Düsseldorf Model for the Promotion of Physical Activity, Sport and Talent The goal of the Düsseldorf model is to improve the physical fitness and promote the sporting talent of Düsseldorf ’s children – because physical activity and sport are vital for our physical, mental and emotional development. In light of this, we implement the following measures: Once a year, the physical fitness and sporting performance of all children in the 2nd grade (CHECK!) and all children in the 5th grade (ReCHECK!) is tested. Afterwards, the parents receive a personal evaluation and recommendations of how to promote their children’s physical fitness. As a follow-up to these checks, the following events take place every year: Talentiade (Talent Scouting) Selection events for the most talented children of the CHECK! Tag der Talente (Talent Day) Selection events for the most talented children of the ReCHECK! Kids in Action A sport information fair with attractive participatory events for Düsseldorf children and families. 16 Groups for promoting physical activity In small groups of school pupils, children have the opportunity to improve their physical fitness and motor skills. Research by the Düsseldorf Model show how important it is to encourage children from a young age. That’s why the Municipal Sports Office is extending its range of activities to kindergarten-age children and is counteracting the high number of non-swimmers among primary school children with swimming projects for 4 to 6 year olds. æ æ æ æ Sports festival of the „sports kindergartens“ Kindergarten sports festival Kindergarten sports camp Kindergarten swimming You can find further information, including background information and analyses at www.check-duesseldorf.de.
