TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS | SEPTEMBER 12
The Rio Operations Center's News Bulletin informs today's major interventions on the
city’s streets, for the realization of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Today's highlights
are the following:
- Pontal: Av. Lúcio Costa will remain interdicted from today (Sept. 12) until September
17, towards Barra, between Avenida Gilka Machado and Avenida Albert Sabin, in
preparation for the street competitions in the region.
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE COMING DAYS
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, the Pontal region will have interdictions from 00:00 am to
06:00 pm, on Avenida Lúcio Costa and Estrada Benvindo de Novaes, for the street
competition. Whereas on Thursday, Sept. 15, the traffic closures include Avenida Lúcio
Costa; Estrada Benvindo de Novaes and Av. Pedro Moura, also from 00:00 am to 06:00
pm.
TODAY'S INTERDICTIONS
BARRA REGION
Pontal
Between September 14 and 17, there will be street competitions which will affect
neighborhoods Recreio dos Bandeirantes and Barra de Guaratiba. The interdictions
start today, Sept. 12, with the interdiction of Av. Lúcio Costa, towards Barra, between
Avenida Gika Machado and Avenida Albert Sabin, starting at 00:00 am. Interdiction
release is estimated for September 17.
OLYMPIC PARK
The Olympic Park at Barra da Tijuca is the location where most competitions of the Rio
2016 Paralympics Games will take place. The interdictions of the traffic routes on the
park’s surroundings started on September 3, with the closing of Avenida Olof Palme.
There are daily interdictions in the surroundings, since September 7, the Games
starting date.
Interdictions from 6 am to midnight today:
• Av. Salvador Allende, side lanes, Av. Célia Ribeiro da Silva Mendes, and Estrada dos
Bandeirantes;
• Av. Embaixador Abelardo Bueno, towards Ayrton Senna, between Salvador Allende
and Pedro Correa;
• Av. Olof Palm, from Estrada dos Bandeirantes up to Av. Salvador Allende;
• Abraão Jabour, between Av. Olof Palma and Av. Salvador Allende;
• R. Pedro Calmon, between Av. Abraão Jabour and Av. Salvador Allende;
• Via Inominada, between Estrada dos Bandeirantes and Av. Abraão Jabour;
ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
During the Paralympics, the vehicles heading to Linha Amarela must get there by
Avenida das Américas and Avenida Ayrton Senna.
RESIDENTS
Residents in the surroundings of the Olympic Park will need to present proof of
residence or credentials to access the region. The credentials must be affixed to the
windshield of the vehicles.
Due to a large number of pedestrians in the interdicted area, we ask residents to avoid
the use of private vehicles whenever possible.
DEODORO REGION
Until September 16, the surroundings of the Deodoro Sports Complex will have daily
interdictions, to receive the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games competitions. The
interdictions take place from 6 am to 9 pm, on the following traffic routes:

Av. São Pedro de Alcântara between Rua Nazaré and Rua Melbourne;
Estrada de Gericinó (both ways), on the access to Estrada da Equitação;
Right-side lane of Av. Brasil, close to the Arena da Juventude;
MARACANÃ REGION
Olympic Stadium (Engenhão)
The Olympic Stadium, in Engenho de Dentro, will stage the athletics competitions in
the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Since July 23, Rio City Hall has inverted the traffic
direction on some of the streets nearby the Olympic Stadium, which will stay that way
until the end of the Paralympic Games.
The interdictions required for the athletics competitions occur daily, until September
17, from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm, on the following traffic routes:
- Rua Afonso Ferreira, in its full length;
- Rua Benício de Abreu, in its full length;
- Rua Bento Gonçalves, between Rua Guilhermina and Rua José dos Reis;
- Rua Comendador João Carneiro de Almeida, between Rua Piauí and Rua Sales
Guimarães;
- Rua Coronel Cunha Leal, in its full length;
- Rua das Oficinas, in its full length;
- Rua Dona Eugênia, in its full length;
- Rua Doutor Padilha, in its full length;
- Rua Henrique Scheid, between Rua José dos Reis and Rua das Oficinas;
- Rua General Clarindo, in its full length;
- Rua Gentil Araújo, in its full length;
- Rua Guineza, in its full length;
- Rua José dos Reis, between Rua Henrique Scheid and Rua Arquias Cordeiro;
- Rua Luís Silva, in its full length;
- Rua Sales Guimarães, in its full length.
The street Arquias Cordeiro will be interdicted only at peak hours of spectators
leaving the stadium, from 12 pm and 2 pm, and from 7:30 pm to 09:30 pm.
Access to Hospital Memorial
With the interdiction of Rua José dos Reis on competition days, starting on Rua Bento
Gonçalves, a left-hand lane will be implemented for access to the Hospital Memorial.
Drivers must use Rua Goiás to reach Rua José dos Reis, where there will be left-hand
traffic.
TRANSPORTATION MODES
RIO SUBWAY
Line 4 – Between September 7 and 18, tickets holders may use the line. The Jardim
Oceânico station will extend its schedule until 1:00 am the next day, to serve the
Olympic Park competitions, between September 8 and 17. The other stations will
remain open for disembarkments only between midnight and the last train’s arrival,
coming from Jardim Oceânico Station and its connections.
Until September 18, the opening hours of the three Lines (1, 2 and 4) will be from 5:00
am to midnight on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm on Sundays
and public holidays. On Lines 1 and 2, the transfer will be made between Central and
Botafogo, even on weekends and holidays.
On September 7 and 18, the days on which the opening and closing ceremonies will
take place, respectively, the subway stations Maracanã, São Cristóvão, and São
Francisco Xavier will serve the public exiting the events. The other stations will remain
open only for disembarkments.

SUPERVIA
The rail system will circulate with reduced intervals between trains, on branches
Deodoro, Santa Cruz, and Japeri, according to the following table:

The commercial operation will be maintained to ensure the flow of the public coming
from the competition venues. In the stations that connect with the Subway, the
Supervia trains will leave from Central do Brasil station until 2:05 am ( Japeri branch)
and 2:10 am (Santa Cruz branch). After the end of the commercial operation, the
intervals will be 30 minutes. The stations integrating with the BRT system, open for
passenger boarding are: Madureira (up to 2:39 am), Vila Militar (until 2:53 am) and
Magalhães Bastos (up to 2:55 am). All other stations will be open for disembarkment.

BRT
The Paralympic Mobility plan will have two special BRT services — connecting Jardim
Oceânico to the Olympic Terminal (Olympic Center) and the Vicente de Carvalho
Paralympic Terminal (Recreio) — as well as the train and subway systems. To embark
on the transportation modes, passengers can use any Riocard, including the Bilhete
Único Carioca. Tickets will only be required for inspection when taking Subway Line 4.
In the Deodoro region, the Transolímpica BRT, which is already open to the population,
will also serve the spectators, helping to supplement the railway service. For the
Football 7-a-side and Shooting competitions, the nearest station is Vila Militar. While
for the Equestrian Center, in the equestrian competitions, the recommendation for
both the train and the BRT, are the São José de Magalhães Bastos stations.

LRT
The LRT is one of the means of transportation to the Olympic Boulevard in Porto
Maravilha, at the Port Area.

FERRIES
The ferries will operate from 5:30 am to midnight, with 10-minute intervals in rush
hours in the morning, from 6:30 am to 10:00 am, and in the afternoon, from 4:30 pm
to 8:00 pm. The operation will ensure the flow for the public to leave the events from
the Olympic Boulevard, with the possibility of extension up to 00:30 am, including extra
trips.
