Hintergrund des Kolloquiums ist das laufende Forschungsprojekt zur »Kathedrale von Santiago de Compostela –
Gestalt, Funktion und Programm«, das von der Thyssen
Stiftung und dem SNF gefördert wird. Im Teilprojekt der
BTU Cottbus (Klaus Rheidt) entsteht eine komplette
Bauaufnahme der Kathedrale, die neue Erkenntnisse zu
Planung und Bau der Kathedrale gewinnen lässt. Das
komplementäre Berner Teilprojekt (Bernd Nicolai), interpretiert die Funde kunst- und kulturhistorisch. Erste Resultate
machen u.a deutlich, dass es einen romanischen Westbau mit einem ersten Portal gegeben hat, das unter dem
bezeugten Meister Mateo zwischen 1168 und 1188 durch
den Pórtico de Gloria ersetzt worden ist. Das Kolloquium
soll dazu dienen, diese und andere neue Ergebnisse
aus dem Projekt zu präsentieren und mit der aktuellen
internationalen Forschung in Spanien, den USA, Schweiz,
Deutschland und Frankreich zum Themenbereich der
Pilgerstrassenarchitektur und -skulptur zu konfrontieren.

Este coloquio está relacionado con nuestro proyecto
de investigación »La catedral de Santiago de Compostela –
forma, función, programa« que está promovido por
la Fundación Thyssen y por el SNF. En el subproyecto de
la BTU Cottbus (Klaus Rheidt) se está desarrollando
un completo levantamiento planimétrico de la catedral
que facilitará nuevos conocimientos en cuanto al planeamiento y a la construcción de la catedral. El subproyecto
complementario de Berna (Bernd Nicolai) interpreta
los datos obtenidos en base de la historia del arte y de la
cultura. Primeros resultados muestran que había existido
un cierre occidental románico con un primer portal que
se sustituyó por el Pórtico de la Gloria bajo Maestro Mateo
entre 1168 y 1188. La meta del coloquio es la presentación
de estos y otros nuevos resultados y su confrontación
con la actual investigación internacional de la arquitectura
y escultura de los caminos de peregrinación.
This conference is related to our ongoing research
project »The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela – Form,
Function, Program«, which is supported by the Thyssen
Stiftung and the SNF. The BTU Cottbus sub-project
(Klaus Rheidt) develops a building history of the cathedral
based on archaeological investigation, while the Bern
sub-project (Bernd Nicolai) deals with the art historical and
cultural historical interpretation of the site. Initial results
revealed the existence of a Romanesque west-building,
including a first west portal, which was entirely rebuilt
under Master Mateo between 1168 and 1188 and replaced
by the well-known Pórtico de la Gloria. These and other
new findings will be presented at the conference, where
they will be brought into conversation with current
research from the US, Spain, Switzerland, Germany and
France on pilgrimage architecture and sculpture.
