Steven Spielberg dreht mit Tom Cruise den Film „Minority
Report“, der im Jahre 2054 spielt. Zum Set Design ordert
Spielberg zwei Schmiddem Produkte – den Waschtisch
Lugano und die Cocoon Dusche, die 1999 von den Unter­
nehmen Natursteinmanufaktur Hanel und Hansgrohe auf
den Markt gebracht wurden.
Jochen Schmiddem zusammen mit Steven Spielberg und
Tom Cruise anlässlich der Pressekonferenz­zur Premiere
des Filmes „Minority Report“. In der Mitte des Fotos – der
legendäre Produktions­­designer und zweifache Oscar
Gewinner – Ken Adam, der die Sets für etliche James Bond
Filme und Stanley Kubricks „Dr. Seltsam“ entwarf. Ken
Adam und Jochen Schmiddem waren Jury Mitglieder eines
Wettbewerbes, den die 20th Century Fox anlässlich der
Filmpremiere auslobte.

Steven Spielberg shot the film “Minority Report” with Tom
Cruise; the film takes place in the year 2054. Spielberg
ordered two Schmiddem products for the set design: the
Lugano washbasin and the Cocoon shower. Both were
introduced to the market in 1999, the former by the
Natursteinmanu­faktur Hanel company and the latter by
Hansgrohe.
Jochem Schmiddem, together with Steven Spielberg and
Tom Cruise at the press conference for the première of
the film “Minority Report”. In the middle of the photo is the
legendary production designer and two-time Oscar-winner
Ken Adam, who designed the sets for several James Bond
films as well as for Stanley Kubrick’s “Dr. Strangelove”.
Ken Adam and Jochen Schmiddem were members of the
jury for the 20th Century Fox-sponsored competition which
took place on the occasion­of the film première.

Nicht zuletzt deshalb werden die Produkte des Berliner
Designers weltweit mit den renommiertesten Design­
preisen ausgezeichnet. 1990 bis 1997 arbeitet Schmiddem
für internationale Design­studios. 1997 gründet er das
eigene Studio in Berlin.
Berlin steht für Um- und Aufbruch gleichermaßen wie
für R
­ ealität und Utopie. Berlin bietet fortlaufend Anregung
und Inspiration. Entscheidende Faktoren, um aus der
Utopie von heute die Realität von morgen zu schaffen.
Das Studio liegt in der „alten Mitte“ Berlins, fünf Gehminuten vom Ku’damm entfernt. Hier werden Projekte
­bearbeitet, die Re-Design und innovative Neuentwicklung
genauso beinhalten wie visionäre Konzepte und Studien.

That’s why the Berlin designer’s products have been
awarded renowned design prizes from all over the world.
From 1990 to 1997 S
­ chmiddem worked for international
design studios. In 1997 he set up his own studio in Berlin.
Berlin stands equally for radical change and a new
departure – for reality and utopia. Berlin offers constant
stimulation and inspiration. These are critical factors for
creating the reality of tomorrow out of today’s utopia. The
studio is located in Berlin’s “alte Mitte” (old center), five
minutes walking distance from the world famous Ku’damm.
Here is where the Schmiddem team works on all sorts of
projects, from re-designs to innovative new develop­ments
to visionary concepts and studies.
