“Smart and Sustainable Built Environments”
Die Seminarreihe “Smart and Sustainable Built Environments” ist eingebettet in eine internationale Kooperation des Instituts für Industriebetriebslehre und Industrielle Produktion (IIP) / Deutsch-Französischen Instituts
für Umweltforschung (DFIU) mit der Queensland University of Technology (Australien), der TU Delft (Niederlande) sowie der State University of Campinas (Brasilien).
Voraussetzung für die Teilnahme an dem Seminar sind, neben persönlichem Engagement und Interesse an
Themen zur Nachhaltigkeit und Innovationen in der Bauindustrie, vor allem hervorragende Englischkenntnisse. Die schriftliche Ausarbeitung sowie die Abschlusspräsentation des Seminars sind in Englisch zu erbringen.
Nach einer erfolgreichen Teilnahme an dem Seminar besteht für ausgewählte Studierende mit überdurchschnittlichen Leistungen prinzipiell die Möglichkeit, aufbauend auf dem im Seminar bearbeiteten Thema eine
Masterarbeit an einer der beteiligten Partnerorganisationen anzufertigen.
“Smart and Sustainable Built Environments”
The seminar “Smart and Sustainable Built Environments” is embedded in an international cooperation of the
Institute for Industrial Production (IIP) / French-German Institute for Environmental Research (DFIU) with the
Queensland University of Technology (Australia), the Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands) as
well as with the State University of Campinas (Brasilia).
Besides personal commitment and interest in the topic of the seminar, excellent command of English is essentially required to participate in the seminar. Seminar attendants have to provide their written paper and
the final presentation in English.
After successful participation in the seminar selected students with superior performance might have the
opportunity to write their master thesis, based on their seminar theme, at one of the mentioned partner universities.

1. Comparison of energetic requirements with respect to the construction of new residential
buildings in Australia and Germany
2. Comparison of energetic requirements with respect to the retrofit of residential buildings in
Australia and Germany
3. Demolition of buildings – Comparison of the recycling practice in Australia and Germany
4. Sustainability of residential buildings – Comparison of the perception in Australia and
Germany
5. Risks connected to demolition of buildings by comparing Australia and Germany
6. Risks connected to demolition of bridge and tunnel constructions by comparing Australia
and Germany
7. Existing national support programs and future recommendations with respect to ecological
and socio-cultural aspects of the construction sector: A comparison between Australia and
Germany
8. Specifications to establish an index for the comparison of sustainable construction on an
international level
