Bolger, 80, of Williamsburg, Va., died on Sunday, April 21, in Williamsburg. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he moved with his family at the age of 6 to Philadelphia, Pa. He had also lived in Hartsdale, N.Y., Westfield, Manhattan, Cranford and Sharon, Conn., before relocating to Williamsburg. Mr. Bolger graduated from Germantown High School in Pennsylvania with honors and then from the Severn School in Severna Park, Md., prior to enteringtheUnitedStatesNavalAcademy inAnnapolis, Md.Hewasamemberofthe Class of 1945, which was graduated in 1944 due to the acceleration of classes in World War II. After completing studies at the Submarine School in New London, Conn., he joined the fleet as an officer and served aboard the SS Finback, the submarine that picked up former President George Bush during World War II. At the conclusion of the war, Mr. Bolger resigned from the United States Navy and was employed by the Marine Department of the American Oil Company, beginning a long Angelina Sellino, 91 Angelina Sellino, 91, a lifelong resident of Westfield, died on Friday, June 14, at Haven Hospice in Edison. Mrs. Sellino was a communicant of the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. She was predeceased by her husband, John Sellino, in 1987. Surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth Viglianti of Lavallette, Rose Corbisiero of Edison and Joanne Roznowski of Westfield; two sons, John Sellino, Jr. of Scotch Plains and Samuel Sellino of Toms River; two brothers, Charles Danyous of North Plainfield and Nick Danyous of Hastings, Fla.; a sister, Mary Veltre of Linden; 12 grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren and a great-great grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered yesterday, Wednesday, June 19, at the Holy Trinity Church. Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Arrangements were under the direction of the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield. June 20, 2002 Carolyn De Santo, 83 Carolyn De Santo, 83, of North Plainfield died on Saturday, June 8, at the McCutchen Friends Home in North Plainfield. Born in Newark, she had lived in Westfield and Hillside prior to moving to North Plainfield two years ago. Mrs. De Santo was a member of the Bristol Myers Retirement Association in Hillside. She was predeceased by her husband, Angelo De Santo, in 1994. Surviving are two daughters, Carol Catanzaro of Westfield and Joan Barna of Scotch Plains; a brother, Arthur Scholl of Hillside, and five grandchildren. A Funeral Mass was offered on Wednesday, June 12, at the Villa Maria Chapel in North Plainfield. Interment was at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union. June 20, 2002 Grace S. West, 82 Grace S. West, 82, of Westfield died on Saturday, June 15, at Rahway Hospital in Rahway. Born in Chicago, she had lived there for most of her life before moving to Edison and then to Westfield three years ago. A graduate of the Illinois School of Optometry, she joined her father’s practice in Chicago. She had been self-employed as an optometrist for 50 years prior to retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Westfield Women’s Club, the Westfield P.E.O. and the First United Methodist Church in Westfield. She was predeceased by her husband, Dan E. West, in 1997. Surviving are a daughter, Pamela G. Shewitz of Westfield, and a granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, June 20, at the First United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation. The Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, is in charge of the arrangements. Rank, 78, Was Supervisor With Western Electric Corporation Walter A. Rank, 78, of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, June 15, at his home. Born in New York City, he had lived there for many years before moving to Scotch Plains 38 years ago. Mr. Rank had been employed as a supervisor and engineer for the Western Electric Corporation in Newark for 38 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Western Electric Pioneers of Newark, the New Jersey Steuben Parade Committee of Clark and the Deutscher Club, also of Clark. He served in the United States Army in Europe as a Corporal during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Emmi Rank; a son, Thomas W. Rank of Jackson; a daughter, Denise A. Hirshfield of Bethany, Conn.; a brother, Alfred Rank of Harwich, Mass., and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, June 19, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood. Interment was private. June 20, 2002 Stanley Welaish, 81, Systems Analyst; Mason and World War II Veteran Stanley Welaish, 81, of Fanwood died on Monday, June 10, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Mass. Born in Boston, he had lived in Weymouth, Mass., for 15 years before relocating to Fanwood 32 years ago. Mr. Welaish had been employed as a business systems analyst at the Amstar Corporation in Harrison prior to retiring 15 years ago. He also taught part-time at Kean University in Union. He was awarded bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Northeastern University in Boston. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Welaish was a member of the Weymouth United Masonic Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. Surviving are a son, Jeffrey L. Welaish; two daughters, Natalie Y. Broderick and Deborah R. WelaishSutphen, and seven grandchildren. Services were held on Thursday, June 13, at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home in Mansfield, Mass. June 20, 2002 Norman N. Turner, 90, Was President Of Carbon Solvents in Kenilworth Norman Nelson Turner, 90, of Sea Girt died on Thursday, June 13, at the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. Born in Ridgely, Md., he had lived in Scotch Plains before relocating to Sea Girt 26 years ago. Mr. Turner had been President of Carbon Solvents Labs Inc. in Kenilworth, a company that was founded by his family, prior to retiring in 1978. He served in the United States Army in Okinawa during World War II and with the Army’s military police at West Point Military Academy. He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Atlas Pythagoras Lodge No. 10 in Westfield. Surviving are his wife, Lois B. Turner; a daughter, Patricia Munz; a stepson, Theodore Cunningham; three grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Thursday, June 20, at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Visitation will take place today Theresa Acton, 84 Theresa “Bunnie” Acton, 84, of Monroe Township died on Saturday, June 15, at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Scotch Plains for 48 years before moving to the Monroe Village community in Monroe Township in 1998. Mrs. Acton had been employed for 15 years as a clerk at the Stop ‘N Shop in Garwood prior to retiring in 1984. She was President several times of the Auxiliary of American Legion Martin Wallberg Post No. 3 in Westfield; a Girl Scout leader in Scotch Plains; a member of the Westfield Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons and a member of the Westfield Senior Citizens. She was a former congregant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains. She was predeceased by her husband, Erwin K. Acton, in 1985. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Anne Jones of Salem; a son, Erwin Acton of Watchung; a sister, Adele Waeldner of Waverly, Pa., and two grandchildren. Private burial was to take place at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge. Arrangements were handled by the Lester Memorial Home in Jamesburg. Born in Bayonne, he had lived in Newark, Irvington and Hillside prior to moving to Mountainside 37 years ago. Mr. Slavinsky had been a vending mechanic with the Coffee-Mat Corporation and Eastern Vending in New Jersey for many years before retiring in 1997. Earlier, he had worked for Perfect Laundry and Consolidated Laundry Systems of New Jersey. Surviving are a son, Julian Stanley Slavinsky; a sister, Florence Tonks; a brother, Charles Slavinsky; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. today, Thursday, June 20, at the Mitruska Funeral Home in Fords, with entombment to take place at the Holy Cross Mausoleum in North Arlington. June 20, 2002 Dora Novello, 89 Dora Markwell Novello, 89, of Westfield died on Sunday, June 16, at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in Italy, she came to the United States in 1921 and settled in Westfield. Mrs. Novello was a former member of the Westfield Civic Club and a member of the Rosary Society and choir at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Novello, in 1987. Surviving are a son, Frank J. Novello; a daughter, Joyce Marie Ricci; a brother, Rosario Markwell; four grandchildren and three greatgrandsons. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Thursday, June 20, at St. Helen’s Church. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. PUBLICATION Gary Riccardo, 92, CSH Volunteer; Was Rosarian at St. Anne’s Church Mrs. Garentina “Gary” Riccardo, 92, of Westfield died on Friday, June 14, at her home. Born in 1910 in Summonte, Province of Avellino, Italy, the daughter Olimpia and Carmine Guerriero, she came to the United States at age 3. She had lived in Garwood before moving to Westfield 35 years ago. Mrs. Riccardo had been the bookkeeper and head of the service department at McDowell’s Oil Heat, Inc. in Westfield from 1956 until her retirement in 1972. She had earlier worked in the real estate and insurance office of George H. Riley, Sr. in Westfield, starting at age 15; as a bookkeeper and clerk for Tuttle Brothers Company in Westfield; as secretary to the President of the J.S. Irving Company in Westfield and as the bookkeeper and clerk for Deremer Builders Supply Company in Garwood. After retiring, Mrs. Riccardo was active as a volunteer at Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside and served as a volunteer secretary at its Westlake School for five years. She was a member of the Rosary Society at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Garwood. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Riccardo, in 1966 and by a daughter, Linda Riccardo Scott, in January of this year. Surviving are another daughter, Ann Holzberger of Bernardsville; two sisters, Virginia E. Guerriero and Linda C. Giuditta, both of Westfield; a brother, Carmine J. Guerriero of Garwood, and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, June 18, at St.Anne’s Church. Interment was at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia. June 20, 2002 Theodore Eitel, Jr., 93 Theodore J. Eitel, Jr., 93, of South Pasadena, Fla., died on Saturday, June 8, at the home of his daughter, Ginnie Eitel, in St. Petersburg, Fla. Born in Waterbury, Conn., he had lived in Fanwood before moving to Largo, Fla., in 1953. He later relocated to South Pasadena. Mr. Eitel had been the owner of Eitel Dairy in Fanwood. He later was a general contractor in Central Florida. Also surviving are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy M. Eitel; a son, Theodore J. Eitel, 3rd, of Seminole, Fla.; a brother, Otto Eitel of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Margaret Corby of Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Eitel of New Jersey; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Vallin, 89, Bank Executive; Was President of Mountainside Rotary Nicholas J. Vallin, 89, of North Plainfield died on Saturday, June 15, at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born and raised in Westfield, he lived in North Plainfield since 1940. Mr. Vallin had been Vice President and branch manager of the Central Jersey Bank and Trust Company of Westfield and Mountainside, now Fleet Bank, for 45 years prior to retiring in 1977. He was Secretary of the Mountainside Rotary Club. Mr. Vallin graduated from Westfield High School in 1932 and from the American Institute of Banking in 1934. He was predeceased by his wife, Francis Nargi Vallin, in 1995. Surviving are a daughter, CarolVallin; a son, Richard Vallin, and two sisters, Margaret Matteo and Nancy Zakula. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, June 18, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield. June 20, 2002 Melford F. Tietze Oscar Kriman, 82, of Westfield died on Tuesday, June 11, at his home. Born in Santiago, Chile, he moved to the United States in 1963. He lived in Westfield for almost 40 years. Mr. Kriman had worked as a technical manager at Iggam, a producer of construction supplies, in Argentina. He had also served as an editor for several technical newspapers. He was most recently employed as a private consultant in Westfield for 22 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation of Metropolitan New Jersey from 1970 to 1980. Surviving are his wife, Dr. Marianne Moser Kriman; a son, Dr. Alfred M. Kriman of Indiana; a brother, Enrique Kriman of Chile, and a sister, Sofia Rosenberg Kriman of Chile. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, at Temple Sholom in Plainfield, with Rabbi Joel Abraham officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Higgins Home for Funerals in Plainfield. Melford F. Tietze of Wilmington, Del., died on Monday, June 17, at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington. Born in Queens, N.Y., he had lived in New Jersey for more than 25 years before relocating to Wilmington in 1973. Mr. Tietze had worked for ICIAmericas as an environmental and regulatory counsel until his retirement in 1993. While living in New Jersey, he had been employed with Airco, Inc. (BOC Group) in Murray Hill. He served as Democratic Municipal Chairman for the Borough of Fanwood. After his retirement, he served as an officer on various boards, including the Fraime Center Boys Club in Wilmington. He was also a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Knights of Columbus in Wilmington. Mr. Tietze earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and also graduated from Seton Hall Law School. He was a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn M. Tietze; three sons, Frederick A. Tietze of Short Hills, Robert B. Tietze and A. George Tietze, both of Wilmington; two daughters, Susan M. Nanni of Clinton and Karen L. Tietze of Barnardville, N.C.; Jerry Dhar of Newark, Del., and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, June 21, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Wilmington. Visitation will take place today, Thursday, June 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Doherty Funeral Home in Wilmington. Interment will be at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery in Greenville, Del. Born in Newark, she was a resident of Mountainside for 54 years. Mrs. Santaniello was a homemaker and a communicant of the Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip Santaniello, Sr., in 1977. Surviving are a daughter, Ann Santaniello; two sons, Philip Santaniello and Fred Santaniello; a sister, Dora Policastro; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. today, Thursday, June 20, at the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange. June 20, 2002 Stanley Sikucinski, 86, Army Captain; Comptroller at American Cyanamid Stanley C. Sikucinski, 86, of Sarasota, Fla. died on Wednesday, June 12, at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota. Born in Trenton, he had been a Fanwood resident prior to moving to Sarasota in 1989. Mr. Sikucinski had been a comptroller for American Cyanamid in New Jersey before his retirement. He was a graduate of Rider College in Lawrenceville. He was a United States Army Captain during World War II. Mr. Sikucinski was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post No. 417 in New Jersey and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3358 in Sarasota. He was also a member of the National Association of Cost Accountants. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Frances Sikucinski; two daughters, Kathryn Lind and Mary Allegretto; a son, John Sikucinski; a sister, Louise Turner, and seven grandchildren. A Mass was offered on Monday, June 17, at the Church of the Incarnation in Sarasota. Arrangements were under the direction of the Packer Funeral Home in Sarasota. June 20, 2002
