OPERATIONAL BRIEFING
OPERATIONS SUMMARY | SEPTEMBER 15
The Center of Operations Rio's News (bulletin), informs about main interventions made
in the city's traffic for the Rio 2016 Paralympics Games. Highlighted on this documents
are:
- Pontal: due to competitions happening on the street, roadblocks will placed at
Avenida Lúcio Costa; Estr. Benvindo de Novaes, between Av. Pedro Moura from
Midnight to 6:00 PM.
MAIN TOPICS FOR THE NEXT DAYS
Tomorrow, September 16, the closed streets in Portal region will be at Av. Lúcio Costa,
Estrada do Pontal and Av. Estado da Guanabara from Midnight to 12:00 PM and Av.
Lúcio Costa; Estr. Benvindo de Novaes, between Av. Pedro Moura from Midnight to
6:00 PM.
In Copacabana, the seaside lane of Avenida Atlântica will be closed at 10:00 PM
between Rua Francisco Otaviano and Rua Miguel Lemos for structure assembling.
TODAY'S ROADBLOCKS
BARRA REGION
Pontal
Due to the competition, the following streets will be closed in the Pontal region from
Midnight to 6:00 PM:

Avenida Lúcio Costa, both ways, near Recreio and Reserva
Estr. Benvindo de Novaes, between Av. Lúcio Costa and R. Newton Fontoura Reis.

Av. Pedro Moura between Av. Lúcio Costa and R. Acontecências.
Adding to it, Av. Lúcio Costa will be kept closed in the section heading to Barra,
between Avenida Gilka Machado and Avenida Albert Sabin until September 17.
Olympic Park
The Olympic Park at Barra da Tijuca is the location where most competitions of Rio
2016 Paralympics Games will take place. Streets in the surroundings of the Park will be
closed starting on September 3, with roadblocks raised on Avenida Olof Palme. There
are daily roadblocks in nearby areas since September 7, when the Games began:
Streets closed from 6:00 AM to midnight:
• Av. Salvador Allende, side lanes, between Av. Célia Ribeiro da Silva Mendes and
Estrada dos Bandeirantes;
• Av. Embaixador Abelardo Bueno, heading to Ayrton Senna, between Salvador
Allende and Pedro Correa;
• Av. Olof Palm, from Estrada dos Bandeirantes to Av. Salvador Allende;
• Av. Abraão Jabour, between Av. Olof Palma and Av. Salvador Allende;
• Rua Pedro Calmon, between Av. Abraão Jabour and Av. Salvador Allende;
• Via Inominada, between Estrada dos Bandeirantes and Av. Abraão Jabour ;
ALTERNATIVE ROUTES:
During the Paralympics, vehicles heading to Linha Amarela must get there by Avenida
das Américas and Avenida Ayrton Senna.
RESIDENTS
The people who live near the Olympic Park will need credentials to access the region.
The credentials must be glued in their vehicles' windshield. Proof of residence is
required for pedestrians.
Due to the large number of pedestrians expected in the area, residents are asked not
to use their cars if possible.
DEODORO REGION
Until September 16, the surroundings of Deodoro Sports Complex will hold daily
roadblocks due to the 2016 Paralympics Games. They will be established from 6:00 AM
until 9:00 PM in the following streets:

Est. de Gericinó - on both directions- accessing Est. da Equitação;
Side lane of Av. Brasil, next to Youth Arena;
MARACANÃ REGION
Olympic Stadium (Engenhão)
The Olympic Stadium, in Engenho de Dentro, will hold the athletics competitions of Rio
2016 Paralympics Games. Since July 23, Rio's City Hall has implemented the inversion
of direction in some streets, which will remain so until the end of the Paralympics.
The following streets will be closed daily due to the athletics competitions, from 7:00
AM to 11:00 PM, until September 17 :
- Rua Afonso Ferreira (in its entirety)
- Rua Benício de Abreu (in its entirety)
- Rua Bento Gonçalves, between Rua Guilhermina and Rua José dos Reis;
- Rua Comendador João Carneiro, between Rua Piauí and Rua Sales Guimarães;
- Rua Coronel Cunha Leal (in its entirety)
- Rua das Oficinas (in its entirety)
- Rua Dona Eugênia (in its entirety)
- Rua Doutor Padilha (in its entirety)
- Rua Henrique Scheid, between Rua José dos Reis and Rua das Oficinas;
- Rua General Clarindo (in its entirety)
- Rua Gentil Araújo (in its entirety)
- Rua Guineza (in its entirety)
- Rua José dos Reis, between Rua Henrique Scheid and Rua Arquias Cordeiro;
- Rua Luís Silva (in its entirety)
- Rua Sales Guimarães (in its entirety)
Rua Arquias Cordeiro will only be closed during moments with a great flux of people
leaving the stadium, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM and from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
Access to Hospital Memorial
With the roadblock at Rua José dos Reis on competition days, a reversible lane will be
implemented starting on Rua Bento Gonçalves , providing direct access to Hospital
Memorial. Drivers must use Rua Goiás to reach Rua José dos Reis, where there will
follow left-hand traffic.
TRASPORTATION
METRÔ RIO (SUBWAY)
Line 4- Between September 7 and September 18, ticket holders will be able to use the
service. Due to the Olympic Park competitions going on between September 8 and
September 17, Jardim Oceânico station will have its working hours extended until 1:00
AM of the next day. All other stations will be open to disembark-only between
midnight and the arrival of the last train coming from Jardim Oceânico station and its
connections.
Until September 18, the working hours of the three subway lines (1, 2 and 4) will be
from 5:00 AM to midnight from Monday to Saturday, and from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM
on Sundays and holidays. On Lines 1 and 2, transference will be possible between
Central and Botafogo stations, including on weekends and holidays.
On September 7 and September 18 (the opening and closing ceremony respectively),
the stations Maracanã, São Cristóvão and São Francisco Xavier will be kept open for the
public leaving the events. All other stations will only be open for disembarking.

SUPERVIA (TRAIN)
The train system will have the intervals between trains reduced in the lines Deodoro,
Santa Cruz and Japeri according to the following chart:

The operation will go on to guarantee the mobility of the public exiting competition
venues. At the stations connected to the subway system, Supervia trains will depart
from Central do Brasil up until 2:05 AM (Japeri Line) and 2:10 (Santa Cruz Line) After
the operation, the intervals between trains will be of 30 minutes. Stations connected to
the BRTs and open for disembark are: Madureira (until 2:39 AM), Vila Militar (until 2:53
AM) and Magalhães Bastos (until 2:55). All other stations will be open for disembark
only.

BRT (Rapid Transit Bus)
The Paralympics Mobility Plan will have two special BRT services - connecting Jardim
Oceânico Olympic Terminal (Olympic Center) and Vicente de Carvalho Paralympic
Terminal (Recreio) - beside the train and subway systems. Embark will be available by
using Riocard and Bilhete Único Carioca. Subway Line 4 will be available for Paralympics
ticket holders only.
At Deodoro region, BRT Transolímpica - which is already open to the public - will also
be available to competition spectators, the same goes for the train system. For the 7-aside soccer and shooting events, the closest station is Vila Militar. For the Equestrian
Center, however, users are advised to use the São José de Magalhães Bastos station for
both the BRT and the train.

VLT (Light Rail Train)
VLT is one of the public transportation alternatives to reach the Olympic Boulevard at
Porto Maravilha, in the Port region.

FERRYBOAT
The ferryboats will be at work from 5:30 AM until midnight, with regular 10 minutes
intervals during rush hours in the morning (6:30 AM to 10 AM), and afternoon (4:30
PM to 8:00 PM). The operation will guarantee the public's mobility for events in the
Olympic Boulevard, with the possibility of a working hours extension until 0:30 AM as
well as extra trips.
