publication, nearly a quarter of whom are based in Brussels. They are led by Frank Montag, a six-time
winner of WWL's Competition Lawyer of the Year Award (as the most highly nominated individual in the

according to sources there is "nobody better for aviation-related competition work". Andreas von Bonin
was repeatedly recommended for the "undeniable quality" of his state aid practice and Thomas Wessely
garnered praise for his merger control, contentious and dominance related work. Rafique Bachour stands
out for the quality of his work on behalf of multinational clients in a range of industries. “He is
absolutely excellent,” according to one interviewee who dubs him “the future of Freshfields”. In London, Deirdre Trapp is "head and shoulders above the rest", and interviewees praised her UK and
EU-related expertise. Simon Priddis’ past experience at the UK regulator helps to make him a
"tremendously effective" asset to his clients. Jon Lawrence is a major player in the UK competition scene
and "is able to find solutions that others just don't see", and David Aitman is "client-oriented" and "easy
to deal with", and recognised for his ability to deal effectively with regulatory agencies. Rod Carlton is
recognised across the market for the quality of his work and of his client list, and James Aitken is
"tremendously impressive" and admired for his calm demeanour, collaborative approach and
insightful advice. Alastair Chapman is commercially minded and "immaculately skilled", and Mark Sansom
garnered praise both for his "formidable" contentious practice and his "superb" advice to clients.
The firm is very strong in Germany. Martin Klusmann was praised as "extremely responsive", and his
compliance-related expertise is much in demand; meanwhile Thomas Lübbig is considered one of the
foremost competition litigators in the country. Helmut Bergmann has a client list that is "second to none"
and is internationally recognised for the quality of his work in this sector, and Tobias Klose is a "very
sophisticated thinker" and a highly rated advocate before EU and domestic regulators and courts. Peter
Niggemann was commended to researchers as proactive and commercially aware, while “brilliant
operator” Burkhard Richter is praised for his merger control and cartel work, as well as for his "insightful"
writing in this area. Michael Esser is praised for his German and EU competition expertise, particularly in
the media and telecoms sectors, and Uta Itzen is deemed a "diligent, focused and extremely intelligent"
merger control and cartels specialist. Frank Röhling is highly praised for his work on German, French and
EU competition law, and Gerhard Wiedemann is an eminent figure, recognised as a thought leader by his
local peers.
The firm’s European delegation extends to four further countries. Jérôme Philippe is one of France's
leading experts, and impresses clients with his dual qualification as both lawyer and economist, while
in Italy Tommaso Salonico is "steeped in competition knowledge" having previously worked at the
regulator, and is also a renowned academic in this field. Multiple interviewees picked out Gian Luca
Zampa as someone they enjoy working with, and clients say he "really understands how the local law
works". The “excellent” Winfred Knibbeler is one of the Netherlands' highest-profile cartel and dominance
experts; he is listed alongside Onno Brouwer, a "very impressive operator” known across Europe for his
strategic planning and persuasive litigation skills. Francisco Cantos “is my counsel of choice whenever I
have a Spanish matter", said one impressed interviewee, while the breadth of Álvaro Iza’s expertise is
"incredibly comprehensive" and he is very highly rated by his clients.
Alexander Viktorov was praised to researchers as "magnificent" and is one of the leading experts in Russia,
while the high-profile Ninette Dodoo is similarly well regarded in China; indeed, his reputation is strong
throughout Asia. Akinori Uesugi is extremely well respected in the Japanese market as a former Secretary
General of the Fair Trade Commission. Alastair Mordaunt is a very well-respected former director of a
dedicated competition enforcement team at the UK’s Office of Fair Trading, and a recent high-profile
recruit to the firm’s office in Hong Kong. Four nominees are selected in the US. Paul Yde was described
to researchers as a "sensational lawyer", recognised for his skilful representation before the DOJ, FTC
and State Attorneys General. Robert Schlossberg is renowned throughout the US and beyond as one of the
leading practitioners in the field. Terry Calvani’s unrivalled expertise and background in government is a
major asset to the firm and its clients, and Thomas Ensign is viewed as a "very fine lawyer" who received
recommendations from across a wide range of industry sectors.
Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton sees 23 of its lawyers selected for inclusion, including some of the
practice area’s foremost exponents worldwide. Nicholas Levy is “as good as it gets”, and has worked

on some of the highest-profile cases of recent years. He is “unbelievably skilled in all facets of the law”,
and the quality of his published works was also commented upon to researchers. Antoine Winckler is a
“leader of the profession” and commended as a pre-eminent authority on cartel matters, while
Francisco-Enrique González Díaz is a “renowned expert” in both European and Spanish competition
law. Robbert Snelders is “tremendously well respected” for merger control, cartel and abuse of
dominance investigations, as well as for his dispute resolution skills across a range of forums. Romano
Subiotto QC is “a pleasure to work alongside”, and Thomas Graf is much in demand for his
competition, regulatory and IP work. Mark Leddy is the managing partner of the firm and divides his
time between the Washington DC and New York offices. He is said to be “one of the finest antitrust
lawyers in the US”, a view borne out by the overall number of votes he received, and he has worked on
some of the most high profile cases of recent years. George Cary’s merger expertise and “hugely
impressive” antitrust litigation abilities were also commended to researchers. Leah Brannon is a
“spectacular antitrust litigator”, while Mark Nelson impressed our sources with his work on US and EU
competition matters. The firm is very strong in Italy with five nominees selected, led by the “legendary”
Mario Siragusa. Dirk Schroeder and Romina Polley in Cologne are both very highly rated, as is François
Brunet in Paris. Linklaters earns 21 places in this year’s edition across 10 countries. Gerwin Van Gerven is a “big name”
and “one of the stars in this sector worldwide”, with market-leading experience that encompasses
merger control, abuse complaints, anti-cartel enforcement and investigations. Jonas Koponen, global
head of the practice, is “everything you could possibly want from a competition lawyer”. Sir
Christopher Bellamy QC is of counsel to the London office and universally respected for his work in this
field: he set up what is now the Competition Appeal Tribunal and was president from 1999 to 2007.
Simon Pritchard is one of the most highly rated lawyers in the City, and internationally renowned for
his UK and EU merger control and antitrust practice. Carsten Grave is based in Düsseldorf and is one of
the foremost experts in our German research, while Anne Wachsmann holds a similarly elevated
position in France. The firm’s China practice is represented for the first time with the inclusion of the
“outstanding” Fay Zhou, and Jeffrey Schmidt is well known in the Washington DC market. He
previously served as the director of the Bureau of Competition of the US Federal Trade Commission
and "did a very nice job on some complex pharma deals we worked on".
Jones Day increases its presence in this year’s edition to 21 listings, with nearly half of these based in
the US. Joe Sims is of counsel to the DC office and revered as a “grandee” by his fellow practitioners.
Kathryn Fenton is a “major industry player” and a former chair of the American Bar Association section
of antitrust law; her representative clients include Bayer, Procter & Gamble and Chevron. David Wales
has a great reputation amongst his peers, who describe him as "very experienced, thoughtful, effective
and likeable." In Brussels, Bernard Amory “should be on any list of the best” and Thomas Jestaedt is
“one of Europe’s foremost cartel lawyers” as well as regular competition law adviser to SAP. Philipp
Werner is “one of the leaders of the new generation of competition experts”. Johannes Zöttl is
described as a “brilliant operator” in Germany, and Eric Morgan de Rivery is similarly well regarded in
Paris.
Nineteen nominees are selected from Allen & Overy, hailing from 12 countries. Michael Reynolds in
Brussels is one of the most widely recognised names in the market worldwide and a "terrific
ambassador for the firm and for the practice of law". Dirk Arts is "incredibly bright" and was fêted for his
cartel and merger control work, while Vanessa Turner is internationally recognised for the breadth of her
experience that includes prestigious in-house and authority positions. Practitioners spoke highly of
Jürgen Schindler; “he is a future leader of the profession, if he isn't one already" according to impressed
peers. Philip Mansfield in London is a top merger lawyer, and also well regarded for his cartels expertise,
while respondents spoke well of Antonio Bavasso, asserting that "you want him on your side" for
behavioural investigations and antitrust litigation. Mark Friend is "one of the best and the brightest", and
his energy sector knowledge particularly impressed our sources. Three nominees are selected in the
Netherlands. Paul Glazener is "absolutely my first choice for complex regulatory issues", while Tom
Ottervanger is "incredibly learned and knowledgeable" and an "eminent figure in the Dutch competition

bar". Kees Schillemans scores highly – "I am always impressed by him,” said one interviewee – and his
reputation as a leading figure in the Dutch bar continues to grow. The firm is strong throughout
Europe. Florence Ninane is excellent for both French and EU competition law and highly recommended by
energy clients, and Ellen Braun in Germany was commended to researchers as "extremely client-friendly"
and "very skilled". Tibor Szanto is an impressive expert with valuable experience from working at the
local regulator in Hungary, while Marta Sendrowicz is a leading expert across the full range of Polish
competition law. Valentin Berea in Romania is very well regarded by his peers and praised for his "superb
insight", while Antonio Martínez in Spain is a "superb merger control lawyer" who also stands out for his
private competition expertise. François Renard in Beijing is one of Asia's leading experts and has "very
valuable" experience with the Chinese regulator, while Peter McDonald in Australia was very highly
praised for the quality of his work across a range of industries; according to sources, "Clients love him."
Elaine Johnston gives the firm a valuable presence in the US as a very highly rated antitrust litigator with a
strong profile in New York.
Gibson Dunn & Crutcher sees 16 of its lawyers selected. Gary Spratling is one of the pre-eminent
experts in the field worldwide and co-chairs the firm’s antitrust and trade regulation practice group.
Daniel Swanson in California is an “incredible litigator”, while Scott Hammond also co-chairs the group
from DC and is “spectacular in all that he does”. Jarrett Arp is praised as "very skilful" and "totally
effective", and is much respected by his peers in DC. David Wood in Brussels is an “absolute star” for all
types of competition work, including cartels, merger control, abuse of dominance and private
enforcements. Peter Alexiadis is partner-in-charge of the Brussels office and “knows everything there is
to know about telecoms law”. Ali Nikpay heads the competition and antitrust practice in London and is
widely respected for his work both in private practice and at the regulator – he was previously the
senior director for cartels and criminal enforcement at the UK competition authority. Fifteen lawyers from Clifford Chance appear in the following pages. Thomas Vinje in Brussels “has done
great work on competition and data”, and is regarded as “one of the foremost authorities in the tech
space”. He is joined by Tony Reeves, a “thoughtful, clever and effective lawyer” known for his merger,
abuse of market power and cartel expertise. In the UK, the “always-effective” Alex Nourry heads the
London antitrust practice. Elizabeth Morony leads the global antitrust litigation group and is “without
question one of the finest litigators in the field”, while Greg Olsen was repeatedly commended to
researchers as “a joy to work with”. The firm’s representation extends to nine countries in this edition,
with two nominees selected in France, Germany and Russia. Dave Poddar is one of the leading experts
in Australia, and Miguel Odriozola is similarly well regarded in Spain.
Latham & Watkins has 15 nominees selected in this edition and a particularly strong US presence.
Abbott (Tad) Lipsky is internationally recognised for his qualities across all disciplines and for his
background in government and in-house as former chief antitrust lawyer for The Coca-Cola Company.
Daniel Wall has litigated more than 80 antitrust cases and advised on 50 mergers in the antitrust
process, while Michael Egge stands out for his work on multi-jurisdictional competition matters. Peggy
Zwisler is very highly respected in the market; she was described as "phenomenal" and "top of the
marquee". John Kallaugher is strongly recommended in London, and five further nominees are based
in Brussels. Sven Völcker was described by one interviewee as “probably the best lawyer I have worked
with" and is fêted for his EU and German competition practice. He is joined by the “fantastic” Lars
Kjølbye, praise for his work across a wide range of industries.
Herbert Smith Freehills garners 13 listings this year. Kyriakos Fountoukakos in Brussels is a "trusted
adviser" to his clients and places among the highest-placed nominees in our research. His background
includes experience working at the European Commission in the Directorate General for Competition’s
Merger Task Force. Craig Pouncey is a longstanding leader in Belgium, recognised for his adept handling
of complex European and UK cases. In England, Kim Dietzel is regarded as a “clever and strategic
operator", praised for her cartels and litigation practice, and Stephen Wisking is equally highly rated for
both his contentious and non-contentious work in this sector and said to be a "very impressive

operator". James Quinney is "creative and solutions-driven" and much in demand as a result, while Sergio
Sorinas “runs a fantastic Paris practice" according to our sources.
Hogan Lovells also scores 13 listings in this edition. Janet McDavid is one of the leading practitioners in
the field worldwide and among its most highly nominated. She was universally praised in our research,
both for her “incredible legal ability” as well as for her “commercial understanding and exceptional
ability to communicate”. In New York, Rachel Brandenburger’s background in private practice and
government make her unique in the field, and she "knows everything there is to know about
competition law". Suyong Kim in London is “always impressive”, and Adrian Emch in Beijing is one of
China’s foremost specialists.
White & Case performs well once again this year with 11 nominees selected, including four in Brussels.
Mark Powell is “world-class in all aspects of his practice”, and he appears alongside the “formidable”
James Killick. Jacquelyn MacLennan is "top-drawer for all types of EU regulatory law", while Assimakis
Komninos is a foremost authority on Greek competition law, and also strongly recommended for his EU
expertise. In the US, J Mark Gidley is recognised as an "outstanding lawyer who heads up a tremendous
team" and he is selected alongside highly rated litigator Robert Milne, who was described as "difficult to
beat, both literally and metaphorically" for pharma-related work in particular. Further nominees in
Germany, Russia, Hungary and Mexico underline the breadth of the firm’s expertise in this sector.
Samantha Mobley leads the global antitrust and competition practice group at Baker & McKenzie and
is “quite brilliant” according to one interviewee, who states: “She is incredibly clever and I always learn
something from working with her.” In Brussels, Fiona Carlin chairs the firm’s European competition law
practice and stands out as one of the most highly rated lawyers in the market, while Gavin Bushell
stands out for his competition, state aid and aviation work in particular. Christian Horstkotte in Germany is
praised for his "rigorous and effective" representation of clients in cartel cases before domestic and EU
authorities and courts. Roxane Busey stands out as one of the leading experts in Chicago, and the firm
has further skilled nominees in Hungary, South Africa, Argentina and the Czech Republic.
Ten nominees are selected from Sidley Austin, evenly divided between Brussels and the US. In the
former, Stephen Kinsella OBE was described to researchers as "one of the best in Brussels, indeed one of
the best in the world", a verdict borne out by his standing in our research. Kristina Nordlander is "just
fantastic" and ranks in the very top tier of the Brussels competition bar, while Jacques Bourgeois was a
"major addition to the firm" when he joined in 2015, when Sidley gained "one of the world's foremost
competition and trade experts". Stephen Spinks is "always responsive and absolutely on top of all the
issues – his attention to detail is incredible" and Ken Daly “is doing great work" according to our
interviewees. "I would look to hire him in a heartbeat," says one. In the US, William Blumenthal is
an"eminent figure" in the market with "unassailable credentials", and he is joined by Kenneth Glazer: a
"thoughtful and insightful" lawyer who impresses clients and peers alike with the quality of his work.
Joel Mitnick impresses all who work with him, and is described as "extremely professional and immensely
determined". David Giardina is rated as a "compelling" litigator and is one of Chicago's foremost experts,
and John Treece is an experienced and successful antitrust trial lawyer whose life sciences related
expertise particularly impressed our interviewees.
The nine nominees from Covington & Burling include one of the most highly nominated individuals in
our research overall. Deborah Garza is praised as "thoughtful, highly experienced and careful" and she
is listed alongside Thomas Barnett, who is renowned for his criminal antitrust enforcement work.
Johan Ysewyn leads the firm’s trio of Brussels -based nominees and is very highly rated by clients and
peers alike.
Susan Ning of King & Wood Mallesons is internationally recognised as a worldwide leader on China
related competition matters, and is one of nine nominees selected from the firm. Stephen Kon in
London is said to be a "great pioneer" and a “technically excellent, highly commercial and expert with
dealing with regulators". Sharon Henrick is one of four well-regarded nominees in Australia,
underlining the firm’s eminence in this market.

Morrison & Foerster performs well with four nominees in the US complemented by further inclusions in
Japan and Brussels. Roxann Henry is “the best there is at what she does" and is universally respected by
the US bar, while David Meyer is "undeniably impressive" and highly rated "by all who see his work". Tom
McQuail in Brussels is vastly experienced and similarly effective, his merger control work is "second to
none", while in Japan Kei Amemiya received votes from sources internationally for the quality of his work
across the full breadth of competition matters, and Kentaro Hirayama "always responds quickly and gets
to the root of the problem, giving a clear answer that can be understood by the business".
Slaughter and May also sees seven nominees selected this year. John Boyce in Brussels is "one of the key
people in the practice of competition law worldwide", and he is listed alongside Anna Lyle-Smythe who
was praised for her "extensive experience in merger control cases and is a great co-counsel". Claire Jeffs
is a high-profile and universally respected lawyer and "one of the leading lights in London". She is
joined by Philippe Chappatte, internationally recognised for his high-profile competition work and leader
of the firm’s "outstanding" global practice. Bertrand Louveaux “gets straight to the key points but is willing
to provide commercial context to his views", and Isabel Taylor is "always excellent", with her regulatory
practice in particular very highly regarded. Natalie Yeung is among the standout lawyers in Hong Kong
and "one of the world's foremost experts” on local competition legislation.
Paul Denis is one of seven nominees from Dechert and, according to an interviewee, “one of the finest
merger experts I have ever seen”. He is listed alongside one of the sector’s leading litigators in Paul
Friedman, as well as further high-profile nominees in New York and Paris.
Hengeler Mueller is one of Europe’s pre-eminent competition firms with six nominees selected in this
edition. Hans-Jörg Niemeyer is based in Brussels and is a very well-respected member of the competition
bar. He is listed alongside the “absolutely fantastic” Markus Röhrig, who one source "would choose every
time". In Germany, Jochen Burrichter is recognised for his vast experience and tremendous insight in this
area, while Alf-Henrik Bischke is rated as a first-class cartels and merger control specialist. Thorsten Mäger
was commended to researchers for the quality of his judgement and advice to clients, and Christoph
Stadler is a pre-eminent figure in the German market and very highly rated by our sources.
Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz in New York has six very highly rated nominees selected. Ilene Knable Gotts
was described as "absolutely world-class" and is among the most highly regarded nominees in our
research overall. She is joined by Michael Byowitz, a "real ambassador for the practice area" who
impresses our contacts for the quality of his work and for his speaking in this sector. David Schwartz has
an "encyclopaedic knowledge of competition law and is able to apply it in a commercial way", while
Damian Didden is "pragmatic, timely and insightful – I couldn't ask for more". Joseph Larson is recognised
as an "invaluable ally to his merger clients" and Nelson Fitts is a "clever and thoughtful young antitrust
lawyer".
Shearman & Sterling is another firm with six well-respected nominees to our research. In Brussels,
"there is no-one better in the tech space" than Trevor Soames, and his high-profile work for Microsoft and
Samsung Electronics is widely admired across our global research. Stephen Mavroghenis heads the "worldclass competition practice" and is also among the most highly recommended lawyers in our EU
research. Miguel Rato “is making some real waves in Brussels" and draws admiring comment from clients
and peers in Europe and beyond. Christopher Bright in London "combines tremendous regulatory insight
with a first rate commercial understanding", while in the US Beau Buffier is a "smart, careful and very
effective antitrust lawyer" and Wayne Dale Collins was described by one interviewee as "the best merger
lawyer in America", and was also characterised as a "deep thinker and an aggressive advocate for his
client".
Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg is one of the leading firms in Canada for this work, and sees six
nominees selected. George Addy is a "very eminent figure " and a former head of the Canadian
Competition Bureau and universally respected, while Anita Banicevic "is very skilled in all that she does"
and earned praise for her work across a wide range of industries. John Bodrug “manages to combine a
very broad experience with a depth of understanding across the board that never ceases to impress"

our sources, while Adam Fanaki is "absolutely first-class" and was spoken of in universally glowing terms
by all interviewees, including one who says, "I just love working with him." Mark Katz is a "key member
of a hugely impressive team” and was commended to researchers as a "trailblazer", while Elisa Kearney
is very well known for her work on behalf of some of the biggest clients in the market, and is "tough to
beat in all senses".
Six nominees also appear from Blake Cassels & Graydon, including Brian Facey, one of the most highly
recommended lawyers in North America and a "very bright, experienced and effective antitrust
lawyer". Jason Gudofsky “stands comparison with any lawyer in the country”, and Robert Kwinter was

Stikeman Elliott is home to four well-respected nominees. Paul Collins has an excellent reputation in
Canada for his work at the regulator, as well as for his private practice. Lawson Hunter "knows all there is
to know about Canadian competition law", while Susan Hutton is regarded as supremely well qualified
and "always of the highest quality". Katherine Kay is an "accomplished and tenacious" litigator who
"impresses all who see her work".
Osler Hoskin & Harcourt is another highly rated Canadian firm. Peter Franklyn is the counsel of choice for
some of the world's leading corporations and is among the country’s leading practitioners. Peter Glossop
is praised for his extensive experience, "clear strategic vision" and high levels of client service, while
Michelle Lally chairs the "spectacular" competition group and is a leading figure in the market.
At Torys, Dany Assaf is a "real star" who was praised for his work on behalf of clients, both domestic and
international, across a range of issues. Omar Wakil is a "superlative lawyer", and the quality of his writing
on this subject was also acknowledged.
Subrata Bhattacharjee at Borden Ladner Gervais is very popular with clients and peers alike and is among
the most highly nominated experts in Canada.
Van Bael & Bellis is one of the leading competition firms in Brussels. Jean-François Bellis “is someone we
all look up to", report interviewees. "They don't come any better than him.” Porter Elliott is a "very
experienced competition partner" who impresses clients and peers alike, while David Hull is described by
one source as "one of the best pharma-related competition lawyers I have ever come across". Andrzej
Kmiecik is commended for his high-profile merger control and cartel work, and is also recognised as the
"go-to guy" for pharma and automotive clients. Kris van Hove’s "advice is very precise and credible
because it is based on his deep knowledge and experience in the area".
O’Melveny & Myers’ five nominees are split between the US and Brussels. In the former, Richard Parker in
Washington DC places among the most highly recommended litigators in the US overall, and is said to
be "highly effective" and "great to watch". Michael Tubach scores very highly in this edition, and is
recognised for the quality of his antitrust and criminal work especially where they overlap. Kenneth
O'Rourke is one of California's foremost litigators, praised for both his competition and IP expertise. In
Brussels, Riccardo Celli is a mainstay of the bar who "always thinks several steps ahead"; meanwhile
Christian Riis Madsen is "building a real reputation for himself" and is viewed as a "real star" by his fellow
practitioners in Brussels and beyond.
The five lawyers selected from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett includes former general counsel of the FTC
and the director of its Bureau of Competition, Kevin Arquit. Based in New York, he was described by
one interviewee as “the best of the best”. He is joined by highly rated colleagues in Washington and
London, where David Vann is a "smart effective competition lawyer ".

Roschier scores very highly in Scandinavia. Christian Wik is described as "simply outstanding" and is
among the most highly rated experts in Europe. Kristian Hugmark is also highly regarded. "I find him to be
excellent," said one interviewee. "Always completely prepared and clearly understands our business".
Niko Hukkinen is picked out as "very bright" and "fantastic to work with", and he is listed alongside Lars
Johansson who is widely regarded as one of Sweden's finest lawyers in this field and praised for his work
across the full spectrum of competition law.
Also in Sweden, Johan Carle at Mannheimer Swartling is "superb" for merger control and dominance
work according to multiple sources both domestic and international. Tommy Pettersson is a tremendous

The US is home to some of the world’s leading experts. Stephen Axinn of Axinn Veltrop & Harkrider is a "legendary figure", universally respected throughout the country, while his colleague John DeQ Briggs is

Percy Billimoria of AZB & Partners is among the most highly regarded experts in our India research, where

presentation to business) and gave us comfort when handling our case". Anand Pathak of P&A Law
Offices is one of the masterminds of Indian competition law. Suchitra Chitale of Chitale & Chitale Partners

In Japan, five nominees are selected from Mori Hamada & Matsumoto. Kenji Ito is one of the most highly

Our research into the US market for plaintiff-side specialists in this sector picks out 101 individuals.
Boies Schiller & Flexner is the leading firm with eight nominees selected. Chairman of the firm David
Boies was described as "the biggest name and the best", and his reputation for excellence extends
across the globe. William Isaacson is renowned throughout the market for the quality of his litigation
practice, and Donald Flexner is an “absolute giant of the antitrust bar”. The “incomparable” James
Denvir III also stands out from the field.
Stephen Susman of Susman Godfrey is one of the most successful plaintiff’s lawyers in history, and
leads a contingent of five nominees from his firm. Barry Barnett is “magic in the courtroom”, and Marc
Seltzer also stands out in terms of the number of recommendations he received.
Berger & Montague also sees five of its lawyers selected. Eric Cramer stands out as a “trailblazer for the
plaintiffs bar”. Laddie Montague Jr is president of the firm and the chairman of the antitrust
department and, according to one interviewee, “someone we all look up to”.
Stephen Cannon is chairman of Constantine Cannon and one of five nominees from this “first class

Kellogg Huber Hansen Todd Evans & Figel also appears five times in this section. Michael Nemelka is
