone does not usually achieve sufficient protection. In
general scenery should be made from the following:





non-combustible material
inherently flame-retardant or durably-treated flame-treated fabric
timber (below 22mm), hardboard or plywood (below 18mm) treated by a process of impregnation which meets
class 1 when tested in accordance with BS476-7
timber framing with minimum 22mm nominal thickness
MDF, plywood, chipboard not less than 18mm
Costumes and Bedding do not usually have to be fireproofed.
Please provide:
 Certificates of fireproofing
Items which are not tested or certified may be tested by a competent person nominated by the Barbican and the cost
of this may be passed on to the Company.
In cases of doubt, items will be tested on arrival.
Plastics will be subject to special consideration in all cases.
1.4.1 Smoking
There is no smoking allowed anywhere inside the building.
1.4.2 Effects (naked flames, pyrotechnics, smoke and haze, compressed gasses)
Must be handled only by a competent person who will be required to demonstrate the effects and explain their use to
the authorities during the get-in.
In addition, for flammables, chemicals and pyrotechnics :
 Safe Storage – the City of Arts Foundation will provide safe storage.
1.4.3 Electrical Equipment
Electrical equipment should be manufactured and tested to a recognised international standard. All electrical
equipment brought by the visiting company should be:
 well maintained
 recently tested for electrical safety
In addition, any power distribution must:
 have appropriate RCD protection
 be properly earthed
Please provide:
 test certificates or letter of conformance
Ozone generating projectors cannot be used under any circumstances.
1.4.4 Work Equipment
Any machinery or equipment to be used in the theatre must comply according to Brazilian Law.

1.4.5 Manual/Mechanical Handling
Please provide:
 details of any heavy or awkward items of scenery or equipment
 specialist lifting or moving requirements
1.4.6 Lifting/Flying Equipment & Scenery
Lifting Equipment
Any lifting equipment to be used in the theatre must comply with the Brazilian Law for Lifting Operations and Lifting
Equipment Regulations irrespective of the country of origin. All lifting equipment (hoists, motors, wires, ropes, slings,
chains, or other lifting tackle) brought by the visiting company should be:
 clearly stamped or tagged with safe working load (SWL) and a unique identification number.

Please provide:
 test certificates
No untested lifting equipment may be used.
Flown Scenery
Details of all flown scenery or equipment whether powered or not, must be provided. Each flown piece should be:
 clearly labelled indicating its weight

The audience must be notified, before the beginning of the performance, if strobes are used
1.4.11 Gás Comprimido
Please contact us as soon as possible if your production makes use of compressed gasses (flammable or nonflammable).
1.4.12 Voltage
All the Complex is 220V. We don´t provide voltage transformers.

The theatre is a versatile proscenium-style space with orchestra pit and proscenium available if necessary. It has a
maximum capacity of 500kg/m².
All dimensions to be checked on site prior to get-in.

We have 54 flybars on the stage. The system, JR Clancy Scene Control 500, allows for movement 7 flybar per
scene. Side and proscenium fly bars (L1, L2, L3, R1, R2, R3 and P1,P2,P3) cannot be used to scene change. The
standart speed of the 54 stages flybar is 16m/m and the maximum speed is 25m/m. The standart speed of the others
flybars is 7m/m and the maximum is 16m/m.

7.0 Dressing Rooms
Atention! All the dressing rooms are non-smoking.
Grande Sala
The dressing rooms are situated on the 3th level on the backstage. We have 4 dressing rooms equipped with table,
mirror & lights, sofás, wardrobes, chairs and bathrooms with shower, per each.
They have paging system.
Teatro de Câmara
All the dressing rooms are situated on the backstage, outside the theatre. There are 3 dressing rooms that can be use
for single or collective, equipped with table, mirror & lights, sofás, wardrobes, chairs and bathrooms with shower, per
