a data, a frota de aeronaves equipadas com o motor F100PW-229 já registrou mais de 963.000 horas de vôo em mais de
16 anos de serviço operacional.
Outra estrela do show, porém mais discreta : um Mirage F1E
modernizado pela “JV” ASTRAC. Sob esta união, um total de 27
Mirage F1CH e EH, agora designados Mirage F1EM VI –“Modernisé - Version Intégrale” (ou “Muhamad VI” em referência ao
rei de Marrocos) – serão modernizados. A aeronave modernizada recebe o novo radar Thales RDY-3 (RC400), um completo
“glass cockpit”, o pod de designação laser Damocles, um novo
sistema de auto-proteção, o central de navegação Sigma 95,
e armamento atualizado, incluindo os mísseis MBDA Mica e
a bomba-foguete Sagem AASM. O Comandante Mohammed
Moulinié, um experiente piloto de caça lotado na base aérea de Sidi Slimane, está entusiasmado com o “novo” Mirage
que, é agora comparável em muitos aspectos, avalia ele, com
o Mirage 2000-5 Mk.2 em termos de capacidades ofensivas.
Apesar de sua idade, e agraciado com uma elegante silhueta
e um pequeno RCS (Radar Cross Section), o Mirage F1 continua a ser um caça muito capaz, como o Northrop F-5E Tiger II,
ainda em serviço no Marrocos, que foi também modernizado
como F-5TIII com ajuda externa. O inventário de F-5 locais
compreende oito F-5A, dois treinadores F-5B, dois RF-5A, 23
caças F-5E e três F-5F de treinamento. Também atrairam a
atenção no aeroporto de Marrakech-Menara dois dos novíssimos Alenia C-27J Spartan e dois Bombardier 415, além de um
dos novos Hawker Beechcraft T-6C Texan II das FRA. u

Other star on show, but more discrete : a Mirage F1E modernised by ASTRAC, the joint-venture between Sagem and
Thales. Under this scheme a total of 27 Mirage F1CH and EH,
now designated Mirage F1EM VI for “Modernisé - Version Intégrale” (or “Muhamad VI” after the king of Morocco), are being
modernized. They now include a new Thales RDY-3 (RC400)
radar, a full glass cockpit, Damocles laser designation pod,
self-protection jammer, Sigma 95 INS, and updated armament, including MBDA Mica AAMs and Sagem AASM standoff rocket bomb. Commandant Mohammed Moulinié, a well
seasoned fighter pilot from Sidi Slimane AB, is enthusiastic
about the “new” Mirage which in many ways is now comparable, he reckons, with the Mirage 2000-5 Mk.2 in terms of offensive capacities. Despite its age, bestowed with a very sleek
silhouette and low radar cross section, the Mirage F1 remains
a very capable fighter, very much in line with the legacy
Northrop F-5E Tiger II, also still in service in Morocco after having been modernized, as F-5TIII, with foreign assistance. The
local F-5 inventory comprises: eight F-5As, two F-5B trainers,
two RF-5As, 23 F-5E fighters and three F-5F trainers.
Conspicuous at Marrakech-Menara airport were also two
of the FRA’s brand-new Alenia C-27J Spartans and two Bombardier 415 water-bombers, as well as one of the new Hawker
Beechcraft T-6C Texan II trainers. u
