A Good Friend
m
I believe that a good friend is a present. To find casual friends is very easy, but a really good friend is
difficult to find. A good friend is nice, helpful, and is interested in your life.
A good friend is not only interested in having fun with you, but also stays with you when you are
unhappy. People who have a few good friends are very lucky. They should never let them go, even
after a fight.
o
For me, my sisters are my best friends. Even though we are different in many ways, we respect each
other’s differences. We love each other. In fact, it is more interesting when your good friends have
different hobbies and interests than you. That way, you have more to share with each other.

Why are animals in danger?
A
m
A million years ago there were a lot more species of animals than there are now. Of course,
some species disappear naturally, but today they are disappearing faster than before.
Animals are in danger from natural accidents; some animals die because of small changes
in the weather. But animals are also in danger from our behaviour. Sometimes we take animals
from their natural home to a different country. Pollution of our land, seas, rivers and sky is bad. We
are making our world a dirty place, so many animals can not live in it. Pollution is bad for all of us
and it is killing animals. Sooner or later it is going to kill people too.
So we are taking the natural homes of animals very fast.
Where can they go? …and the animals die.
REWRITE: “Why are animals in danger?”
o
d. PROJECT WORK - ANIMALS IN DANGER
AJUDA = HELP: Procure informações sobre um animal em perigo de extinção. Use as perguntas abaixo.
What is it called?
Where does it live?
How many were there before?
How many are there now?
Why is the animal in danger?
How can people protect it?
2. How bad is it?
ra
st
1. Find information about an animal in danger in your country and write about it.
TRANSLATE INTO PORTUGUESE.
Hunting, pollution and disappearing natural homelands; all of these are dangers to animals.
People in rich countries want to buy more and more interesting things.
Animals in danger are more interesting because there are not many of them.
Hunters can kill elephants, rhinoceros and other animals for money, so they can get rich.

SOMEONE YOU ADMIRE.
EXAMPLE: MIKE
m
I admire a lot of people, but the person that I admire most is my good friend Mike who is
over 80 years old. Mike is a scientist. Now, he is retired for many years and he still loves to read
and write about his field. Mike is very bright and sharp. He has the mind of a thirty-year-old.
The reason I admire Mike is that he has a very successful life. He is always interested in
learning new things; he is never moody, and is a very happy person.
Mike has a good career and he has a loving wife and children who respect him very much. I
want to be like him when I am that age!
