Beirut Boat 2001Takes the region by storm
Attendance and sales
exceed expectations
In only its second year, Beirut Boat
2001 created shock waves of
excitement, pushing the region’s
marine industry to new levels of
success. This comes as no surprise to
the organizers, Messe Duesseldorforganiser of Boot Duesseldorf, the
world’s number 1 boat show, and IFPthe leading exhibitions organizer in the
Middle East, who saw the vast
untapped potential of this market. This
highly professional event was held
under the High Patronage of H.E. the
President of the Lebanese Republic,
General Emile Lahoud, and was
inaugurated by H.E. the Minister of
Tourism, Dr. Karam Karam. After a
skillful air and sea salute by the
Lebanese Navy, the show was off to a
roaring start.
Attendance and sales exceeded
expectations, and were way above last
year’s figures. Over 23,500 visitors
turned out under the clear blue Beirut
skies to see boats and super yachts of
up to 49 meters in length. VIP visitors
totalled 1,200, confirming Lebanon’s
importance as the gateway to Gulf and
Arab markets. A total of 900 visitors
came from the Middle East, Far East,
Europe, and USA. Official participation
came from the Arab Marine Industries
Association (AMIA), who organize,
develop and promote the industry in
the region, the German Federation of
Water Sports Industry (BWVS), the
Italian Boating Association (UCINA),
and the Hellenic Marine Industry
Association, SECAPLAS-PEEY, who all
confirmed the level of professionalism
and importance of the show.
