“Yes, in the first chicane Romain tried to overtake a slow Porsche and it’s
actually a first-gear corner, so both of them were going very slowly. He moved
off the ideal line and there on the outside there’s next to no grip and he went

into to the tyre wall. Despite that cushion, he badly damaged the right side of
the car, especially the front right, but then got out and did precisely what we
practice with the lads, that is if at all possible to get back to the pits. However,
to do that you have to clear away everything from the front that in any way
could rub into or obstruct the tyres. He put in a really heroic effort to do that
and then got back into the car and brought it home and we then got it going
properly again.”

managed move to back up to fourth position. At the moment it’s looking very

“Naturally we’re delighted. And the fact that in the end we’ve got the e-tron
quattros in first and second, then also one of the Ultras and that the fourth
Ultra too had a chance to be very well placed right up to the last just goes to
show the team’s overall strength and that Audi Sport and its team and
everyone involved with Joest have managed once again to have us come out
on top in a very difficult race.”

wonderfully with what we’ve demonstrated in the past: the first people with
petrol injection, the first to have brought a diesel here and to ever have won

‘When is it finally going to be 3 o’clock?’ Yes, it’s really fantastic!”

“It’s naturally special, for sure. Because we’ve had the privilege of being able
to help develop and drive this system as pioneers, and that was certainly very
special. And to win here at our first attempt – I don’t think you can do much
better than that. A fabulous feeling! Of course, a lot of people expected us to
be fast in the e-tron quattro, but you’ve got to actually finish the race, too, and
it’s great that everything worked so well!”

„Das ist schon ein tolles Gefühl! Wir sind eben Rennfahrer und wollen immer
erster sein. Wenn das klappt, freut man sich natürlich. Es war ein guter Tag,
wir konnten unser volles Programm durchziehen, verschiedene Reifen testen.
Dann gab mir Leena einen neuen Satz Reifen und ich konnte bei freier
Strecke eine Qualirunde fahren. Ich habe zwar nicht alle Sektoren perfekt
hingekriegt, aber wir können zufrieden sein. Das ist auch für die Mechaniker
eine tolle Belohnung. Die haben so hart gearbeitet, die ganze Nacht das Auto
umgebaut und eigentlich das ganze Jahr geschuftet, um dieses tolle Auto hier
fertig zu kriegen.“

„Das war echt verrückt! 2010 waren wir schon alle zusammen auf dem
Podium, letztes Jahr dieses großartige Rennen, bei dem wir leider unsere
Kameraden auf dem Podium vermisst haben, aber dieses Jahr sind wir wieder
alle zusammen dort oben. Das ist so großartig! Ich bin so glücklich und kann
es noch gar nicht fassen, dass wir zweimal hintereinander gewonnen haben.
Super! Besonders die Duelle mit Tom, Allan und Dindo – die sind Legenden
hier! Wir sind die jungen Wilden und konnten uns mit denen messen, das war
einfach großartig!”

„Das ist so wichtig, gerade für Audi. Einer der Fahrer dieses Autos zu sein,
des ersten Hybridautos. Da wird man Teil einer Legende und das ist

wir wohl erst so richtig schätzen können, wenn wir alt und zahnlos sind, keine

„Es ist fantastisch. Das zweite Jahr in Folge zu gewinnen kam doch
unerwartet. Einmal in Le Mans zu gewinnen ist schon etwas besonderes, aber

so schnell wieder zu gewinnen, das ist unglaublich. Es ist großartig zu diesem
Team zu gehören. Ben, Marcel und ich sind gute Freunde und wir haben
großes Vertrauen zu unseren Mechanikern. Der Sieg letztes Jahr gab uns viel
Selbstvertrauen und wir haben sehr hart an diesem neuen Auto gearbeitet. Es
war eine große Herausforderung für Audi hier mit 4 Autos anzutreten und ich
muss sagen, der e-tron quattro fährt sich fantastisch. Die extra Power, die
neue Technologie – es ist cool als Fahrer darin involviert zu sein und ein
Stück feinster Ingenieursarbeit ans Limit zu pushen. Das ist wirklich
fantastisch.“
