Frank Stokes is one of the giant figures in the history of
early American music. Besides being an excellent blues
performer, he is also a master of the ragtime-breakdown
style centered around Memphis from the late 1800s
through the 1920s.

were known as the Beale Street Sheiks.

down through the ages from musician to musician, as far
as our power, heart and love would allow us to, bowing
only to musical concerns.

2001 beginnen Studio Davoli ihre Musikreise in der Stadt
Lecce (Apulien) mit dem Ziel, eine ausgewogene Mischung
aus Vintage-Sound und modernerer Elektronik zu
erreichen. Zuerst trugen sie den Namen Valvole Davoli.
2002 bekommen sie die erste Auszeichnung bei dem
Wettbewerb vom Arezzo Wave Festival. Ihr Analogic cheat
kommt in die Compilation des Festivals Arezzo Wave love
Festival. Angesichts der raschen Fortschritte werden sie
gleich von Nicolò Pozzoli (davor A&R vom Vitaminic Italia)
vom Label Record Kicks betreut. Die erste Single
Superpartner kam gleich in die Playlisten der
ausschlaggebenden italienischen Radiosender wie 101
NetWork und Radio 1. Es war das Ergebnis des
professionellen Remix von Robert Passera e Benasky. In
der Saison 2003/2004 erschien dann die Vinyl-Version von
Superpartner P-Funk-Remix (Vinyl 12’). In Februar 2004
war dann die Mitschnittfase des Video der Single

abgeschlossen. Ständig unterwegs auf den Bühnen der
Indie-Pop-Hauptstädten Italiens, beim SoundLabs Festival,
zusammen mit Wire, Liars und Cristian Vogel, bekamen sie
die Palme für die besten New Comer.
Megalopolis, Debütalbum der jungen Band Studio
Davoli, ist im Augenblick bevorzugter Gesprächsstoff der
italienischen Indie-Pop Welt. “Die schönste Überraschung
der Indie-Pop-Szene“ wenn man einen bekannten
Musikredakteur zitieren kann, ein kleiner Juwel, gekonnte
Mischung aus Stereolab, Beatles und jungen Cardigans,
diese ganze Palette an Vintage-Klängen mit sofisticated
Elektronik. So bekommen wir den sprudelnden Klang von
Superpartner, Go baby, Abat jour bis zu den sphärischen
Atmosphären von Gate must be negative transition. Sehr
gelungen und zaubernd melancholisch stimmend der TitleTrack megalopolis.
Die sinnliche Stimme von Matilde kommt im One day bevor
one day besonders zur Geltung. Der Höhepunkt ist
zweifelsohne Sexsafari, zweite geniale Single gesungen
vom Gianluca De Rubertis. Er erinnert uns stark an Back
vom Odelay.
