A word from our UK
Managers
Welcome to the second HomeAway UK Owner Summit. Following the success of the first HomeAway UK
Owner Summit in 2011 we intend to make this one
even better! Not only do we have more talks and
panel discussions for you to learn from but we also
have more opportunities for you to interact with
people from within different teams in HomeAway. In
the Rose Suite you will have the chance to speak to
experienced members of staff about Trust and Security, Search Engine Optimisation and Product development. In the Elgar room upstairs our Customer Services team are waiting for you to raise any queries about
your advertisements or accounts with either Owners
Direct or HomeAway.co.uk.
In turn we hope that we will have the chance to learn
from you and value all feedback about both of the
sites and our business. We want to learn how we can
best serve you as homeowners and are keen to find
out if there are any improvements we can make to
improve what we can do for you.
There will be plenty of opportunities for networking
with other home owners in the breaks, at lunch and
over drinks at the end of the day when we hope you
will also be able to learn from each other.
Above all we hope that you have an enjoyable day today and that you go home having learned more about
how to make the most from your holiday rental.

The Talks
This year we are running two tracks of talks because some of the talks from last year were
so well received we want new attendees to benefit from them. At the same time we do not
want attendees from last year to miss out on learning new things so there are options for
everyone!
Here are some brief details about all of the talks to help you decide which to attend. Most
of these talks will be filmed and available to watch online.

Our Speakers and Panellists
Petra Friedmann
Petra Friedmann has been the
Vice President of Europe for
HomeAway since July 2009. She
manages teams based in the U.K,
Germany and France and oversees the business operations of
Europe’s leading holiday rental
sites. A long time veteran of the travel industry, Petra
has invaluable online consumer experience having
served as Country Manager of France operations for
Opodo Limited. Prior to this, she served as a Managing Director of QXL France, a leading online auction
brand. Petra began her career in Germany creating
a travel agency specializing in discount flights and
launching Mosaic Travel, a tour operator before settling in France and joining Marmara, part of the TUI
group in 1992. She earned her doctorate in Politics
and Economics from the University of Bremen in
Germany.
Christine Karpinski
Christine is the author of How
to Rent Vacation Properties by
owner and Profit From Your Vacation Home Dream. Her books,
combined with her seminars and
media appearances have helped
thousands of people manage
and profit from their holiday homes. Christine owns
multiple properties and is often referred to as “The
Most Respected Voice in the Vacation Rental Industry”.
Christine will be talking about Optimising your Advert, Screening potential guests as well as taking part
in our panel discussion about Managing the cost of
your rental.
Andy Cockburn
Andy Cockburn is the Regional
Director for the UK and Ireland
and is responsible for overseeing the company’s two UK
businesses, HomeAway.co.uk
and OwnersDirect.co.uk. Andy
joined HomeAway in 2010 as
General Manager of OwnersDirect.co.uk. Prior to this
he founded and ran an online travel company focused
on facilitating group travel. Andy started his career as
a Strategy Consultant with Bain & Company, where
he advised companies across the retail and consumer
products sectors. He is a graduate of Cambridge University and has an MBA from INSEAD Business School
in France.
Today, Andy will be leading the panel discussion
about What Guests Want.
Erica Chang
Erica started at HomeAway in
2007 as Deputy to the Managing
Director of European Business.
In March 2008 she became the
General Manager of Owners
Direct just after it became part
of the HomeAway network. Erica
has a degree in Economics and an MBA. Her previous
employers include Net-a-porter.com and Deloitte.
Today Erica will be talking about the International
HomeAway sites.
David Prescod
David is the founder of the
consultancy Digital Marketing
Mentor. He has fifteen years experience working as a marketing
consultant, developing strategies and lecturing. David purchased his first overseas holiday
home in 2005 located in Barbados. Currently he uses
his experience to advise other holiday homeowners
to effectively market their properties. David has made

many valuable contributions to HomeAway.co.uk’s
online Owner Resources. Today he will be talking to
you about how to create your own email campaign as
well as taking part in the panel discussion ‘Managing
the cost of your rental.
Mark Davis
Since 2009 Mark has been the
head of SEO for the HomeAway
websites in Europe. For the 2
years prior to joining HomeAway, he was in charge of SEO for
eBay UK, and prior to that spent
6 years as the head of the search
program for Cisco Systems in San Jose, California. He
has worked in database development and internet
marketing for the last 20 years after graduating from
the University of California with a degree in toxicology & analytical chemistry. Mark has stayed in vacation
rentals in 5 countries and also has a rental property of
his own in Italy.
Ross McGowan
Ross started working for
HomeAway UK in 2003 as Sales
Manager for Holiday-Rentals.co.uk
and he is now Senior Manager for
EU Sales Operations. Prior to this
he was a Business Development
Manager for Kimball International.
Ross is one of our MC’s for the day.
Andy Edwards
Andy is the Head of Customer
Services for Owners Direct and
joined the company in 2004 when
he was just 1 of 3 employees! Prior
to this Andy worked for Britannic
Money. Andy has stayed at over 10
holiday homes from the
HomeAway network with his family!
Andy is one of our MC’s for the day.
Stewart Black
Stewart has worked as Sales Director for HomeAway.co.uk since
2010. Previously he spent over
six years managing sales teams
for various national property
portals including Prime Location,
FindaProperty and was head of
sales at fish4homes from 2008 – 2009. Prior to this,
Stewart had 18 years experience working for large
corporate estate agents such as Countrywide and
Halifax Property Services and became a partner in his
own firm in 1999.
Today Stewart will be chair of our panel discussion on
managing the cost of your rental.
Sarah Chambers
Sarah is brand communications
manager for the UK and has
worked at HomeAway for 5 years.
She started as PR manager and
still continues to oversee PR activities as well as broader brand
marketing campaigns incorporating online, print and social media. Prior to joining
HomeAway, Sarah was press officer at Air France for
almost two years, and prior to that worked in technology PR.
Sarah holds a BA(Hons) in French and Business from
the University of Brighton, speaks fluent French and
lived in Paris for one year as part of her studies. She is
also an avid traveller in her spare time.
Today Sarah will be leading our panel discussion
about Social Media.
Catherine Warrilow
Catherine is the Director of Publicity Oxford and has 10 years PR
and marketing experience. Specialising in consumer PR within
the travel, leisure and lifestyle
sectors, Catherine has excellent
relationships with the national
and regional press as well as specialist travel publications. As well as offering traditional PR services, the

Helen Harrison
Anca Popa
Anca is the PR Assistant for
HomeAway.co.uk and is responsible for all press office activities.
She also manages the company’s
social media profiles, including
Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.
Anca joined HomeAway.co.uk in
2009 as PR Intern. Prior to this, she did two PR internships, including one for Lewis PR, a global communication agency specialising in Digital, Technology and
Consumer PR. Anca has an MA in Communication
from the University of Westminster, London, as well as
a BA in PR and Communication from the University of
Bucharest, Romania.
Today Anca will be taking part in our panel discussion
about Social Media.
Vanessa Warwick
Vanessa Warwick is a former
TV presenter, turned professional Landlord, consultant,
and speaker. Along with her
husband Nick Tadd, she founded
Property Tribes, which is now the
U.K.’s busiest on-line Landlord
and investor community. Vanessa and Nick advocate
the use of technology, digital and social communications in property, and speak at events all over the U.K.
as well as consulting for the BBC on property. They invest mainly in flats in London and family houses in the
South East and are also big advocates of holiday lets.
Judith Abraham
Judith Abraham MBA is an Australian/British business woman
and the creator of The LuxPod
Apartments, an international
vacation holiday rentals group of
luxurious, high tech apartments.
She is an expert consultant in
strategic business and strategic marketing and creates
Helen lives in Italy with her family and owns a farmhouse and
holiday apartments near Perugia, Umbria. Having worked for
multinational companies she has
put this experience into practice
when running her successful
holiday rentals business.
Helen will be taking part in our panel discussion
about What Guests Want.
Antonio Bortolotti
Globetrotting traveler, entrepreneur, successful holiday rental
owner of CasaTeulada.com and
author of acclaimed italian book

speak out)” (TEA, 2006), “A different point of view tales of a journey in search for the self” (Lulu, 2006),

pretty innovative blog featuring delightful vacation

Moira Brown
Moira and her husband purchased and renovated a Trullo in
Italy in 2006 and started renting it to holidaymakers in 2009.
Having previously worked as
a banker, she applies this approach to managing her holiday
home. Moira will be taking part in our panel discussion about Managing the cost of your rental property.
