In der Europäischen Union: • 25 000 Menschen sterben jedes Jahr durch multiresistente Bakterien • geschätzten Kosten für die Gesundheitssysteme von 1,5 Mrd. € pro Jahr. Wenn das Antibiotikum der Wahl (Erstlinienbehandlung) scheitert steigen die Kosten 50 - bis 100 mahl für Tuberkulose Medikamente, und 2 - bis 10 mahl für Antibiotika. Krankenhaus Struktur unterstutzt nicht die Zusammenarbeit 2. Die meiste Labore sind viel zu weit weg 3. Viel zu wenig klinische Mikrobiologen und Hygieniker (2 Personen) 4. Wenig Kommunikation zwischen Labor und Versorgung 5. Labor ist nur “cost center” 6. Lange zeit bis Ergebnis 7. Sehr geringes Budget 8.
