Africa in short
–
Part of the ‘Focus On’ subsub-Saharan Africa at this year’s 28th International Short
Film Festival – interfilm Berlin, will be a one hour panel discussion regarding the
situation of today’s short filmmaking and independent filmmaking in Africa.
Africa.
In a region that has little or no film schools or funding subsidies, the structure of
media education in different African countries is one of the many questions that
will be explored, as well as the situation of film festivals. How much support is
provided
provided from individuals and institutions outside of Africa? Do filmmakers often
cultural
tural and aesthetic
leave the country after attaining success? And from a cul
perspective of contemporary African short film – what stories do the films
address and how are they told?
Looking forward: What future prospects might evolve from the current state of
independent filmmaking in different African countries?
The discussion about independent (short) film making in sub-Saharan Africa will
include film makers and producers of short and feature films from Côte D’Ivoir, Kenia,
Madagascar, Mozambique, Mali, Nigeria, Namibia, Senegal, South Africa, Egypt, France
and Germany. The panel will be hosted by Seipati Wittenstein – a film, film festival and
media broadcast professional from South Africa.
Date: 16.11.2012, 16:00 h, Roter Salon (Volksbühne)
