The Bayer Industrial Park in Brunsbüttel is a high-tech site for the chemicals
industry with a first-class infrastructure. Located on the banks of the North Sea,
Kiel Canal and the Lower Elbe river, it forms part of the successful economic
landscape of the Metropolitan Region of Hamburg. The industrial park is also
incorporated in the ChemCoast network, which covers the whole of Northern
Germany. A variety of internationally active companies are already operating
from this site. Approximately one thousand highly qualified staff have found
employment at the Bayer Industrial Park in Brunsbüttel – and there is potential for further growth. The reasons behind such success are obvious: Here, the
advantageous conditions of a strong, integrated region are combined with the
opportunities offered by the global economy. With direct links to ports and the

State-of-the-art waste management and sustainable recycling management are
key performance features of the Brunsbüttel site for the chemicals industry. This
includes a gas phase oxidation plant at the industrial park for the removal of
hazardous liquid waste. Organic waste water is purified using the Bayer Tower
Biology. An efficient event management procedure has been established and
tested with the involvement of the authorities.

The Bayer Industrial Park in Brunsbüttel forms part of the ChemCoast network,
which was set up by the business community and politicians in order to
strengthen the position of Northern Germany as a centre for the chemicals
industry. Many international industrial manufacturers can already be found at
Brunsbüttel’s ChemCoast site. Their products range from mineral oils through
alumina and surfactants to ammonia and urea as well as reactive dyes, biodiesel
and rubber chemicals. The partners in the network work together closely when
it comes to purchasing and the use of resources and services, but above all in
the fields of logistics, special waste disposal and power generation. This means
that the ChemCoast network also offers new members a first-class basis when
