Herstellungsverfahren
Das ätherische Helichrysumöl wird durch Wasserdampfdestillation der Blüten, der Blätter und
Stängel einer Strohblumen-Art (Helichrysum angustifolium) gewonnen. Dabei dient heißer Wasserdampf als Trägerstoff für die leicht flüchtigen organischen Komponenten der Pflanze. Durch die
Nicht-Mischbarkeit der organischen Bestandteile des ätherischen Öles und des Wassers findet beim
Abkühlen eine spontane Phasentrennung statt, so dass das reine ätherische Öl abgeschieden werden
kann. Die sehr geringe Ausbeute liegt zwischen 0.07 und 0.09%.[1,2]
Manufacturing method
The essential helichrysum oil is obtained by water steam distillation of the blossoms, the leaves and stems of a
species of helichrysum (Helichrysum angustifolium). Hot water steam is used as a carrier for the volatile organic
compounds of the plant. Due to the non miscibility of the organic compounds with water, the phases readily
separate upon cooling and the essential oil can be easily separated. The very low yield is between 0.07 and
0.09%.[1,2]
Botanischer Ursprung des Helichrysumöls
Die Art Helichrysum angustifolium gehört zur Gattung der
Strohblumen (Helichrysum) im Tribus Gnaphalieae und
der Unterfamilie Asteriodeae. Die dazugehörige Familie
der Korbblütler (Asteraceae) gehört wiederum zur
Ordnung der Asternartigen (Asterales). Helichrysum
angustifolium ist ein Synonym für die Pflanze Helichrysum
italicum, welche als Italienische Strohblume oder
Currykraut bezeichnet wird. Die Pflanze stammt
ursprünglich aus dem Mittelmeerraum und wird heute
weltweit als Zier- und Gewürzpflanze kultiviert. Die
italienische Strohblume wächst als Halbstrauch und wird
zwischen 20 und 60 cm hoch. Junge Triebe und Blätter
sind anfangs gräulich-weiß und filzig behaart. Im Laufe
des Wachstums verliert die Blattoberseite jedoch die
filzigen Haare. Die Laubblätter sitzen wechselständig am Stängel. Sie haben eine schmale, längliche
Form und einen umgerollten Rand. Zwischen Mai und August zeigen sich die gelben Blütenstände.
Die körbchenförmigen Blüten sitzen zusammen in einem doldenartigen Gesamtblütenstand. Die
Blätter und Blüten riechen intensiv nach Curry.[3]

Botanical origin of essential helichrysum oil
The species Helichrysum angustifolium belongs to the genus Helichrysum in the tribe Gnaphalieae and the
subfamily Asteriodeae. The accompanying family of the daisy (Asteraceae) belongs to the order of Asterales.
Helichrysum angustifolium is synonymous with Helichrysum italicum, which is referred to as Italian straw
flower or curry plant. The plant is native to the Mediterranean region and is now cultivated worldwide as an
ornamental and medicinal plant. The Italian straw flower grows as a shrub and is between 20 and 60 cm high.
Young shoots and leaves are initially greyish-white and downy hairy. During growth, the leaf surface, however,
loses the matted hair. The leaves sit alternate on the stem. They have a narrow, elongated shape and a rolled-over
edge. Between May and August the plant shows yellow inflorescences. The basket-shaped flowers sit together in
an umbel-like inflorescence. The leaves and flowers smell strongly like curry.[3]
Charakterisierung
Das ätherische Helichrysumöl ist eine leicht bewegliche, gelbe Flüssigkeit. Es besitzt einen warmen
und intensiven honig-artigen Duft, mit feinen Tee-Noten. Das ätherische Helichrysumöl löst sich gut
in Alkohol (Ethanol), Pflanzenölen und anderen ätherischen Ölen. Es ist nahezu unlöslich in Wasser.
Hauptbestandteile sind Nerylacetat, Pinen-Isomere und Limonen.[1,2]
Characterisation
Essential helichrysum oil is a mobile, yellow colored liquid. It has a warm and intense honey-like flavor, with
fine tea notes. Essential helichrysum oil is good soluble in alcohol (ethanol), vegetable oils and other essential
oils. It is almost insoluble in water. Major compounds are neryl acetate, pinenes and limonene.[1,2]
Verwendung in der Küche
Ätherisches Helichrysumöl wird im Allgemeinen nicht zur Zubereitung von Speisen und Getränken
verwendet. Die getrocknete Pflanze ist jedoch als Teedroge in Kräutermischungen bekannt. Zudem
erinnert der Duft der Blüten an Curry-Mischungen und die jungen Blätter und Sprosse werden zum
Würzen von Reis, Fleisch- und Fischgerichten sowie von Saucen verwendet.[2,3]
Use in kitchen
Essential helichrysum oil is not generally used in the preparation of food and drink. The plant is known as a
tea drug in herbal blends. Moreover, reminiscent of the scent of the flowers in curry blends, young leaves and
shoots are used to flavor rice, meat and fish dishes and sauces. [2,3]
Arzneiliche Verwendung, Phytotherapie
Die Inhaltsstoffe des ätherischen Helichrysumöls besitzen eine Reihe von gesundheitlich relevanten
Eigenschaften. Ätherisches Helichrysumöl ist seit langer Zeit als sogenanntes Hämatomöl bekannt. Es
wirkt antiphlogistisch (entzündungshemmend) wenn es direkt auf die verletzte Stelle aufgetragen
wird. Auch als Auflage oder Ölbad kann die Wirkung des Öles genutzt werden, um z. B. Blutergüsse

in Folge von Zerrungen, Prellungen, Verstauchungen oder Muskelschmerzen zu verhindern.
Besonders die Kombination mit Lavendel, Cistrose und Cajeput hat sich bewährt. Zudem wirkt das
ätherische Helichrysumöl schmerzstillend (analgetisch). Das Öl wirkt ebenfalls antikoagulierend und
kann bei einer Thromboseneigung des Patienten als Einreibung die Verklumpung des Blutes
verhindern.
Bei
einer
Bronchitis
(Entzündung
der
oberen
Atemwege),
Sinusitis
(Nasennebenhöhlenentzündung) oder Rhinitis (Entzündung der Nasenschleimhaut) wirkt ätherisches
Helichrysumöl schleimlösend (mukolytisch) und Husten-mildernd (antitussiv). Am Besten wird es
als Ölbad, Einreibung oder Auflage angewandt.[4]
Ölmischung zur Behandlung einer Distorsion (Verstauchung) mit ausgeprägtem Hämatom:
10 Tr. Helichrysumöl
10 Tr. Cajeputöl
10 Tr. Lavendelöl
5 Tr. Rosmarinöl ct. cineol
5 Tr. Wintergrünöl
30 mL Johanniskrautöl
Die ätherischen Öle werden im Johanniskrautöl gelöst. Die Mischung wird zwei mal täglich auf die
betroffene Gelenkstelle aufgetragen und mit einem festen Verband umschlossen.
Medical use, phytotherapy
The compounds of essential helichrysum oil have a number of health-related properties. Essential helichrysum
oil is known for a long time as so-called hematoma oil. It acts anti-inflammatory when it is applied directly to
the injury site. As ointment or oil bath, the effect of the oil can be used, for example, to prevent bruising as a
result of sprains, bruises and muscle pain. Especially the combination of lavender, rock rose and cajeput has
proven. Moreover, the essential helichrysum oil relieves pain (analgesic effect). The oil is also anticoagulant
and may prevent the clotting of blood at a thrombosis when used as an ointment. At a bronchitis (inflammation
of the upper respiratory tract), sinusitis (sinus infection) or rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal mucosa) essential
helichrysum oil has an expectorant (mucolytically) and cough-mitigation (antitussive) effect. It can be applied
as an oil bath, ointment or pad.[4]
Oil mixture to treat a sprain with hematoma:
10 drops helichrysum oil
10 drops cajeput oil
10 drops lavender oil
5 drops rosemary oil ct. cineol
5 drops wintergreen oil
30 mL of St. John's Wort oil
The essential oils are dissolved in the St. John's wort oil. The mixture is applied twice daily to the affected joint
and coated with a firm bandage.
Aromatherapie
In der Aromatherapie wird ätherisches Helichrysumöl aufgrund der beruhigenden und
entspannenden Wirkung geschätzt. Bei Anwendung als Einreibung, Ölbad oder in der Duftlampe
werden allgemeine Angstzustände, Stress und depressive Verstimmungen gemildert. Gleichzeitig

wirkt es nervenstärkend, so dass Schwächezustände, nervöse Erschöpfung und auch seelische
Traumata positiv beeinflusst werden. Hierzu werden insbesondere das Ölbad und die Anwendung in
der Duftlampe empfohlen.[4,5]
Aromatherapy
In aromatherapy, essential helichrysum oil is valued for its soothing and relaxing effects. When used as an
ointment, oil bath or fragrance lamp, general anxiety, stress and depression can be alleviated. At the same time it
has a strong tonic effect, so that weakness, nervous exhaustion and mental trauma are affected positively. In
particular, oil bath and fragrance lamp are recommended for application.[4,5]
Anwendung in der Kosmetik
In der Kosmetik wird das ätherische Helichrysumöl für die Komposition von Kräuter- und
Phantasienoten verwendet. Es ist ein guter Fixateur für die kombinierten Düfte und wird häufig in
Toiletten-Artikeln zur Beduftung eingesetzt. Das ätherische Helichrysumöl eignet sich sehr gut für
Mischungen mit Cistrose, Eichenmoos, Geranie, Gewürznelke, Römischer und blauer Kamille,
Lavendel, Mimose, Muskatellersalbei, Rose und Zitrusölen. [2,4]
Use in Cosmetic
In cosmetics, the essential helichrysum oil is used for the composition of herbal and fantasy note perfumes. It is
also a good fixative for the combined flavors and is often used in toilet articles for scenting. Essential
helichrysum oil is very suitable for mixing with rock rose, oak moss, geranium, clove, Roman and blue
chamomile, lavender, mimosa, clary sage, rose and citrus oils.[2,4]
Anwendungs- und Warnhinweise, Nebenwirkungen
Einige der Inhaltstoffe von ätherischem Helichrysumöl sind als gesundheitlich bedenklich
einzustufen. Die Komponente Limonen besitzt ein allergenes Potential. Pinen-Isomere können bei
dermaler Anwendung bei empfindlichen Personen zu Hautreizungen und Ekzemen führen, bei oraler
Aufnahme sind Nierenreizungen möglich. Beachten Sie auch die Hinweise im Sicherheitsdatenblatt
und der Produktspezifikation.[2,4]
Application and warning notes, side effects
Some of the compounds of essential helichrysum oil are classified as hazardous to health. The component
limonene has an allergenic potential. Pinenes can lead to skin irritation and eczema in susceptible individuals
when applied dermal and to kidney irritation, when taken orally. Also note the reference in the material safety
data sheet and the product specification.[2,4]
