German Weeks in Albania 2013 Programme

past 6 years, the Embassy has proudly presented
the “German weeks”, the so-called “Deutscher
Oktober”.
Ladies and gentlemen,
dear friends and supporters of German culture,
“25 years economic cooperation” is the theme
of this year’s “Deutscher Oktober”. This will give
us the opportunity to express our vital interest
in intensifying relations between Germany and
Albania and also to present a wide range of German
contemporary culture. We aim to promote the
image of a modern and vibrant Germany by a series
of events covering theatre, fine arts, film, music as
well as science and politics.
25 years ago, in October 1988, right after the
Federal Republic of Germany and Albania had
established diplomatic relations, both countries
signed a bilateral agreement on development
cooperation. This marked the beginning of the
economic cooperation between the two countries.
In recent years, the German side prioritized energy
and water supply, disposal of waste and waste water
as well as promotion of smaller and medium-sized
businesses. The key objective of our commitment is
to support Albania in the development of a modern
and responsibly structured social market economy.
Despite some setbacks, Albania can look back on
a sweeping economic development over the past
25 years.
The activities are not limited to the capital Tirana;
they will also be staged in other cities, such as
Pogradec, Elbasan, Fier and Korça.
