Cristina Maria Coimbra Vieira is an assistant Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and
Sciences of Education of the University of Coimbra.
She graduated in Psychology at the same institution in 1991. In 2003 she concluded her
PhD in Sciences of Education, in the field of Psychology of Education, with a research
about gender stereotypes in the education of boys and girls in the family..
Along with her academic career of about twenty years of teaching and researching about
gender questions in formal and non-formal contexts through the life-span, Cristina Vieira
has been working on the promotion of gender equality in education and training in
Portugal.
So far Cristina Vieira participated in the external evaluation committees of the II and III
Portuguese National Plans on Gender Equality; she was invited to Portuguese Forum for
Education for Citizenship; she coauthored a Guide about Gender and Citizenship which
are being applied by the Ministry of Education in different school levels in Portugal; and
she is a counselor of the Portuguese Commission of Citizenship and Gender Equality in
representation of the Portuguese Association of Research about Women.
In the Faculty of Psychology and Sciences of Education of the University of Coimbra she
is the Coordinator of Master Degree in Adult Education and Training and Community
Intervention.
