Present: Mr DJ Jessett (Chairman), Mesdames E M Anfield, H Fitsell, Johnston, and W J Turner. and Messrs F H Graham, J Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames James, and Jessett, Mr & Mrs Pickering, Messrs Freemantle,and Pickett, and Cllr Vernon-Jackson. 1. The Minutes of the meeting held on 24 March 1999 (copies circulated with the agenda) were agreed as a true record and signed by the Chairman. 2. Committee Appointments: The Hon Secretary reported that no volunteers had come forward for the posts of Hon Secretary (Bagnols-sur-ceze), Hon Publicity Officer, Hon Correspondent Kiskunfeleghaza. 3. Correspondence: The Chairman reported a Fax from Bagnols-sur-Ceze that there would be no representative at the forthcoming Town Mayor making. 4. Finance: Mr Johnston reported on the Current and Deposit Accounts' balances (copy filed with these Minutes). The Income included subscriptions, Social events, and Bank Interest. Expenditure related mainly to Social events. There were balancing items relating to the Oberlichtenau visitors. 5. Membership: In the absence of Mrs Jessett, the Chairman reported that the subscriptions of 15 members were still outstanding. Several new members had joined and 3 others were expected. (a) (i) (ii) (b) (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) (vi) (c) Braunfels: Mrs Anfield reported with regard to Visit to Braunfels - weekend of 6-10 May 1999: She had collected pictures from Michael Block, but did not know where the exhibition would be. All attending would have beds. British German Association - receipt of Journal indicating various events in London. Bagnols-sur-Ceze: Mr Johnston reported with regard to Schools Exchange - no change. Fresco for the FAX>leJules Ferry - the Newbury Schools had not had a reply to their Fax, so he had sent another. Silk exhibition at the end of May 1999 - in addition to the Whitchurch Mill exhibit, he would get a video of the making of the Newbury Coat, and some Spinners' and Weavers' materials. He would also get information from the Museum Curator about the making of the latest ('..-oat. The Chairman would take all these to Bagnols-sur-ceze. Don Juan in the Second Millennium - No further progress. Tourist Infomlation Bureau Exchange - the Newbury Bureau was unwilling to receive anyone this year. Mme Ferrier had resigned as Newbury Secretary and had been replaced by Mme Ghislaine Bernardet. Kiskunfeleghaza: The Chairman reported a letter received, and that he had sent a list of names of those wishing to attend the Reunion. Phil Barnett had sent the names of some footballers. Mrs Anfield reported that she was still investigating Air Travel options. 7. Youth for Europe: Miss Fitsell reported that she had received the programme for the event at Feltre in August 1999. Possibly 11 young people would be going, and some had already booked flights. The cost of the event would be £105 per head, and the matter was going smoothly. 8. Oberlichtenau: In the absence of Mr Pickering, the Chaimlan reported that the visit had turned out most enjoyably. RESOLVED that a vote of thanks be accorded to Mr and Mrs Pickering for all their hard work. 10. Internet: The Chairman reported that he had been investigating 3 local management systems. That operated by the Town Centre Manager appeared to be the best and the cheapest. He would pursue. 11. Date of next meeting: Thursday 27 May 1999.
