PYP Exhibition On the 25th of March, 2008, The PYP group “In touch with the Arts” went on our first trip to ADID (Associacao para o Desenvolvimento Integral do Down). ADID is a place for people with Down syndrome to feel accepted in the world by acting in a play produced by a man named Leo. Here are some “quotes” from the people who went on the trip… “I was really touched by how they look up to Leo. He is like their angel or something...” (Jessica van den Brink) / “The trip was INCREDIBLE! The people felt special there…” (Julia Herzog) / “It was a great feeling to be there and see how important art is to them” (Stephanie Geller) / “I thought it was a fantastic experience to go to ADID and ask some questions…” (Sophia Frangoulidis) / I was really impressed at the way they act and the way they love their work…” (Camila Dacacche) / “I thought it was amazing, I also liked how creative and hard-working they were…” (Calu Malta) Sports 4 All Group PYP Exhibition Carina Uchida and Matheus Sodre For the PYP Exhibition, the Sports 4 All group, invited Thomas Kirsten to share his personal experiences racing in the Ironman Triathlon. He gave the Year 6 pupils a SUPER demonstration and motivational speech. We learned a lot about his sport and had an idea about how not to give up and believe in ourselves. He brought many types of equipment to show us (bikes, running shoes, trophies, wetsuits and race day foods). Thomas Kirsten proved to us how difficult and complicated it is to not only compete but also complete a triathlon. We thank him for spending his precious time with us and wish him luck in his future endeavors! But when announced it my mind started to go wild and I couldn't think what to think! After that day I learned that I can do whatever I put my mind to - never give up and you'll make it! Cirque du Soleil Pen pals A pen pal exchange organised by teachers from the Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria School and St Nicholas, was an a unique opportunity to become more open-minded and knowledgeable. In October a group of our students from Years 3-12 volunteered to establish contact via email, which allowed the pen pals to find out a little bit about each other before actually meeting. During a visit to St. Nicholas, the Alegria School pupils joined us for lunch and then participated in classes and Science week activities with their pen pals. St. Nicholas pupils’ visit to the Alegria School was an equally enjoyable experience. Meeting my pen pal was a wonderful experience. I got to know how it is to move around all over the world together with your school. It seems like its tiring to move cities and countries every seven months. Their school is very different from ours, the class is very mixed, and there are children from different age groups in the same class. But the biggest difference between our school and theirs is the number of students. Their school has only nine students whilst our school has several hundred students. (Isabela Januzzi Yr 8) It was an amazing and unforgettable experience. At first I didn’t know whether I would like my pen pal or not. I had imagined her in a totally different way. When we first met I didn’t know what to say, I was so excited. It was interesting because when she came to school she taught us a game she had learnt. She is a really sweet and polite girl. I really liked this idea and I would sure do it again. ( Anna Luiza Ruocco Yr 8) I enjoyed going to the Cirque du Soleil. It was an amazing opportunity to get to see how our pen pals of the Cirque study, to see their classrooms and their lunchroom. We had a great lunch with delicious food. We took many pictures with our pen pals and then went to see the backstage of the circus, where they leave the costumes and have their dressing rooms. We even got the chance to try some masks on which was hilarious. My pen pal and her best friend do contortion and they posed for us. We also could jump on a type of ‘jumpy floor’ [trampoline] and it was good fun to feel like acrobats … or not. They showed us a slide show of the cities they’ve been to. I loved going there and I don't want our pen pals to leave! (Yasmin Younes Yr 9) YEAR 6 VISITS THE CIRQUE DU SOLEIL FAIRY STORIES Ricardo Sanchez & Yannis Proença The Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to visit the Cirque du Soleil. There we met the Cirque cast and we had the opportunity to have a private tour of the grounds by Karl Sanft and his family (Kalei’s dad). We went backstage and saw the costumes, masks, wigs, training area, physical therapy rooms and dining hall. We spoke with the prop manager and he made a snow show just for us! We also had the chance to watch Mr. Karl Sanft’s act from the show! Our favourite part of the trip was learning how to juggle and do the basic spin with Mr. Sanft. We also met the sons and daughters of the artists and visited their school. We had a wonderful time! How many people can say they have been backstage at the Cirque du Soleil? NOT MANY!!! We are truly blessed. Year 2 Hanna and the Lost Wolf Julia Suplicy Once upon a time there was a loveing and adventurous girl named Hanna. She lived in a desert. One day Hanna met a lost wolf. The wolf went with Hanna to find a forest. So they found a forest. The wolf was very happy. The wolf thanked Hanna and dissappered into the darck forest happaly. The Sleepy Dragon and the Spy Man Eduardo Lyrio Once upon a time there was a crazy dragon. He was very sleepy. There was a spy man who was smart fast and bad. One day they went to a cave to meet. The dragon was too sleepy but the spy man did not let him sleep. The spy man pushed the dragon into a tub full of watar. The dragon did not know how to have a bath. So the dragon drank a lot of watar until he was dead. … more stories in next issue... FUTSAL RESULTS Quiz HOW DO YOU SAY...? English X Portuguenglish Here is your chance to get an R.O.A.!
