This year’s dokumentART opens with the film “The Voice of Peace” by Eric
Friedler. This is the story of the legendary pirate radio station that from 1973
until 1993 called for reconciliation between Arabs and Israelis. The station
based on board a ship “somewhere in the Mediterranean” broadcast a
combination of pop music and peace messages. Abie Nathan, the man behind
the station, received support for his work from many big musical names of the
time: John Lennon, George Harrison, Gloria Gaynor and Joan Baez. An inspiring
film about an inspiring man.
Eröffnet wird die dokumentART in diesem Jahr mit „The Voice of Peace“ von Eric
Friedler. Ein Film über den legendären Piratensender, der sich von 1973 bis
1993 für die Versöhnung von Arabern und Israelis einsetzte. Gesendet wurde
vom Irgendwo aus dem Mittelmeer; dabei wurden moderne Popmusik und
Friedensbotschaften miteinander verbunden. Abie Nathan, der Mann hinter
dem Sender, wurde in seiner Arbeit von den Musikgrößen seiner Zeit, darunter
John Lennon, George Harrison, Gloria Gaynor und Joan Baez unterstützt. Ein
inspirierender Film über einen inspirierenden Mann.

EUROPÄISCHER WETTBEWERB

39 filmmakers from 19 different countries are taking part in the competition
for this year’s five dokumentART awards. The competition blocks have been
grouped according to their subject matter. At the end of each block the audience
can join in a discussion with the filmmakers.
After the war a housing estate grew up on the site of the concentration camp
in Ebensee. During ceremonies commemorating the victims the noise of lawn
mowers was heard from gardens.
Nach dem Krieg entstand auf dem KZ-Gelände in Ebensee eine Siedlung. Bei den
Gedenkfeierlichkeiten sind Rasenmäher aus den Gärten zu hören.
39 Filmemacher aus 19 unterschiedlichen Ländern konkurrieren im Wettbewerb
um die fünf Preise der diesjährigen dokumentART. Die Wettbewerbsblöcke
wurden thematisch zusammengestellt. Nach jedem Filmblock finden Gespräche
mit den Filmemachern statt, wo auch das Publikum sich beteiligen kann.

in Neubrandenburg. Award winning films will be screened. Afterwards we will
celebrate together at the Latücht venue.
Zum Abschluss der 23. dokumentART findet die feierliche Preisverleihung in
Neubrandenburg statt. Preisgekrönte Filme werden vorgeführt und anschließend
bei einer Party im Latücht gefeiert.
“EASTERN BLOC” | „OSTBLOCK“
Geographically the Eastern Block has long since ceased to exist, but the many
documentary film schools of Central and Eastern Europe are still clearly visible
in all their variety. We are devoting two blocks to Eastern European subjects and
filmmakers. Feel-good films with a dose of black humour can be seen in the block
“Life Lessons”. Life in the Russian provinces is the central theme of the block
“Homo Sovieticus”.
Geografisch gibt es den Ostblock schon längst nicht mehr, doch die verschiedenen
Dokumentarfilmschulen Mittel- und Osteuropas sind in der ganzen Vielfalt
des Europäischen Films noch deutlich erkennbar. Zwei Blöcke widmen wir
Osteuropäischen Themen und Filmemachern. „Feel Good“- Filme mit einer
Portion schwarzem Humor gibt es im Block „Lebensweisheiten“. Das Leben in der
russischen Provinz steht im Block „Homo Sovieticus“ im Mittelpunkt.

special event Silvio Witt leads the way through the nighttime town, to concerts
and short films in unexpected places en route.
