Last year, Everton beat Arsenal 3-2 after extra time to lift the trophy in a thrilling Final at The City Ground in front of over 17,000 fans. It is hoped the match, taking place on Saturday 21 May, will attract the best ever attendance for a domestic women’s game in England. A crowd of 29,092 watched England’s victory against Finland at The City of Manchester Stadium in 2005 and this is still a record for a women’s match in England. The Ricoh Arena has a capacity of 32,609 and this will be the first time that The FA Women’s Cup Final has taken place at the stadium. The 2011 Final will be the fifth one played under the sponsorship of E.ON and forms one part of a wider partnership the energy company has with The FA. E.ON also sponsor The FA Cup and The FA Youth Cup. Sue Hough, Chair of The FA Women’s Committee, said: “We are very pleased to be taking this year’s Final to The Ricoh Arena for the first time. It is a fantastic stadium with brilliant facilities and a proven track record in hosting matches with The FA. We are delighted to be working with them on the 2011 Final. We hope fans, families and teams from across the region, and across the country as a whole, will help us set a new record Cup Final attendance this coming May in Coventry. “The 2011 Final will follow the launch of The FA WSL, our brand new summer league for women’s football. We also have the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final at Fulham’s Craven Cottage at the end of May and then our England Women’s team will travel to Germany for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in what will be a massive and exciting year for women’s football in this country.” FEMALE FOOTBALL FEVER PAGE 5 PAGE 6 WSL fixtures confirmed The first half of the fixture list for the inaugural FA WSL season has been confirmed, with the new league kicking off on Thursday 14 April 2011.
