HISTÓRIA
HEFSIBA ISC é uma instituição de Ensino Superior privada
orientada por valores cristãos e foi fundada como uma Escola
Bíblica da Igreja Reformada em Moçambique (IRM) em 1994.
Ele está situado em Vila Ulónguè, Angónia, província de Tete,
em Moçambique. Em 2004, tornou-se a primeira instituição de
ensino superior na província de Tete, oferecendo o grau de
Bacharelato em Teologia. HEFSIBA ISC e alguns de seus
professores também estão credenciados pela North-West
University (NWU), África do Sul e estudantes de teologia nos
cursos de pós-graduação têm acesso nas
universidades de Stellenbosch e North-West
(Africa do Sul).
HEFSIBA ISC, tem um registo orgulhoso de produzir líderes
de integridade. Os nossos estudantes estão a fazer um
impacto visível e sustentável na sociedade "a partir de Maputo
até Rovuma." As Comissões Sinodais de todos os sínodos da
Igreja Reformada em Moçambique consistem quase
inteiramente de ex-estudantes do HEFSIBA. Uma quantidade
crescente dos docentes de outras instituições teológicas em
Moçambique e Angola estudaram ou estão a estudar no
Hefsiba ISC. Os pastores de diferentes denominações que
beberam das águas teológicas no HEFSIBA ISC, são ministros,

FACULDADES
HEFSIBA ISC, expandiu-se ao longo dos últimos anos duma
faculdade pequena teológica interdenominacional para uma
instituição multidisciplinar, com três faculdades:
Faculdade de Teologia
Esta faculdade ministra vários cursos de tempo integral que
foram projetados para capacitar a liderança na igreja,
nomeadamente:
• Certificado de Evangelismo (um ano)
• Certificado de Teologia para as esposas dos estudantes de
Teologia (três anos)
• Diploma em Teologia (três anos)
• Licenciatura em Teologia (quatro anos)
• Mestrado em Teologia, em colaboração com o Instituto
Bíblico de Portugal (semi-presencial, 3 anos).
Nesta faculdade são leccionadas disciplinas como Antigo e
Novo Testamento, Teologia Sistemática, Ética,
Aconselhamento Pastoral, Evangelismo Infantil, Educação
Cristã, Ministério Juvenil, Homilética,
Liderança, Desenvolvimento

A partir de 2013 o HEFSIBA ISC está a oferecer vários
cursos de curta duração, como Mediação e Gestão de

para equipar a comunidade.

A Faculdade de Teologia do HEFSIBA ISC, está acreditada
pela North West University ((NWU-Potchefstroom) África
do Sul, assim como alguns docentes desta faculdade.
Presentemente, a Faculdade de Psicologia está num processo
de parceria que poderá conduzir a um Memorando de
Entendimento com o Instituto Psicológico Cristão de
Germiston, África do Sul.

HEFSIBA ISC, também trabalha em estreita colaboração com
a Universidade de Stellenbosch (US) e outras organizações
como a Comissão de Testemunho da Igreja Reformada do
Cabo Ocidental (África do Sul), GZB (Holanda), NetACT
(SADC) e PROFORTE (Moçambique). HEFSIBA ISC é
considerado um modelo de excelência para outras
instituições de ensino superior na África sub-Saariana.
Workshops por docentes de HEFSIBA são regularmente
dados em Desenvolvimento Curricular e Administração em
vários países como Zimbabwe, Zâmbia, Malawi, Namíbia,
Angola e Quênia.
Em colaboração como o Instituto Bíblico de Portugal (IBP),
desde 2012 o HEFSIBA passou a ser o centro focal para o
curso de Mestrado em Teologia em Moçambique. A decisão
foi tomada pelo facto de HEFSIBA ISC ser actualmente um
instituto superior oficialmente acreditado, reconhecido e
autorizado pelo Governo da República de Moçambique.
Existem várias outras instituições que oferecem cursos de
Teologia em Moçambique, mas sem a acreditação do
Governo da República de Moçambique.

HEFSIBA has a proud record of producing top leaders of
integrity. Our students are making a visible and sustainable
impact on society “from Ruvuma to Maputo.” The Synodal
Committees of all the synods of the Reformed Church in
Mozambique consist almost entirely of former students of
HEFSIBA. An increasing number of lecturers of other theological
institutions in Mozambique and Angola studied or are studying
with us. Pastors from different denominations who drank from
the Reformed-orientated theological waters here are successful
ministers of the Word in urban and also remote rural areas in
Mozambique, Angola and even in South Africa. Alumni and
current students from the Faculties of Psychology and Economics
are now activists for democracy and justice and are fighting
against corruption. Examples are many, but to name a few: the
recently appointed Administrator of the district Domwe is a
2011 theological graduate of our institute; the first mayor of the
Municipal Council of Vila Ulónguè is a final year student of the
Psychology Faculty; the head inspector of Social Care in the
province of Tête is an old student with an Honours degree from
our institution and one of the senior lecturers of the
Mozambique army with a Master's degree in Theology is now
lecturing in Ethics at their Academy.
BACKGROUND
HEFSIBA is a private Christian value-driven tertiary
institution which was founded as a Bible School of the
Reformed Church in Mozambique (IRM) in 1994. It is
situated at Vila Ulónguè, Angónia in the Tête Province in
northwestern Mozambique. In 2004, the Government of
Mozambique offered tertiary institution status to HEFSIBA,
and it became the first institution of higher education in the
province offering a Bachelor Degree in Theology. HEFSIBA
and some of her lecturers are also accredited by the NorthWest University (NWU) in South Africa and post-graduate
theological students have access to Stellenbosch University
(SU) in South Africa without the need for a bridging year.

order to maintain a good academic quality. The Executive
Committee of HEFSIBA ICHE consists of Mozambicans with
degrees in Theology. The General Director is Rev. Manasse
Matiquele, the Vice-General Director is Rev. Samuel Matunda
and the Academic Director is Rev. Miguel Nobre.
FACULTIES
HEFSIBA has expanded over the last few years from a small
denominational theological college to a multidisciplinary
institution with three faculties:
Faculty of Theology
This faculty offers the following full-time courses which were
designed to empower leaders in the church:
• a certificate in Evangelism (one year)
• a certificate of Theology for the wives of Theology students
(three years)
• a diploma in Theology (three years)
• a degree in Theology including Honours (four years)
• a Master's degree in Theology in collaboration with IBP from
Portugal
It offers subjects like Old and New Testament, Systematic
Theology, Ethics, Pastoral Care, Child Evangelism, Christian
Education,Youth Work, Homiletics, Leadership, Community
Development, English and Computer Literacy.
HEFSIBA recognises the importance of family life. Full-time
students are therefore encouraged to bring along their spouses
and children for the duration of their studies. Special attention is
paid to the wives, since they need to be spiritually and emotionally
equipped to support their spouses in their future ministries. The
women's course includes Old and New Testament studies,
Children's Ministry, Homiletics, Needlework, Cooking, Women's
Pastoral Work and Medical care.
Courses are also offered as distance training courses, especially
the Honours and Master's degrees.

This faculty offers an Honours degree in Psychology and lasts four
years. It is especially designed for part-time students and is a
Christian-based counselling degree.
It offers subjects like Psychology, Ethics, Entrepreneurship,
Community Development, Philosophy, Computer Literacy, English
and Leadership.
Faculty of Economics and Management
In this faculty we focus on strong moral values, academic
excellence, a professional approach, visionary leadership, financial
sustainability and transparency. We offer an Honours degree in
Business Administration and Accounting (four years).
This faculty offers subjects such as:
General Accountancy, Management, Law, Mathematics, English,
Economics, Ethics, Micro-economics, Administration, Commercial
Law, Marketing, Statistics, Macro-economics, Community
Development, Public Funding and Christian Philosophy.

LECTURERS
HEFSIBA has 10 full-time and 15 part-time well qualified lecturers.
Some of them continue their postgraduate studies at other
universities like Stellenbosch University and the North-West
University, both in South Africa.
Since 2013 some of our lecturers are also involved in various
short term courses like Mediation and Conflict Management and
Human Resources – all directed to equip the community.

The Theological Faculty of HEFSIBA is currently accredited by the
North-West University (Potchefstroom campus) in South Africa
(NWU) and some of the lecturers of this faculty are accredited
lecturers.

The faculty of Psychology is also in the process of agreeing on a
Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute for Christian

HEFSIBA works closely with Stellenbosch University and other

(SADEC countries) and PROFORTE (Mozambique). HEFSIBA is
considered a model of excellence for other institutions of higher
education in sub-Saharan Africa. Workshops by lecturers of
HEFSIBA are regularly given in Curriculum Development and
Administration in countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi,
Namibia, Angola and Kenya.
The Biblical Institute in Portugal (IBP) decided to ask HEFSIBA
to be the central hub for their Master's Theology Degree in
Mozambique. The decision was taken inter alia because of the fact
that HEFSIBA is currently the only institute where Theology is
recognised by the State of Mozambique on this high level.
