The private villa for rent is situated in the town of Ossuccio, approximately 20km north
of the town of Como. Built on the western shore of Lake Como, this is the perfect
venue for a family vacation or a wedding. Lake Como is the third largest lake in Italy.
Completely surrounded by mountains, the highest of which is Monte Legnone, the
lake's Alpine ridge resists the northern winds and ensures the generally mild and moist
climate. Because of the unique climate, the flora along the lakeside is varied,
abundant and similar to Mediterranean vegetation. Very few other locations in Italy
offer such environmental variety going from the mountains to the lake, from alpine
valleys to small hills, all in a few kilometres. Guests can rent a boat (which can be
parked in the private garage) to enjoy the charms of the lake.
The villa was built by Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio at the end of the16th century. In 1787
the property was sold to Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, a lover of arts and letters, who
enlarged the house and garden, erecting statues and fountains and avenues between
the pergolas. In the late 18th century the villa hosted a gallant and frivolous society
where festivals, banquets and dances followed one another relentlessly and where the
lounges housed meetings, concerts or literary discussions.
The palatial interior of the spacious luxury villa consists of three floors, recently
renovated by Jacques Garcia, a French decorator. On the first floor, the main
entrance opens to the magnificent lobby, leading to a dining room, a winter garden and
three ornately decorated salons. All these rooms have marble floors and original
frescoes on the walls and ceilings. Also on the first floor are the services rooms (the
kitchen and a covered terrace with fireplace for outdoor dining) as well as the gallery
with its lake-views. This leads to the studio and the central salon with its cathedral
ceiling.
On the first floor, the master suite and the guest suite surround the central salon. A

with marble bathrooms, overlook the cathedral ceiling of the central salon. All
bedrooms are beautifully furnished with antiques. Besides relaxing in the rich library,
guests can wander through the garden or take part in one of the many water sport and
cultural activities that can be organized.
Outside, the façade of the villa, with simple and sober lines punctuated by grey stone
ornamental carvings, is directly reflected in the water of Lake Como. Statues and
fountains are scattered throughout the garden. A large swimming pool with beautiful
views is situated alongside the lake.
A competent and efficient team will keep the residence clean and will ensure you have
a pleasant stay.
