Herstellungsverfahren
Das ätherische Eukalyptusöl citriodora wird durch Wasserdampfdestillation aus den Blüten, Blättern
und Zweigspitzen des Zitronen-Eukalyptus (Corymbia citriodora, Eucalyptus citriodora) gewonnen.
Dabei dient heißer Wasserdampf als Trägerstoff für die leicht flüchtigen organischen Komponenten
der Pflanzenteile. Durch die Nicht-Mischbarkeit der organischen Bestandteile des ätherischen Öles
und des Wassers findet beim Abkühlen eine spontane Phasentrennung statt, so dass das reine
ätherische Öl abgeschieden werden kann. Die Ausbeute liegt zwischen 1 und 2%.[1,2]
Manufacturing method
The essential eucalyptus citriodora oil is obtained by water steam distillation of the blossoms, leaves and
twigs of the lemon eucalyptus (Corymbia citriodora, Eucalyptus citriodora). Hot water steam is used as a carrier
for the volatile organic compounds of the parts of the plant. Due to the non miscibility of the organic compounds
with water, the phases readily separate upon cooling and the essential oil can be easily separated. The yield is
between 1 and 2%.[1,2]
Botanischer Ursprung des Eukalyptusöls citriodora
In neueren botanischen Bestimmungsbüchern wird der
Zitronen-Eukalyptus nicht mehr als Eucalyptus citriodora
sondern als Corymbia citriodora bezeichnet. Die Art Corymbia
citriodora steht in der Gattung Corymbia, die zur Familie der
Myrtenartigen (Myrtaceae) in der Ordnung der Myrtengewächse (Myrtales) gehört. Ursprünglich stammt der
Zitronen-Eukalyptus von der Westküste Australiens, wo er
in großen Bestanden Wälder mit anderen Arten bildet. Er ist
heute eine weltweit beliebte Kübelpflanze. Der ZitronenEukalyptus wird als Baum bis zu 50 Meter hoch. Die Rinde
ist am gesamten Stamm glatt und kann in der Farbe von weiß
bis kupferrot variieren. Häufig findet man lockere Rindenschuppen, die jedoch längere Zeit am Stamm verbleiben. Die
Blätter stehen wechselständig und sind lanzettlich bis
sichelartig geformt. Sie werden zwischen 10 und 23 cm lang
und 0.6 bis 3.5 cm breit. Sie sitzen an bis zu 2.5 cm langen
Stielen am Ast. Die Blattoberfläche ist satt-grün und glänzend und die Blattadern sind deutlich zu
erkennen. Die Blätter haben Öldrüsen, in denen das ätherische Eukalyptusöl citriodora gebildet und
gespeichert wird. Die Blütenstände tragen bis zu 3 grün-weiße Blüten pro Dolde. Aus den

Botanical origin of essential eucalyptus oil citriodora
In recent botanical field guides, the lemon eucalyptus is not longer referred as Eucylptus citriodora but as
Corymbia citriodora. The species Corymbia citriodora is in the genus Corymbia, which belongs to the family of
Myrtaceae in the order of the myrtle family (Myrtales). Originally, the lemon eucalyptus comes from the west
coats of Australia, where it is building great forests together with other species. It is now a worldwide popular
container plant. Lemon eucalyptus is a tree which can reach heights up to 50 meters. The bark is smooth on the
whole trunk and can vary in colour from white to coppery. The bark is often loosening, but remaining on the
trunk for a long time. The leaves are alternate and are lanceolate to sickle in shape. They are between 10 and 23
cm long and between 0.6 and 3.5 cm wide. They sit at up to 2.5 cm long stems on the branch. The leaf surface is
lush-green and glossy and the veins are clearly visible. The leaves have oil glands, in which the essential
eucalyptus oil citriodora is produced and stored. The flower spikes carry up to three green-white flowers per
umbel. The fertilized flowers develop first fruits, in which the small reddish-black seed are ripen.[3]
Charakterisierung
Das ätherische Eukalyptusöl citriodora ist eine leicht bewegliche, farblose bis hellgelbe Flüssigkeit. Es
besitzt einen charakteristischen Duft, der an Rosen und Gras erinnert. Das ätherische Öl löst sich gut
in Alkohol (1:2, Ethanol), Pflanzenölen und anderen ätherischen Ölen. Es ist nahezu unlöslich in
Wasser. Hauptbestandteile sind Citronellal, Citronellol und Geraniol.[1,2]
Characterisation
Essential eucalyptus oil citriodora is a mobile, colorless to light yellow liquid. It has a characteristic scent,
reminiscent of rose and grass. The essential oil is good soluble in alcohol (1:2, ethanol), vegetable oils and other
essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. Major compounds are citronellal, citronellol and geraniol.[1,2]
Verwendung in der Küche
Ätherisches Eukalyptusöl citriodora wird im Allgemeinen nicht zur Zubereitung von Speisen und
Getränken verwendet.[2]
Use in kitchen
Essential eucalyptus oil citriodora is not generally used in the preparation of food and drinks.[3,2]
Arzneiliche Verwendung, Phytotherapie
Die Inhaltsstoffe des ätherischen Eukalyptusöl citriodora besitzen eine Reihe von gesundheitlich
relevanten Eigenschaften. Aufgrund der fehlenden Oxid-Verbindungen, hat dieses Öl einen, vom

bekannten Eukalyptusöl, deutlich unterscheidbaren Duft. Durch den fehlenden „medizinischen“ Duft
ist es besonders bei Kindern beliebt. Es ist auch dementsprechend kein typisches Erkältungsöl,
sondern findet seine Anwendung eher in der Schmerzbekämpfung. Das ätherische Eukalyptusöl
citriodora besitzt eine große antiphlogistische (entzündungshemmende) und antirheumatische
Wirkung. Bei Arthitiden (entzündlichen Gelenkerkrankungen) und Polyarthritis (mehr als 5
betroffene Gelenke) werden Einreibungen, Auflagen und Bäder als Therapieform empfohlen. Das
ätherische Eukalyptusöl citriodora besitzt zudem eine starke analgetische (schmerzlindernde)
Wirkung. Bei einer Arthritis und allgemeinen Schmerzen im Bewegungsapparat wird die Mischung
von ätherischem Eukalyptusöl citriodora mit Orange, Petitgrain und Wintergrün zur
Schmerzlinderung besonders empfohlen. Hier können Massagen und Bäder zum Einsatz kommen.
Bei bestehendem Bluthochdruck wirkt das ätherische Eukalyptusöl citriodora blutdrucksenkend,
wenn es als Einreibung oder Auflage verwendet wird.
Rezept für eine Ölmischung bei Sehnenschmerzen:
5 Tr. Eucalyptus citriodora
5 Tr. Eucalyptus globulus
10 Tr. Ingwer
5 Tr. Kamille blau
10 Tr. Kamille römisch
10 Tr. Lavendel
10 Tr. Pfefferminz
5 Tr. Rosmarin (Cineol Typ)
50 mL Johanniskrautöl
Die ätherischen Öle werden im Johanniskrautöl gelöst. Damit werden 4 bis 5 mal am Tag die
schmerzenden Stellen einmassiert. Die Behandlung muss langfristig durchgeführt werden, da
pradytrophes Gewebe (Sehnen) nur sehr langsam heilen.
Traditionell wird das ätherische Eukalyptusöl citriodora zusammen mit anderen zitronig duftenden
ätherischen Ölen zur Insektenabwehr eingesetzt (Duftkerzen, Duftölmischungen für die Duftlampe).[4]
Medical use, phytotherapy
The compounds of essential eucalyptus oil citriodora have a number of health-related properties. Due to the
missing of oxide compounds, this essential oil has a significantly distinguishable scent compared to the known
eucalyptus globulus scent. By the lack of a „medical“ scent it is very popular with children. It is therefor not a
typical cold oil, but rather finds its application in the alleviation of pain. The essential eucalyptus oil
citriodora has a great anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic effect. In arthritis (inflammatory joint disease)
and rheumatoid arthritis (more than 5 affected joints) ointments, pads and baths are recommended as therapy.
The essential eucalyptus oil citriodora also has a strong analgesic (pain relieving) effect. With arthritis and
general pain in the musculoskeletal system, the mixture of eucalyptus oil citriodora with orange, petitgrain
and winter green is recommend for pain relief. Here, massages and baths can be used. In existing hypertension,
the essential eucalyptus oil citriodora acts antihypertensive, when used as a rub or pad.
Recipe for an oil blend for tendon pain:

The essential oils are dissolved in the St. John's wort oil. Thus the aching body areas are massaged up 4 to 5
times a day. The treatment must be carried out in the long term, because pradytrophes tissue (tendons) heals just
very slowly.
Traditionally, the essential eucalyptus oil citriodora is used against insects (scented candles, fragrance oil
mixtures for the fragrance lamp) along with other lemon fragrant essential oils.[4]
Aromatherapie
In der Aromatherapie wird ätherisches Eukalyptusöl citriodora als Sedativum (Beruhigungsmittel)
eingesetzt. In niedrigen Konzentrationen kann es als sanfte Massage oder als Ölbad angewandt
werden. Es hilft dann besonders bei Stress und Schlaflosigkeit, insbesondere auch bei Kindern. [4,5]
Aromatherapy
In aromatherapy, essential eucalyptus oil citriodora is used for its sedative (calming) effect. At low
concentrations, it can be applied as a gentle massage or as an oil bath. It then helps especially for stress and
insomnia, especially in children.[4,5]
Anwendung in der Kosmetik
In der Kosmetik wird das ätherische Eukalyptusöl citriodora überwiegend zur Herstellung von
Duftstoffen für Haushaltsreiniger verwendet. Das Öl hat einen hohen Anteil an allergen wirkenden
Bestandteilen. In Kombination mit anderen zitronigen ätherischen Ölen wird es vielfach zur
Insektenabwehr eingesetzt. Besonders Küchenschaben und Silberfischen sprechen auf ätherisches
Eukalyptusöl citriodora an. Es eignet sich sehr gut für Mischungen mit Patchouli, Rose und
Zedernholz.[2,4]
Use in Cosmetic
In cosmetics, the essential eucalyptus oil citriodora is used mainly for the production of fragrances for
household cleaners. The oil has a high proportion of allergen sensitive components. It is often used in
combination with other citrusy essential oils for insect defense. Especially cockroaches and silverfishes respond to
essential eucalyptus oil citriodora. It is very suitable for blends with cedar wood, patchouli, rose and cedar
wood.[2,4]

Einige der Inhaltstoffe von ätherischem Eukalyptusöl citriodora sind als gesundheitlich bedenklich

Application and warning notes, side effects
Some of the compounds of essential eucalyptus oil citriodora are classified as hazardous to health. The
compounds citronellal, citronellol and geraniol have an allergenic potential. Also note the reference in the

Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) and are enforced by the IFRA Scientific Committee.
