OPERATIONAL BRIEFING TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTS | SEPTEMBER 17 The Rio Operation Center newsletter would like to inform today’s main interventions in the city’s streets for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Highlights of the day detailed in this document include: - Pontal: road closures will happen in Recreio, Serra de Grumari, Serra da Grota Funda and Barra de Guaratiba, with different closures from 12:00 am to 6:00 pm. In Barra de Guaratiba, Estrada Roberto Burle Marx is closed from 7:00 am at 4:00 pm, also closed for residents. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEXT FEW DAYS Tomorrow, Sep 18, road closures take place in Copacabana, for the marathon, and in Maracanã, for the Closing Ceremony of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. TODAY’S ROAD CLOSURES COPACABANA REGION The beachside lane on Avenida Atlântica remains closed between Rua Francisco Otaviano and Rua Miguel Lemos due to the marathon scheduled for tomorrow (Sep 18). BARRA REGION Pontal For the street race, there are road closures in the Pontal region in the following routes and times: From 12:00 am to 6:00 pm • Avenida Lúcio Costa, in both directions, near Recreio and Praia da Reserva; • Estrada Benvindo de Novaes, between Avenida Lúcio Costa and Rua Newton Fontoura Reis. • Estrada do Pontal, between Av. Gilka Machado and Av. Estado da Guanabara. - Av. Estado da Guanabara, between Estrada do Pontal and Estrada do Grumari, - Estrada do Grumari; • Estrada Benvindo de Novaes, between Avenida Lúcio Costa and Rua Newton Fontoura Reis; From 7:00 am to 4:00 pm • Estrada do Pontal, between Av. das Américas and the bridge under Canal de Sernambetiba; • Estrada Roberto Burle Marx, both ways, in its entirety; • Avenida das Américas, between Estrada Roberto Burle Marx and Estrada do Pontal (Serra da Grota Funda). Also, Avenida Lúcio Costa remains partially closed on lanes heading for Barra, between Avenida Gilka Machado and Avenida Albert Sabin; ALTERNATE ROUTES Vehicles must give preference to Avenida das Américas, both ways. Olympic Park The Olympic Park, in Barra da Tijuca, is the site with the largest number of competitions of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. The car bans in the surroundings of the Park begin on September 3 with the closure of Avenida Olof Palm. Daily closures have happened since September 7, when the Games started. Today’s road closures take place from 6:00 am to 12:00 am on: • Avenida Salvador Allende, outside lanes, between Rua Célia Ribeiro da Silva Mendes and Estrada dos Bandeirantes; • Av. Embaixador Abelardo Bueno, from Shopping Metropolitano to Av. Salvador Allende; • Avenida Olof Palm, from Estrada dos Bandeirantes to Av. Salvador Allende; • Avenida Abraão Jabour, between Av. Olof Palm and Av. Salvador Allende; • Rua Pedro Calmon, between Av. Abraão Jabour and Av. Salvador Allende; • Via Inominada, between Estrada dos Bandeirantes and Av. Abraão Jabour; • Stretch on Estrada Coronel Pedro Corrêa; • • • • • • Rua Aroazes; Avenida Jaime Poggi; Rua Francisco de Paula; Rua Jorge Faraj; Rua Alfredo Ceschiatti; Rua Mário Agostinelli. ALTERNATE ROUTES Throughout the Paralympics, vehicles heading for Linha Amarela must use Avenida das Américas and Avenida Ayrton Senna. RESIDENTS Residents in the surrounding areas of the Olympic Park must access the region with a credential, which shall be fixed on the car windshield, or with proof of residence. Due to the large number of pedestrians in the blocked area, we ask that residents avoid traveling by car whenever possible. MARACANÃ REGION Olympic Stadium (Engenhão) The Olympic Stadium, in Engenho de Dentro, receives the athletics competitions of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Since July 23, the city of Rio has implemented reversal lanes that will continue reversed until the end of the Paralympics. Closures for the athletics competitions occur from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, on the following routes: - Rua Afonso Ferreira, in its entirety; - Rua Benício de Abreu, in its entirety; - Rua Bento Gonçalves, on the stretch between Rua Guilhermina and Rua José dos Reis; - Rua Comendador João Carneiro de Almeida, between Rua Piauí and Rua Sales Guimarães; - Rua Coronel Cunha Leal, in its entirety; - Rua das Oficinas, in its entirety; - Rua Dona Eugênia, in its entirety; - Rua Doutor Padilha, in its entirety; - Rua Henrique Scheid, between Rua José dos reis and Rua das Oficinas; - Rua General Clarindo, in its entirety; - Rua Gentil Araújo, in its entirety; - Rua Guineza, in its entirety; - Rua José dos Reis, between Rua Henrique Scheid and Rua Arquias Cordeiro - Rua Luís Silva, in its entirety - Rua Sales Guimarães, in its entirety. Rua Arquias Cordeiro will only be closed at peak hours for visitors leaving the stadium, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Access to Hospital Memorial With the closure of Rua José dos Reis on competition days – starting at Rua Bento Gonçalves – left-hand traffic will be used to reach Hospital Memorial. Drivers must access Rua Goiás through Rua José dos Reis, which will have a stretch of left-hand traffic. TRANSPORT METRO RIO (Subway) Line 4 - Between September 7 and 18, ticket holders can use the service. Jardim Oceânico station will have its service extended to 1:00 am of the next day, to serve visitors attending competitions at the Olympic Park between September 8 and 17. Other stations will remain open for outgoing passengers between 12:00 am and the last train to arrive at Jardim Oceânico, including its connections. Until Sep 18, subway lines (1, 2 and 4) will be open from 5:00 am to 12:00 am on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm on Sundays and holidays. On subway lines 1 and 2, connections should be made at Central and Botafogo stations, even on weekends and holidays. On September 18, day of the closing ceremony, Maracanã, São Cristóvão and São Francisco Xavier stations will carry passengers exiting the event, while the other stations will be open for outgoing passengers only. Metro Rio website: https://www.metrorio.com.br/ SUPERVIA (railway) The railway system will operate with shorter intervals on Deodoro, Santa Cruz and Japeri lines, according to the following schedule: Lines Weekdays Saturdays/Holidays Sundays Deodoro 6 minutes 6 minutes 8 minutes Santa Cruz 8 minutes 12 minutes 15 minutes Japeri 12 minutes 12 minutes 15 minutes The commercial operation will be maintained to ensure the public can easily return home. In stations connecting with the subway, Supervia trains will leave from Central do Brasil until 2:05 am (Japeri line) and 2:10 am (Santa Cruz line). After the end of the commercial operation, the intervals will be 30 minutes long. Stations connected to BRT services that will be open for incoming passengers are: Madureira (up to 2:39 am), Vila Militar (until 2:53 am) and Magalhães Bastos (until 2:55 am). All other stations will be open for outgoing passengers only. Supervia website: http://www.supervia.com.br/ BRT The Paralympic Mobility plan will have two special BRT services — linking Jardim Oceânico to Terminal Olímpico (Olympic Center), and Vicente de Carvalho to Terminal Paralímpico (Recreio) — as well as train and subway systems. Passengers can use any Riocard, including the Bilhete Único Carioca, a unified basic fare card for residents of Rio. Tickets will be required for inspection only when taking Subway Line 4. BRT Rio website: http://www.brtrio.com/ VLT The VLT Carioca (LRT) is one of the transport options to get to the Porto Maravilha Olympic Boulevard, in the Port Region. VLT Carioca website: http://www.vltrio.com.br/ FERRIES Ferries will operate from 5:30 am to midnight, with intervals of 10 minutes during morning rush hours (6:30 am-10:00 am), and in the afternoon from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. The operation will ensure that the public can return home from the Olympic Boulevard. The service might be extended to 00:30 am and offer additional trips.
