I wanted to tell you that Abb. 2007-3/411 in PK 20073, page 389 is a Westmoreland hen dish that was decorated by the decorating firm of Abel & Wasserberg &
Co., New York City. This type of decoration was called
“Charlton decoration”. There is a whole book written
on this type of handpainted decoration by Lori and Michael Palmer. They have a Web site here:

The Westmoreland 5" hen dish, the 7" hen dish, and the
standing rooster were all decorated in this style between
1945 and 1960. I am attaching a picture which shows
these.
This type of decoration was also done after Westmoreland's closing by a decorator named Louise Plues, who
had previously worked for Westmoreland and did the
decorations on items produced from the moulds which

Smith: Dear Siegmar,
I am attaching a picture of an advertisement from Rosso
that shows the way that they painted the hen dishes. The
advertisement is from Glass Collectors Digest, April /
May 1994. The painting done by Rosso was similar to
the Charleton painting done by Abel & Wasserberg. The
painting at Rosso was done by Louise Plues.
