Maksim Gorky was a Soviet author and founder of the socialist realism literary method. He was

conta os passos de uma mãe que segue o filho, descobrindo a ideias socialistas, isto num
contexto de uma Rússia czarista. Penso que ideologicamente o livro está bem conseguido,
gostei especial da abordagem que faz à religião e de como a mãe começa a sentir o que é a
religião e Jesus. Acho que gostei sobretudo desta abordagem por me identificar com ela. Por
exemplo:
"Eu não estava a falar do Deus bom e misericordioso no qual a mãe acredita, mas daquele com
que os popes nos ameaçam como se fosse um cacete, um Deus em nome do qual se quer
forçar toda a gente a submeter-se à vontade cruel de alguns"
No entanto, devo confessar que acho que o livro peca por se centrar demasiado no mesmo
núcleo, tornando-se um pouco repetitivo e monótono em algumas partes. Acho que se centra
demasiado no que é o socialismo e no papel da mãe, não tendo sido muito explorado o
trabalho que faziam os camaradas (Comparei sempre este livro com o "Até Amanhã
Camaradas"), talvez esse não fosse de facto o grande objectivo do autor.
Conclusão, não achei excepcional, mas recomendo-a a toda a gente, embora acredite que é
necessário um espírito minimamente socialista para o apreciar.
