Research interests
Investigation of the influence of stress on cognitive functioning in trauma-related disorders
such as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD) using behavioral, neuropsychological, psychophysiological, and neuroimaging
methods (task-related and resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging).
 The impact of dissociation on amygdala activity and amygdala functional connectivity
during an Emotional Working Memory Task in BPD and PTSD.
 The neural correlates of emotional working memory performance in patients with complex
PTSD (after interpersonal violence during childhood) before and after therapy (DBTPTSD therapy versus Cognitive Processing Therapy) (part of the RELEASE project).
 The effect of an Emotional Working Memory Training on emotion regulation in BPD
(collaboration project with Dr. Tim Dalglesh and Dr. Susanne Schweitzer, Cognition and
Brain Sciences Unit, Cambridge, UK; PhD project of Julia-Caroline Walther).
 The impact of dissociative states on time perception, body perception, and emotional
working memory in PTSD (collaboration project with Prof. Ruth Lanius, University of
Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada).
 The impact of stress on different components of impulsivity in BPD and adult Attention
Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (part of the Clinical Research Unit (KFO 256)).
 The impact of stress on behavioral and self-reported aggression in female and male
patients with BPD (PhD project of Sylvia Cackowski).
