Ich bin Donja Rahimzadiany, 42 Jahre alt. Ich lebe und
arbeite in Berlin. Ich bin die Tochter eines Persers, der
mehr als drei Jahrzehnte eine „Champagnerbar“ in
der Berliner City West betrieben hat, welche so etwas
wie eine Institution im Nachtleben Berlins war.
Kunst sollte für mich intuitiv und klar verständlich
sein, wobei ich ihr dennoch gestatte, mich auf subtile,
ästhetische Weise einfach nur zu faszinieren. Aus
diesem Grund begleitet und bereichert mich Kunst
alltäglich und bedient dabei meine „augenlust”.

I am Donja Rahimzadiany. 42 years old. I live and work
in my hometown, Berlin. I am the daughter of a Persian,
who (for more than three decades) ran a “champagne
bar” in Berlin City West, which was once a kind of
institution of Berlin nightlife.
For me, art should be intuitive and easy to understand,
even though I do allow it to simply fascinate me in
a subtle, aesthetic kind of way. For this reason, art
accompanies me on a day-to-day basis and therefore
satisfies my “aesthetic yearning” – my “augenlust“.
Auf der Suche nach Unerwartetem
Die Künstlerin Donja Rahimzadiany im
Gespräch mit Redakteurin Stephanie
Schneider vom „Verführer“-Berlin über
die Kunst der digitalen POPART, den
Zwiespalt zwischen Kunst und Kommerz
und wie Spiritualität beides zusammenbringen kann.
Donja, bist Du ein Fan von Andy Warhol?
Wird das von mir erwartet, weil ich meinen
kreativen Output ‚POPART‘ nenne? Mein
Interesse an seiner Kunst begann erst, als
Leute mit Andy Warhol anfingen, wenn sie vor
meinen Arbeiten standen – mit Aussagen wie
„Das Warhol-Konzept der Neuzeit“ usw. Ich
finde, er hat erkannt, wie er sich zu kreieren
hat, um spannende Wirkungen zu erlangen
und so das öffentliche Interesse auf seine
Persönlichkeit zu ziehen. Herrlich schillernd
und skurril. Das wirkt anziehend auf mich
und erhält mein Interesse. Thematisch ist
„augenlust“ aber ganz anders als Warhol.
Worin liegt denn der Unterschied?
Meine Themen sind nicht „Comics, Picknicktische, Männerhosen, Duschvorhänge,
Colaflaschen – all die großartigen modernen
Dinge, die von den abstrakten Expressionisten
so geflissentlich übersehen wurden“ (Zitat
Andy Warhol 1980 – Anm.d.Red.). Nein,
meine Themen werden zu „augenlust“,
meinem Ausdruck von sinnlichen Lebens-
welten. Gerne auch sehr intim, um
Unerwartetes zu entdecken.
Du nennst Deine Kunst „Personal POPART“.
Was bedeutet das genau?
Das bedeutet, dass ich aus privaten Fotos
persönliche Kunstwerke erschaffe. Ich
kann quasi aus jedermanns privatem Ar***
einen sexy Bootylicious im „augenlust“Stil zaubern. Ein ästhetischer Prozess, der
die Realität veredelt und dabei aufregende
persönliche Momente voller Schönheit
freisetzt. Der Auftraggeber kann auf Format
und Farbe Einfluss nehmen.
Warum möchtest Du das Private zum
Kunstgegenstand erheben?
Ich bediene damit die Lust des Einzelnen
am zeitgemäßen Inszenieren. Die Personen
geben mir ihre rohen, privaten Momente, um
sie zu veredeln. Ich wünschte, die Menschen
hätten mehr Mut, mir intime Momente zur
Bearbeitung zur Verfügung zu stellen –
darauf habe ich Lust.
Du könntest die Fotos der Menschen ja auch
in Öl malen. Wieso hast Du Dich gerade für
diese Bearbeitungsmethode entschieden?
Gott hat mir nicht das Talent gegeben, mit
Farbe und Pinsel umzugehen. 1999 kam
Photoshop zu mir und ich habe begonnen,
darin spielen zu gehen. Fasziniert von den
Möglichkeiten konnte ich nicht mehr aufhören
zu samplen. So wie ein DJ fasziniert von der
Aneinanderreihung von Klängen, Tönen und
Schwingungen ist und damit eine ganze
Masse emotional tanzend bis in den Morgen
in seinen Bann zieht.
Woher kommt Dein künstlerisches Talent?
Bist Du auf diesem Gebiet ausgebildet
worden?
Mein Talent entspringt nicht nur der
Kunstfertigkeit und dramatischen Dichtung
des persischen Blutes, sondern auch der
lustvollen Quelle der Gene meines persischen
Vaters. Es ist schwer, die genauen Ursprünge
meiner Kunst auszumachen. Es wird
erzählt, dass meine persische Großmutter
ihre Tiefe und ihren Ideenreichtum wegen
Unterdrückung nicht zum Ausdruck
bringen konnte. Die Verlockungen meiner
visualisierten Lust finden in fesselnden
Metamorphosen in überraschenden Texten
ihre künstlerische Ergänzung. Sie beinhalten
einen tiefen poetischen Zusammenhang.
Beim Ausprobieren fließen alle persischen
Elemente mit ein – und lassen mich freudvoll
spielen. Anders kann ich mir den Ursprung
meiner Schöpferkraft selbst nicht erklären.
Was wäre Dein Traum? Was treibt Dich an?
Ich habe eine Menge Wünsche – nämlich
genau 300 Stück. Sie sind ideell, emotional,
materiell – einige utopisch oder fantastisch.
Ausstellungen in New York, Shanghai,
Hongkong, Mumbai machen mich in der
Vorstellung glücklich ... Die Liebe „treibt“
mich an. Die Liebe zu meiner Kreativität. Die
Liebe, zu geben und die meines Gegenüber
zu berühren. Es gelingt mir ehrlich nicht in
jedem Moment – aber sie ist die treibende
Kraft.
Du hast erzählt, dass Deine Bilder in
diesem Jahr über Einrichtungshäuser
vertrieben werden. Hast Du Angst, dass
Deine Kunst dadurch beliebig wird?
Hinter Angst ist Liebe! Ich liebe mein Talent.
Nein, meine Kunst wird dadurch nicht
beliebig. Alle Motive sind limitiert. Einige auf
15 andere auf 30 Stück. Jedes Bild erhält
ein Zertifikat – Beliebigkeit ade! So wird
meine Kunst bekannt und es entstehen mehr
personalisierte Werke.
Wie stehst Du zu Reichtum und Luxus?
Hm. Ich unterscheide ideellen Nutzen von
materiellem Luxus, die im Idealfall irgendwann
vereint und frei entfaltet sind. Momentan
deale ich mit Glasperlen um gesellschaftliche
Anerkennung, um wirtschaftlichen Erfolg in
Form von Gold zu erlangen. In einer Welt
voller Leistungsdruck, ist es Luxus für mich,
diesen Weg gehen zu dürfen.
Und was bedeutet Berlin für Dich?
Icke bin Berlinerin. Und dazu auch noch halb
persisch. Das bedeutet mir viel. Um meinen
Spirit mit „augenlust“ zu leben, ist Berlin
„the only place to be“ in Deutschland. Berlin
ist Image. Berlin ist eine Stadt mit allen
Möglichkeiten und den unterschiedlichsten
Welten. Berlin ist eine Erfahrung. Die Berliner
City-Vibes inspirieren mich, rufen aber auch
Fernweh nach Goa und Nord-Kalifornien aus.
Searching for the unexpected
Artist Donja Rahimzadiany talks with
“Verführer”-Berlin editor Stefanie Schneider
about the art of digital POPART, the gap
between art and commerce and how
spirituality can bring the two together.
Donja, are you a fan of Andy Warhol?
Do people expect that, due to the term
POPART? My interest in his art began only
after people compared my works to his
by calling it things like: “The modern-age
concept of Warhol” etc. I think he figured
out how to create some exciting effects and
therefore drew public attention. Delightfully
dazzling and bizarre. This attracts me and
piques my interest. However, thematically
“augenlust” is quite unlike Warhol.
Where do you see differences?
I am not concerned with topics like
“comics, picnic tables, men‘s trousers,
shower curtains, Coke bottles – all the great
modern things that were so studiously
overlooked by the Abstract Expressionists”
(to quote Andy Warhol, 1980 – ed.). No,
I transform expressions of my sensuous
environment to “augenlust” and sometimes I
like doing this in a very intimate way in order
to discover some unexpected aspects.
You call your art “personal POPART”.
What exactly does that mean?
It means that I create personal artwork
from private pictures. I have the capacity to
bring the “augenlust“-style of aesthetic to
any derriere. A process that refines reality and
sets free stirring moments of personal beauty.
The customer can influence characteristics
such as the size and color of their personal
pop art.
Why do you want to raise private
issues in an object of art?
I want to enable people’s delight in
contemporary self-staging. My customers
allow me to use their pure, private moments
for individual refinement. I wish more people
had the courage to let me work with and
individually transform their intimate
moments – I would love that.
You could also decide to paint these
pictures in oil. What made you decide to
choose this way of processing them?
God didn’t grant me the talent to work with
paint and brush. I came across Photoshop in
1999 and started to play around with it.
Experimentation grew along with my
fascination with all the various possibilities
the medium offered – as DJ‘s do in their
juxtapositions of tones and sounds (musical
layering) and so manage to captivate an
entire dancing crowd until the next morning.
Where does your artistic talent come from?
Have you been trained in this area?
My artistry stems from my ancestry and
my father’s playful genes. It is difficult to
trace the source of my art. They say that
my Persian grandmother, for reasons of
suppression, was not able to express her
depth and the vastness of her ideas.
It is from these locations that my work will
become visible. Andy Warhol said: “Business
art is the step that comes after art. I started
as a commercial artist, and I want to finish as
a business artist.” Galleries here in Germany
do not want to display this kind of creativity
and so I have chosen this direction. The next
focus will be international galleries.
The allure of words and visions combine to
create a poetic bouquet of sensual delights.
Through captivating metamorphoses and
deep poetic context the Persian elements flow.
How do you feel about abundance
and luxury?
Hm, I differentiate between personal usage
and materialistic luxury, which, under ideal
circumstances, are united. Currently, I am
dealing in glass beads for social recognition,
in order to gain economic success in the form
of gold. In this world of pressure to perform,
it is a luxury for me to be able to go in this
direction.
What is your dream? What drives you?
I have many desires – 300 to be exact. They
are idealistic, emotional, materialistic – some
of them utopian or fantastic. The thought of
exhibiting in New York, Shanghai, Hong Kong
or Mumbai makes me happy. Love “drives”
me. The love for my creativity. To give love
and to touch others. This love is my
sustenance and my driving force.
You said that your pictures will be sold in
furniture stores this year. Are you afraid
that this will render your art arbitrary or
of less value?
Behind fear is love! I love my talent. No,
I
don‘t have this fear. Some pieces are limited
to 15 copies, others to 30 per print. Each
artwork comes with a certificate.
And what does Berlin mean to you?
I am a Berliner as well as being half Persian.
That means a lot to me. Berlin offers the most
opportunities to live and share the spirit of
“augenlust” with others.
Berlin is image. Berlin is a city of many
different worlds and possibilities. Berlin is an
experience. The city vibes of Berlin inspire
me, but also fuel the desire to go to distant
places like Goa or northern California.

Gepresst in einer schwarzen

Melina zu verstehen ist nicht einfach. Sie ist wie Musik
ohne Text, eine Platte ohne Namen; das Sprachrohr
ihrer Szene ist der Bass. Sie ist nur eine Klangreflexion
der urbanen Landschaft; Einsamkeit und Aggression
der Großstadt gepresst in einer schwarzen Vinylspur mit
weiten Ausschlägen. Wummernder, tiefer Sound. Die
Intensität der Musik – für Außenstehende bedrohlich
und brutal – bewirkt bei den Tanzenden genau das
Gegenteil. Die Masse springt in den Morgen.
My melina
Pressed in a black vinyl track
Understanding Melina is not easy. She is like music
without lyrics, a record without name; the mouthpiece
of her scene is the bass. She is an image that also
reflects the sound essence of the urban landscape.
Deep, rumbling sound. To outsiders, the intensity of
the music
is menacing and violent, but it is just the
opposite to the dancers. The audience jumps into the
morning.

wedding import from Vienna, she became a selfconfident pop amusement queen: hedonistic, extralavish, and beautiful. With extravagance and grace, the
young queen flowed through the palace chambers. As
the folly of Versailles in tall pumps, meter-high hair,
cake decorations and petits fours, the queen and her
entourage provide a romantic archetype for today’s
young heiress, wives, ex-wives and it-girls. The worlddenying decadence and impetuous love of life between
rococo and pop as the modern “zeitgeist”.

Was sie mit den anderen Mitgliedern dieses
spektakulären „Club 27“ verbindet, ist weit mehr als
das frühe Todesalter. Es ist ihr außergewöhnliches
Talent, ihr musikalischer Einfluss und ein Hang zur
Selbstzerstörung, durch den sich begabte Mensch oft
auszeichnen. Ihr Motto: „Live fast, love hard, die young“.
„Ich möchte, dass die Leute meine Stimme hören
und ihren Ärger einfach für fünf Minuten vergessen.“
Das schrieb die 13-jährige Amy Winehouse einmal in
einem Schulaufsatz. Dass ihre Musik ohne die privaten

Was tragen Sie nachts? „Ein paar Tropfen N°5!“ Wann sagte sie
diesen Satz zum ersten Mal? 7. April 1952. Marilyn Monroe ist 26
Jahre alt. Zum ersten Mal wird sie das Cover-Girl des LIFE Magazins.
Zum ersten Mal wird ihr Zitat über N°5 veröffentlicht. Die Legende
von N°5 war geboren. Oktober 1953, 882 North Doheny Drive,
BEVERLY HILLS. Foto-Session für MODERN SCREEN. Marilyn posiert
in ihrem Bett vor der Kamera – nackt. Auf ihrem Nachttisch ein
Flakon N°5. Die Fotos wurden nie veröffentlicht. April 1960. Der
Journalist Georges Belmonte interviewt Marilyn für MARIE CLAIRE.
Mit Yves Montand auf dem Set von LET´S MAKE LOVE. Und dann
spricht sie plötzlich über N°5. Die Passage wurde nie veröffentlicht.
Oktober 2012. Chanel beschafft sich diese Tonaufnahme. Zum
ersten Mal hören wir Marilyn über N°5 sprechen: „Man stellte mir
viele Fragen. Zum Beispiel: Was tragen Sie nachts? Ein PyjamaOberteil? Eine Pyjama-Hose? Ein Nachthemd? Und so sagte ich:
CHANEL N°5! Weil es die Wahrheit ist! Ich wollte nicht ,nackt‘
sagen. Aber es ist die Wahrheit.“

Because it´s the truth!
What do you wear to bed? - “Just a few drops of n°5”. When did she
say that phrase for the first time? April 7th 1952. Marilyn Monroe
is 26 years old. For the first time, Life magazine features her on its
cover. For the first time, her quote referencing n°5 is published. The
legend of n°5 was born. October 1953. 882 North Doheny Drive,
Beverly Hills. Photo shoot for Modern Screen. Marilyn poses on her
bed ... nude. In every image, a bottle of n°5 rests on her nightstand.
The photos were never published. April 1960. Journalist Georges
Belmont interviews Marilyn for the French magazine Marie Claire.
She is on the set of “Let’s Make Love” by George Cukor starring
Yves Montand. In a moment of spontaneity, Marilyn reflects on n°5.
The passage was never published. October 2012. Chanel procures
the recording of this interview. For the first time, we hear Marilyn
discussing those legendary drops of n°5. “You know, they asked me
questions. For example: What do you wear to bed? A pajama top?
Pajama bottoms? A nightgown? So I said Chanel n°5! Because it´s
the truth! And yet, I didn‘t want to say ‘nude!’ But... it´s the truth.”

Angenehm extrem
Ganz unbeeindruckt
Sie bewegt sich zu ihrer Spielgefährtin, die links im
Bühnenbild inszeniert ist. Sie greift unter die Bahre
und holt Stofffäden heraus, die am oberen Ende einen
großen aber feinen Haken haben. Sie bespielt ihre
Gefährtin, die wie eine Zeichnung eines der früheren
großen Maler wirkt. Ihre Haut schimmert wie die
einer Porzellanpuppe. Sie nimmt die Brüste ihrer
Gespielin und sticht ganz liebevoll die Haken hindurch,
anschließend durch ihre Arme. Sie nimmt sie an die
Stofffäden und bespielt mit ihr die Bühne. Die
Gespielin verhält sich ganz unbeeindruckt.

Bewacht wurde sie von 100
männlichen Wachen
Himiko ist die erste als Königin bezeichnete,
Herrscherin über das Reich Yamatai in Japan. Sie
wurde wahrscheinlich nach Ende eines 70 bis 80 Jahre
währenden Krieges als Oberhaupt gewählt, um den
Frieden untereinander zu wahren. Die Königin lebte
zurückgezogen von der Öffentlichkeit in einer Residenz,
geschützt mit Wachtürmen. Bewacht wurde sie von
100 männlichen Wachen und von 1000 ausschließlich
weiblichen Dienerinnen, wurde sie umsorgt. Sie blieb
unverheiratet. Die einzige männliche Ausnahme in
ihrem Hofstaat war ihr Bruder, der unter anderem
als Sprachrohr zum Volk fungierte. Nach ihrem Tod
wurde sie angeblich mit 100 Sklaven in einem großen
Grabhügel bestattet.

She was guarded by 100 male guards
Himiko was the first ruler of the kingdom Yamatai in
Japan to be called a queen. She was probably chosen
as the head of the country at the end of a 70 to 80
year war in order to restore peace. The queen lived
withdrawn from the public in a residence protected by
guard towers. She was protected by 100 soldiers, and
cared for by 1000 female servants. She never married.
The only male exception in her court was her brother,
who supported her as a spokesman to the people. After
her death she was supposedly buried in a large grave
together with 100 soldiers.

in Berlin’s artistic and intellectual circles at the time.

Staatsreligion
Sie war die einzige Frau, die jemals offiziell chinesischer
Kaiser war. Sie kam 637 als 12-jährige Konkubine zu
Kaiser Taizong und war für das Wechseln seiner Kleider
zuständig. Erwachsen geworden, wurde sie die Konkubine des Kronprinzen und nachfolgenden Kaisers Tang
Gaozong. 690 bestieg Wú Zháó durch die Unterstützung
der Buddhisten selbst den Drachenthron. Ihr ehemaliger
Liebhaber, der politisch einflussreiche Mönch Yue
Huaiyi, hatte Schriftrollen „gefunden“, welche besagten,
dass der Maitreya (zukünftige Buddha) eine Frau sei.

She was the only woman who was ever officially Chinese
emperor. In 637, Wu Zhao, a 12-year-old concubine,
was responsible for emperor Taizong’s wardrobe. As an
adult, she was the concubine of the Crown Prince and
future emperor Tang Gaozong. In 690 with the support
of the Buddhists, Wu Zhao ascended to the Dragon
Throne, as her former lover and politically influential
monk, Yue Huaiyi had mysteriously “discovered” ancient
scrolls which stated that the maitreya (the future Buddha)
would be a woman. Buddhism was proclaimed the state
religion.

Mary was considered to be spirited, passionate and hot-tempered.
Not only did she turn the heads of all men in her physical proximity.
She – who used to be cheerful and carefree – was idolized by her
husband. She developed into a tall, slender and unusually graceful
woman who conquered French men’s hearts and immediately
became the center of the French court. Thus Brantôme announced:
“In her fifteenth year, her beauty started to appear like the light
of bright midday.” For a few years she seemed the ideal model of
a queen. Young, beautiful and exquisitely dressed, with an artistic
flair. Poetic and musical, she is radiant. After Mary was suspected
of being involved in a planned attack on her English cousin Queen
Elizabeth I, she was executed for treason in 1587.

In the 19th Century middle-class women were considered
attractive because of their beauty and not because of
their sex appeal. She, however, is a real creature of the
“bootylicious (neo) it-girls” – chosen to accelerate the
pulse of a nation and, with her sex appeal, to crack all
class barriers and the whole prudish Victorian morality.
Beauty sees itself as a fusion of the physical and
mental instincts and everyday fantasy.

Scharführerin
Es wird gesprochen, „Heidi Nazionale“ sei eine
unschöne Frau mit laubgesägtem GouvernantenProfil. Eine stupsnasige, kaltschnäuzige Scharführerin
angepasst an den männlichen Blick. Sie erhält Titel
wie „Pascha des Monats“ und „Ungekrönte Königin“,
die zum Allerweltsmodel abgerichtet wurde. Sie sei der
Maßstab obskurer humaner Seinserfüllung, randvoll mit
Belanglosigkeiten und subtilen Gewaltandrohungen.
Sie peitscht Hunderte von naiven jungen Mädchen und
bringt sie zum Weinen. Da möchte man dann elegant
und stilsicher sagen können: „Du hast diesen Look sehr
gut in deiner Challenge umgesetzt.“ Sehen wir sie doch
einfach als eine nette, fortschrittliche Frau, die etwas
aus ihrem Leben macht.

It is said that “Heidi Nazionale” was an ugly woman
with the unfriendly profile of a governess. A snub-nosed,
callous mistress specifically made for the male eye. She
receives titles like “Pasha of the Month” and “Uncrowned
Queen”. Trained as an international model, she epitomizes
the ideal of superficial aesthetic and illusion. She whips
hundreds of naive young girls, bringing them to tears.
Here you want to be able to say in an elegant and stylish
way: “Given the challenges, you have really made the best
out of your look.” Why can’t we just simply see her as
a nice, progressive woman who made something out
of her life.

zunächst nicht so brutal
Die Gestalt aus Tausendundeiner Nacht legt Ihre
Muse ganz sanft zurück auf die Bahre, bewegt sich
in Richtung dieses sabbernden Scheintoten und
positioniert ihn auf den Bauch. Sie wandelt sich zum
betörenden Monster. Sie greift unter die Bahre. Es
kommen Gummihandschuhe zum Vorschein. Sie streift
sie sich über und balsamiert sie – mit forscheren
Handbewegungen als zuvor – mit Gleitmittel ein. Ihre
Hand gleitet – zunächst nicht so brutal – in den Arsch
des Scheintoten. Sie fördert einige Schätze aus ihm
hervor, deren Symbolik ich aber nicht verstehe. Es ist
genau seine Rolle. Nicht, dass das schon genug gewesen
wäre – nein: Sie schnallt sich einen unglaublichen
Riesendildo um und fickt ihn! Ich erquicke mich an
dem Anblick all dieser abgefahrenen Menschen, dem
Szenario und genieße die blutwallende Wirkung der
Atmosphäre.

The figure from One Thousand and One Nights lays her
muse gently back on the gurney, moves in the direction
of the drooling, seemingly dead person, and places
him on his stomach. She is then transformed into a
beguiling monster. She reaches under the stretcher;
rubber gloves come to light. She streaks lubricant
across their surface with more exploratory gestures
than ever before. Her hand slides into the ass of the
seemingly dead – not too brutally at first. She produces
certain treasures from him, their symbolism I do not
understand. It is precisely his role. As if this were
already enough – no: She straps on an unbelievably
gigantic dildo and fucks him! I do a double-take of
all the bizarre beings of the scenario and enjoy the
congestive effect of the atmosphere.

„Schwarz ist der Anfang von allem, der Nullpunkt,
der Umriss, der Behälter – dann der Inhalt. Schwarz
die Summe aller Farben. Es ist schwankend, unterschiedlich, nie dasselbe. Es gibt eine Vielzahl von
