things must be dealt with. This brochure will help you to take
care of the necessary formalities without delay and to avoid
bureaucracy. Many forms can also be downloaded from the
internet to save valuable time which can be used to get to
know Offenbach and the people living there.

Getting off to a good Start – in the Citizens‘ Advice Bureau
Many things need to be dealt with before you really feel at home in a new city. The
Offenbach Citizens’ Advice Bureau makes things easier. It offers a wide range of services from a single source. You can register your new flat, change your car details or
order a residents’ parking permit. The municipal utility and disposal companies can
be contacted here too, and accept registrations. The Citizens’ Advice Bureau ensures
that you can become a fully-fledged citizen of Offenbach in less than 30 minutes.
The Citizens’ Advice Bureau provides its services from Monday to Friday by appointment. Thus unnecessary waiting time, in particular for employed people, can be avoided. Once the all-important formalities have been dealt with, you can relax and enjoy life in Offenbach.

The Citizens’ Advice Bureau is located in the Bernardbau in
the centre of Offenbach, approximately 300 metres from the
town hall. It is easy to access for most people, including those
who have difficulty walking and families with pushchairs.

Waste collection
ESO Stadtservice GmbH, which belongs to the City Service
area of the Stadtwerke Offenbach utilities consortium, is responsible for the disposal of waste in Offenbach. Its Offenbach
Waste Management Calendar contains all collecting dates
(residual waste, biodegradable waste, paper, yellow bin for
recyclable materials) and provides tips for better waste
prevention. The Waste Management Calendar is displayed
in the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

Re-registering
your car
EVO informs you on the best tariffs, instalment payments and
billing procedures. You can also obtain further information
about energy and energy saving here.
You can make an appointment for bulky refuse such as old
furniture and electrical appliances to be collected free of
charge. You can do this by calling the service number
069 / 840004-545 or in person at the ESO desk in the
Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

Dogs can also be registered directly at the Citizens’ Advice
Bureau which will forward the completed forms to the res
ponsible treasury and tax office.
Tip: If you’re in a hurry, you can order the
“Sperrmüll-Express” service for a fee, and the
bulky items you want collected will then be
picked up within three days.
The cost depends on the amount to be collected, but the minimum fee is € 40.00 plus VAT.
You can take smaller quantities of bulky refuse
parts, electrical appliances and garden waste
to the recycling centre in Dieselstraße.

What you need to think about after the Move
Residence permit
The immigration department (Ausländeramt) is the right
contact point for all non-German nationals when it comes to
applying for a residence permit. Furthermore, the aliens’
authority accepts undertakings that are frequently required in
conjunction with tourist permits.

If you draw housing benefits you must immediately notify the
previous housing benefit office of your move. And remember
to submit a new application with the Offenbach Municipal

The Citizens’ Advice Bureau is also your competent contact point for many matters
after your move, for example if you need a new passport or want to change your
driving license details.
By the way: Our Citizens’ Advice Bureau has been rated among the best when comparing different municipalities.
To settle in and to feel at home in Offenbach also means to know where your health
insurance company is located, where you can take out an insurance policy and
which newspapers report on city life and city issues. Or you may also want to open

Passport and
ID card
Your ID card has expired or you need a new passport? Simply
take the expired document and a current, biometric passport
photograph to the Citizens’ Bureau - we will then deal with the
rest for you.
Processing time: Passports and ID cards are
issued by the Federal Printing Office. This
process will take three to four weeks. Please
submit your application in good time before
your holiday departure.
To issue a children’s passport, the following is required:
A current biometric passport photograph | the child | passports
or ID cards of both parents having joint custody. If only one
parent appears, the other parent’s written consent must be
presented. In case of sole custody by one parent, documented
evidence must be given (e.g. in the form of a court ruling on
custody made in the course of divorce proceedings).

Home ownership needs to be approached with care. The city of Offenbach provides

addition, the Community Housing Association GBO included in the Property area of
the Stadtwerke Offenbach utilities consortium administers and rents out more than
6,000 flats. We attach importance to energy-saving too: it saves the environment and

Environmental

Greenery is an asset worth protecting, in particular in a major
town. Therefore, trees and shrubs may not simply be removed
if they are in the way of a building project. The city’s Department for Environment, Energy and Climate Protection is happy
to provide you with help and advice regarding environmental
questions. This includes questions about green roofs and walls.
Also, if there are bats around or birds that brood in buildings,
this department must be consulted regarding protection of the
animals before you start any building work. The department will
be able to advise you if you want to drill a well or set up a water
tank on your plot as well. This applies to questions about flood
protection, areas liable to flooding and groundwater drainage
for construction work too.

Thermography
Where are the leakage points of a building dissipating heat
to the environment ? This important information can be
obtained by using so-called thermal imaging where infrared
photographs show the heat emission of a building. With the
help of thermal imaging, the heat insulation of a building can
be improved to save valuable energy. Thermal images of your
house can be ordered online anytime by accessing the EVO
homepage. The Offenbach Energy-Saving Initiative, located at
the Department for Environment, Energy and Climate Protection, also provides this service for a fee.

EVO-Emergency
service
We provide emergency assistance in case of power blackouts and failures of your domestic installations depending on
the choice of product. Call our 24-hour-emergency number
at 0800 / 8060-3030. Our experts will record your notification of failure and offer immediate help. If the telephone
support is not successful, they will instruct a competent
electrician to solve the problem directly on site.
This service is free of charge – the coverage is
up to the amount of ¤ 250.00 and limited to one
failure each year. The service does not cover
defects of an apparatus / appliance and failures
occurring outside an apartment

Have you purchased a house or an apartment in Offenbach?
Please notify the ESO within two weeks of the full particulars
of all new owners and the date of transfer of ownership.
Your trash can must be registered in writing. You can use the
postcard attached to the Waste Management Calendar for this
pupose. Please note that the legally binding signature of the
landlord /owner is mandatory.

The Sparda Bank Hesse Stadium belongs to the Events area
of the Stadtwerke Offenbach utilities consortium. It is the
home ground of OFC, Offenbacher Fußball-Club Kickers, and

by bike
Offenbach’s flat topography and wonderful cycle path along
the Main make it excellent for cycling. The Offenbach Cycling
Map offers information on this form of transport and the city’s
cycle path network.
Swap the car for a bike: By cycling, you’ll help to improve the
air and reduce the noise levels in Offenbach, and you’ll also
help to lower CO2 emissions on the street.
By taking part in the national city biking campaign “Stadtradeln”,
you can encourage others to cycle too and highlight the need
for more climate protection.

AbenteuerPark
If you are athletic and like outdoor climbing high up, you will
love the FunForest Abenteuer-Kletterpark (located in the Leonhard-Eißnert-Park). Stretched over a large area, 160 trees are
connected by cable ropes and catwalks at heights between
five and fifteen metres. One of the fourteen different courses is
especially designed for children over three years.

The Weather Park located on Buchhügel is a place enjoyed by
the whole family. The Weather Park combines recreation
and adventure with scientific explanations of meteorological

In Offenbach there are many ways of getting into the countryside, and they are rarely far away. The Grünring from the Main
to the Main links beautifully tended parks and green spaces
around the city centre and along the Main embankment. The
Hesse Cider and Meadow Orchard Trail is a special combina
tion of nature and culinary delights. Along the route of industrial
culture, many stations recall, above all, the flourishing leather
goods industry in Offenbach. The forest route is an informative
nature trail with references to archaeological sites.

Getting around – Mobility in Offenbach
Many important European traffic arteries cross in the Rhine Main Area. The International
Airport, the ICE hub Frankfurt or the financial district can be reached in less than half an
hour by tube with four different commuter lines or by car via the expressway. The six
S-Bahn (tube) stations and more than 280 bus stops guarantee quick connections within
the city and to the region. Parking space for 5,000 cars is available around the city.

system. The Mobility department of Stadtwerke Offenbach,
the city’s utilities consortium, is your main contact for all ques
tions in terms of public transport. It takes care of your connections with regional trains, commuter lines and regional bus
transport. The Mobility-Team gives personal advice at the
RMV-Mobilitätszentrale, located at the commuter train station
“Marktplatz“ or alternatively by phone, e-mail or online.

Besides the regional express trains to Fulda, Würzburg and
Frankfurt some IC-connections will make a stop at the main
station in Offenbach. The commuter lines S1, S2, S8 and S9
will take you directly from six different commuter stations to
the main stations in Frankfurt, Hanau, Wiesbaden or Mainz.

benefit from a uniform tariff system and harmonized departure

In a central location at Offenbacher Marktplatz, the Mobility
area of Stadtwerke Offenbach, the city‘s utilities consortium
and RMV together provide 15 electric bicycles and two electric
cars for hire. A one-off registration is required at the mobility
centre. Registration is free, while the Pedelecs and car fees
are based on the time in which they are used. The electronic
vehicles here can be used spontaneously or after registering.

The Gender Equality Officer works towards the actual enforcement of equal rights for men and women in Offenbach. She informs and advises citizens on matters concerning equal rights,
and conducts projects (on returning to work, promoting girls’

in Hesse’s state support programme “WIR – Wegweisende Integrationsansätze Realisieren” (Realising Pioneering Integration
Strategies) since January 2014. Building on the findings of Model Region Integration, concepts for the intercultural opening
up of administrative departments, institutions, clubs and associations are being developed and implemented in the new
support periods, as are concepts that encourage a culture of
welcome and acknowledgement.

These district offices are part of the City of Offenbach’s district
management and work in cooperation with Gemeinnützige Baugesellschaft Offenbach (GBO). They are seen as places for conversation and communication. In addition to rooms that can be
