RELEASE NEW ALBUM "PONTO ENREDO"
It was in March 1996, at the stage of project CEP 20.000, presented by poet Chacal and actor Michel Melamed
at the Espaço Cultural Sérgio Porto, in Rio de Janeiro, that Pedro Luís e A Parede performed for the first time.
Since then, the carioca band formed by Pedro Luís (vocals and guitars), Mário Moura (bass), C.A. Ferrari,
Sidon Silva and Celso Alvim (drums and percussion) has released six albums and two DVDs. The band has
toured Brazil, Japan, France, Portugal, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium and the United States. Their
track Pena de Vida figures among the 50 Brazilian songs most played in Japan. In 2000, they created the
percussion workshops of Monobloco, triggering one of the greatest phenomena of street carnival revitalization
in Rio de Janeiro. In September 2008, the band will return to the scene with their new CD, Ponto Enredo,
produced by Lenine. For the new album and subsequent tour, the band features a new member, guitarist Léo
Saad.
The new album
Ponto Enredo is the band's first album of new material since Zona e Progresso (PLAP/MP,B/Universal, 2001).
Produced by Lenine, the album showcases songs in a variety of genres, all written by Pedro Luís, some cowritten by Zé Renato, Lenine, Lula Queiroga, Roque Ferreira, Carlos Rennó and Suely Mesquita.
Recorded and mixed by Renato Alscher, the album features some very special guests: Zeca Pagodinho (Ela
Tem a Beleza Que Nunca Sonhei), Lenine (4 Horizontes), Roberta Sá (Luz da Nobreza), Serginho Trombone e
Paulão 7 Cordas (Ela Tem a Beleza Que Nunca Sonhei), A Trombonada (Cantiga) and MiniStereo, a duo
formed by Junior Tolstoi and Rodrigo Campello (Tem Juízo Mas Não Usa).

‘Brazilian batucada’
A mix of samba, swing and rock-'n'-roll characterizes the musical style of the group. In the beginning of their
career, when asked by a foreign journalist what kind of sound they made, the band found the perfect definition:
"Brazilian batucada with a rock-'n'-roll pressure" — they promptly answered. Their first album, entitled
"Astronauta Tupy" (Dubas/Warner) was released in 1997 and featured guest stars Ney Matogrosso, Fernanda
Abreu, Lenine and Arícia Mess. Tracks like Máquina de Escrever (Mathilda Kóvak), Tudo Vale a Pena (Pedro
Luís and Fernanda Abreu) and Soul (Pedro Luís) were among its highlights.
In 1999, they released É Tudo 1 Real, produced by Liminha, with artistic direction by Tom Capone. The album
included the songs Rap do Real (Rodrigo Maranhão and Pedro Luís), Menina Bonita (Pedro Luís, Alexandre

Two years later, they released Zona e Progresso for the MP,B label, with distribution by Universal Music. The
album included Batalha Naval (Pedro Luis and Bianca Ramoneda), Morbidance (Lula Queiroga, Felipe Falcão
and Lucky Luciano), Zona e Progresso (Suely Mesquita, Pedro Luis and Arícia Mess), Do Leme ao Leblon
(Carlos Negreiros) and Saudação ao Toco Preto (Candeia).
In 2004, the group released Vagabundo, a collaborative work with singer Ney Matogrosso which was released
as a live album a year later and also became a DVD set. That same year, PLAP and Monobloco received the
Rival Award for Career Achievement. Aside from their own albums, characterized by a strong rhythmic
language coupled with lively bass grooves, PLAP have been lending their sound to renowned artists such as
Lenine (Na Pressão), Adriana Calcanhotto (Maritmo), Ney Matogrosso (Olhos de Farol), Carlos Malta and
Pife Muderno, and Japanese drummer Takashi Numazawa.
THE MUSICIANS
Pedro Luís — One of the most celebrated musicians and composers in Rio's musical scene, Pedro has been
hailed, since the early 90's, as a great innovator of Brazilian popular music, mixing samba, rap, rock, hip-hop,
maracatu and funk. During the 80's and 90's, he participated in cultural movements with bands like Boato,
Urge and Paris 400 (which accompanied theatre group Asdrúbal Trouxe o Trombone in the play "A Farra da
Terra"). He started to call attention as a guitar player and musical director in the shows of Arícia Mess. Songs
by Pedro Luís have been recorded by Fernanda Abreu, O Rappa, Ed Motta, Cidade Negra, Adriana
Calcanhotto, Ney Matogrosso, Roberta Sá, Maria Rita, Elba Ramalho, Lenine, Lula Queiroga, Miyazawa
Kazufumi, Paralamas do Sucesso and Herbert Vianna, in his solo album, O Som do Sim.
C.A. Ferrari — He began playing at 17, in an improvised drum set made of cardboard boxes and cork pieces,
without a bass drum and featuring completely rusty cymbals. In those days, he worked as a roadie for the band
Cheiro de Vida, in exchange for drum lessons. On the road for more than 20 years, C.A. has played with Alceu
Valença, Antônio Saraiva, Arícia Mess, Eduardo Dussek and Pepeu Gomes, among other great names of
Brazilian popular music.
Celso Alvim — He began his career as a drummer, in 1988, playing with bands like João Penca e Seus
Miquinhos Amestrados. Little by little, he became interested in the universe of Brazilian percussion. In 1990,
he performed as a percussionist in the show of Antônio Saraiva, at Espaço Cultural Sérgio Porto. This work
had a strong influence in the future concept of PLAP. He currently plays drums and percussion with PLAP,
coordinates the workshops of Monobloco and plays in the Monobloco Show.
Mário Moura — He began to play music thanks to his grandfather, Mário, who taught him his first guitar
chords. Years later, he began to study and play bass, collaborating in the work of many singers. In the mid90's, he met Pedro Luís and his future bandmates in the shows of Arícia Mess — even though PLAP didn't
exist yet. Mário was a member of the band Rotnitxe, formed by Tom Capone, Mongol, Mauro Manzolli and
André Rafael. Together, they released an album and went on tour for more than two years. The band
eventually broke up and Mário jettisoned music for a while to work with informatics. Then, he was invited by
Pedro Luís to play in a show at the project CEP 20.000, where PLAP was formed. In the workshops of
Monobloco, Mário is responsible for the surdo formation, together with Mestre Maurão. In the Monobloco
Show, he plays surdo and bass.

Sidon Silva— He began playing in 1988, taking drum classes with Élcio Cafaro. He pestered his teacher for a
roadie position and eventually got the job. He filled this position for two years and came across some people
who were fundamental in his career, like Joe Vasconcellos (now a Chilean pop star), Leo Leobons (an AfroCuban musician) and Antônio Saraiva. While playing with Saraiva, in 1992, Sidon met Celso Alvim. Two
years later, Saraiva invited Sidon to play in a show with singers Arícia Mess and Pedro Luís. It was on that
occasion that he met C.A. and Mário Moura. In 1996, Pedro was invited by Michel Melamed to perform in the
event CEP 20.000 and called C.A. and Sidon. Sidon suggested they called Celso Alvim. Since then, he hasn't
stopped.
Leonardo Saad — He began to play professionally with the band Boato, participating in the their album,
released in the late 1990's. In 2000, he joined the percussion workshops of Monobloco and had classes with
Afro-Cuban musician Leo Leobons and Afro-Brazilian musician Nei de Oxóssi — two of the greatest
drumming masters in Brazil. Leonardo has played with Cabelo, Sérgio Loroza, Ramiro Musotto, Lucas
Santtana, Leo Leobons, Nei de Oxóssi, Erenilton Bispo dos Santos, Botecoeletro and Rita Ribeiro, among
others. He currently performs with Monobloco and Pedro Luís e A Parede. He is also developing a musical
project with Cabelo and teaching percussion in the workshops of Monobloco.
