Tail Shafts
Teignbridge manufacture tail-shaft assemblies up to 250mm
diameter in variety of materials. The most popular material
used today is high-strength duplex stainless steel.
Propulsion systems for superyachts
and commercial vessels
Teignbridge was the first company to use this material
for propeller shafts and gave it the trade name of
TEMET 25. Over 30,000 shafts of all
sizes have been supplied since 1990.
Other materials regularly used are stainless
type 316 for lower powered applications and
Monel K500 shafts are supplied to commercial
boatbuilders and also to the RNLI.
All shafts are precision straightened prior
to machining to tight tolerances and are
supplied with an inspection certificate.
Hydraulically fitted tapers
Propellers and half-couplings for superyachts are usually
supplied keyless, hydraulically fitted. Teignbridge have
a wealth of experience in producing this type of
equipment to very close tolerances.
Seals
Various designs of shaft seal are
manufactured in-house to suit any application.
Sterntube end fittings can also be designed
to suit any type of proprietary seal. The seals
shown in the picture are of a lip seal design with
an integral emergency inflatable seal.

and have been manufactured for a twin screw super
yacht of 50 metres OAL. The shaft diameter is 130mm
and also shown are rope guards, flanged bearings and
