Global Climate Change: basic concepts, mitigation and adaptation technogies
and policies, local and international actions. Projects.
To explain basic concepts in climate science; to discuss the impacts of climate
change on the planet and civilization; to discuss current and future efforts toward
mitigation and adaptation of the effects of climate change; and to discuss issues
of government and policymaking in response to climate change.
Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of our times. All
professionals must have the basic background on climate change. Those
certainly will be differentiated in market.
Graduate and undergraduate students with at least intermidiate english.
Earth’s Climate: The Basics, controls, anthropogenic effects, mitigation and
adaptation technologies and policies, climate change and civilization, the politics
of climate change. Foundations of projects (building teams, decision making,
planning).
Lectures, conferences and talks; Reviews and team work; Projects.
Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges o four times; it is an
actual and quite important issue to professions and professionals; participants
will have an overall knowledge of the most actual information of climate change;
international professors that are working or doing research on climate change.
Team working in practical project. English review.

Luiz José Maria Irias, Ph.D.: Dr. Irias was born in Brazil and grew up and studied in
the state of Minas Gerais. He earned Bachelors (1967) and Masters (1970) degrees
from the Federal University of Viçosa, Minas Gerais, respectively, in Agronomy and
Agricultural Economics. As undergraduate student he completed, in the USA,
participation in a technical cooperation program in the field of “Agricultural
Production” for the period of June – August 1966 (USAID/DOS). Dr. Irias spent a few
years working as agricultural economist with Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) in Rio
de Janeiro and in 1971 he moved to Brasília to work at Ministry of Agriculture and
later on (1974) he was admitted at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation
(Embrapa). Dr. Irias spent most of his time working as researcher in agricultural and
environmental economics at Embrapa headquarter in Brasília and Embrapa
Environmental Unit in Jaguariúna, São Paulo State, from where he retired in March
2008. At Embrapa he completed his Ph.D. degree (1981) in Food and Resource
Economics from University of Florida in Gainesville, Fl, his post-doctoral work at
Scientific Policy Research Unit, University of Sussex, England (1997) and he
participated in important research works at the International Food Policy Research
Institute (IFPRI), Yale University and Cooperative Program for the Agri-food and
Agroindustrial Technological Development of the Southern Cone (PROCISUR). Dr.
Irias research areas has being on agricultural economics, research and development
assessment, agricultural research impacts, impacts methodology, environmental
management systems. More recently he participated in the project “Incorporation of
the climate change to the strategies of rural development” with Yale University and
PROCISUR. Undergraduate Coordinator of Environmental Engineering Course at the
Faculty of Jaguariúna (FAJ), São Paulo State from 2006 to 2009. At FAJ he teaches
economics and environmental management. Since 2010 he is FAJ representative in
the Global Partners in Education Program and BR professor in Global Climate Change
Course. Dr. Irias is teaching economics of agricultural energy to Getúlio Vargas
Foundation (FGV) Professional Master and to Management Business Administration
Programs in Agricultural Energy (2008 and 2009).
